Incredible build. I definitely think this would have worked better split up into multiple videos. I'm not sure how many shot-attention-span YT viewers will watch a 1hr30 video in one chunk (the length of many films) - I know I skipped forward quite a bit! Not to take away from this achievement, I'm in awe!

I just use a disc sander, recycled a 40 years old motor for that. Less resources for making the whole thing, higher torque and it has a bigger area than drum sanders.

If you’re metal parts end up oversize for press fit you can anodise them if they’re aluminium or nickel plate them if they’re steel. I once had a very big argument before and then after with a subcontractor who didn’t allow for the thickness off the nickel plating in a very large project. “It’s only 2 microns” they said, which becomes 4 microns on a hole, 8 when the mating part is also plated and 80 microns when the subcontractor the subcontractor used uses electro nickel plating instead of the electroless nickel plating specified on the drawings. 😀 electro nickel plating and even anodising are quite easy to do at home.

This is one of amazing videos on YT, what I have seen looong time. It was surprisingly long, but not stupidly any means. I think chinese could make almost same machine in 1/5 price and build some metal (Chinese steel, you could bend 20mm (x) rod that is under 1 meter (y) long, by hands) So I would buy this own build set for sure beside than "made in ass" by slave's tears. It's shame that if you want to build these and sell in EU, forget it. Too much required CE stuff.. (means nothing, but everyone understands what I mean, if living in our system is daily business) But build in own use, nothing stopping that. And it's made so advanced, that would cost so much, than worse products will drive it over. It's funny how import stuff could be so bad and building machine in many countries is impossible (because business is much less expensive in developing country, like china). Anyway, now china is certainly going down and known big companies leaving that country (they have got enough by bad working culture and even worse authorities), so we could be in cross section where better quality products and not that bad price will be standard. Many times CCP products need to fix before use and change some parts (like screw's, bearings, sockets, switches, blades, even motor, etc..) and that was way to go, because "low price" was so huge "advance".. In the end, you got bad product to your use, with many times prices, because putting bad parts in bad product leaves nowhere. Some chainsaw or circles would be "ready to recycle" after first tool was getting need to change. Just throw whole sh17 away and raise new one on the table.. Some "not so smart" businessman buy containers of stuff from that country what I have talked in this message and some use and price those "hardwares" and "tools" needed.. Biggest business was made by our country (because taxes) and those hardwares must sell in some price, even lower than originally or other way was "scrap all".. So, I think those were good time's to learn some needed facts about living and working with tool's you must buy and use to make money.. Now we come in the part of that video was made for.. "When you know what you need, how it should work and what's good price of it, build your own, because today it's easier than never before.." There's no way to build every hammer and screwdriver or drill by yourself, but some more expensive "special needed" machines and systems should put together and build by own methods, if it's best way to go.. Looks like this guy knew what he was making and building. (There's so MUCH of YT advertising, so it looks like people are watching this video a lot) 🤯

This is an amazing build and as a mechanic and electrician by trade i greatly appreciate the engineering that went into making everything accessible for maintenance and repairs. Would you ever consider releasing the plans and models for sale... I know it is a one off for you due to the expense and time involved but i would love to have one in my shop (as I am sure others would as well) and for something that far outperforms other sanders out there in the way of functionality i would love to be able to get the plans and drawings/models so i can start working on one of my own... Maybe something for patreons? Just a thought... Again thank you so much for the work and dedication it took to make this and share it with all of us.

Hmm, now that you have gone through all your debugging of this what you call a one-off machine, I wonder if you actually _could_ do some market research, and if there's enough of a market for it, then take down a recipe of the machine and send that whole thing off to a mfr. in China or something like that and get an estimated cost-reduction plan and get some preorders on the Kickstarter. If I were you I wouldn't give up so soon on ideas about how to make a cost-effective version of this mass-produced. Keep thinking about it!
