- Building a wardrobe for my apartment was on my ToDo list for over one year. I finally got around to do it. I had a few special ideas and building techniques for it that I showed in this video.

makes it look so easy. the level of perfection is so satisfying to watch. by now i bet he outclasses 95% of professionals :D
exactly the opposite, he makes it look impossible.
not only the project itself, he also nailed the presentation, choosen shots, montage, voiceover, camera angels, lighting, duration, effects and jokes.
I think thats because he IS a professional. From the accent i am pretty sure he is German and I guess he has a "Meister" in woodworking. My sister makes the same education and it needs 3 years to get a Woodworker and another 2 to be a Woodworking Meister. Inreally hope my sister will be as professional as he is because I also loove the videos and projects he makes.
That is a good insight in how complex a seemingly easy furniture project can get, if you want to do it properly. I liked the conclusion about saving money. But I would add, that the main reason to build own furniture is not saving money. It is more about aspects like having a unique situation where nothing from the store fits or having a special design in mind. Then it always pays off, just because no cabinet maker will build that for an acceptable price.

The things you learn from such project also generate a certain value and might translate into money later in life. Not to underestimate - depending on what you make out of it
Choosing to TIG stainleas for your first welds ever is really jumping in the deep end! You sid far better work than I could have done with that much experience.

Your welds don't look bad for your first attempt. Give it time and believe me it will get much better, especially if you have the opportunity to practice in your spare time. A TIG welder was a dream of mine for a long time, then I bought it, practiced a lot at home and now I'm at the point where I passed an official TIG welder exam.
Yeah honestly pretty decent for a first attempt- having tried many different welding methods id say tig has a higher barrier to entry but once you nail the basics like how much stick out, dabbing and how to grind your tungsten it gets easier. Note if your tungsten keeps sticking it means you are too cold on your amps, try turning it up a bit more. Also want to note that when you grind a tungsten like Marius did on a bench grinder you should use the whole wheel whilst also turning the tungsten as it ensures you get a more consistent tungsten and you dont get a wear line in the wheel
If this is rly your first time weld, then yeah. it looks rly more then okay! For me it looks like you used to much heat or heated up too much of an area/were too slow. Maybe your feeding material is too big of a diameter ? there is smaller ones that makes more finer "drops" .
Just keep practicing, once you get the hang of it it will just kinda go by itself. I love TIG welding
This project was great because it's not just about saving money or time, enjoying watching the artist's own art from the effort he has and will have to make the device he wants is the most important, that is, watching the effort to make life better.
2 things: TIG welding is probably the hardest welding process to learn especially for someone who’s never welded before, so that’s incredibly brave to immediately start on the project with such little practice. Second, grinders and paint will make you the welder you ain’t.
Small tip for doing 90° chamfers on the drill press: since you get a 1mm radius increase for every 1mm you drill down with a 90° bit, you can use the depth scale on the drill press to know how deep you have to go (just remember to multiply the depth by 2 for a diameter instead of radius). Example: Want to make a Ø17.3 chamfer on a Ø8.4 thru-hole? (17.3-8.4)/2 = 4.45. So when you drilled the Ø8.4mm just touch it using the chamfer drill without it running, zero the depth scale and then drill 4.45mm down to get a Ø17.3mm wide 90° chamfer.
It´s not that important on flat stock since you can see and measure, but for inside holes/chamfers and hard to reach places it´s quite useful.

O my goodness- I never saw a pencil sharpened using a drill to spin it in the sharpener ! In my opinion the best thing I’ve seen in ages 😂. Can’t wait to try it

Good luck with saving money on that 🙂. But you can always get better quality, custom furniture according to your measurements and most of all the feeling of satisfaction and pride whenever you look at it 😉
as this is built to last more then a few years somebody at least will get some savings from it at some point, so long as its a thing you find a need for. Personally I like the clean lines and the workmanship and thought process is spot on.

Wow, great wardrobe! But may you could discuss the taste in shoes of your room mate! When saving on furniture you could spent more on quality shoes :-) I guess my best tip for welding is: practice, practice, practice... And for sure someday you'll build yourself a fireballs welding table to reach superbe accuracy.

When you make it yourself you can customize, getting everything just the way you want it, plus all the fun and satisfaction. Considering the outrageous price for materials these days, DIY may or may not save you any money. Sometimes, it is not about the money, sometimes you get an idea and it just nags at you until you do it.

Also an amateur with little more than a compound miter saw, a bandsaw and a drill press, seing your work is so inspiring! Even if I have to cheat on the joinery, lol.

Markus, you built a better quality wardrobe than what you could have bought. Your design with the shoe rack , a drawer and hooks, saved you money. If the wardrobe online had include these items, it would have costed you more.

Marius, your welds look fine. To improve your welds, the only solution is practice and did I say practice. Welding is a craft that only improves with with practice.

For rigid fixings in to walls, look in to HILTI anchors (HUS4 most popular), they have also shear and pull out strength limit tables and they do not need any plastic pins before anchor fixing in to wall hole

Your initial welds are pretty good. Practice is the only thing that will improve on that, so just keep practicing. Love your videos.
Looks really nice. My motto has always been, why buy it when you can build it for twice the price. Nothing like bespoke furniture.
All your welding needs is more practice. For stainless you might want to go to a larger gas lens cup and keep the cup over the weld with some post flow while the joint cools to keep the discoloration to a minimum.
4:46 I had a similar idea when I build my shoe rack - I also press-fit the pipes into some holes I drilled.
Amazing work and i loving new tricks to getting things done. As far as the stainless tig welding, heat and argon control is crucial. Too hot or not enough argon and you will get oxidation. And the backside of stainless steel that isn't shielded will get sugaring. For the amount of argon flow, i use 2x the cfm of whatever cup size i'm using.
