My apartment was in big need of some storage improvements for food and similar. I have a tiny room that was pure chaos and an apothecary cabinet that never was built to its full potential. I fixed both problems in this video and hope you can get some ideas from it.

"and me for some reason?" You are the most precise woodworker that I've EVER seen! Not to mention that you have an intricate understanding of the materials that you use and how best to use them. You don't over engineer anything that doesn't need it! And that makes you not only a good engineer, but one of the best woodworkers in my opinion.

Awesome video. I live in Texas, so it's always interesting for me to see homes in Europe again. I lived in Europe for 2 years, in both France and Belgium, and it was always a surprise for me to see someone's kitchen, and how well it needed to be designed to work well with the limited space most homes have. Where as many kitchens here need little thought to the design aspect as you just have so much more room. Since it's not very expensive in comparison to just have your kitchen space be 2-3 times the size of a European one, it's fairly common to see massive kitchens with 4x8ft islands in the middle with cabinets all around and big walk in pantries.
We are remodeling our house right now and will have double islands, so I'm a bit sad that there's litterly no need to design or purchase thoughtful Space saving designs that are often creative and fun to use.
I'll probably add in a few, but they are mostly for the want, and not the need.

Tip from a carpentry student, when cutting dovetail joints, cut them about a half millimeter deeper. The leftover wood you can sand away after glue up. We are getting this thought in German carpentry school, because it helps close up tiny gaps and makes glue up easier.

Richtig.

I love the pull out pantry, I have been wanting to convert my walk in pantry into a few pull out cabinets. Walk ins are such wasted space. I had the original wood pantorouter but lost it in a hurricane. Great tool, they have really done a nice job with the metal version. Nice to see the dowel trick used to allow solid cross grain in a fastener joint. I use that all the time.

I'm kinda not sure about the position of the hooks. All the weight of the box is only held by the small bit of wood above the hooks, which might break off if you store too heavy things in it? Maybe screwing them in at an angle could be an option "for the next time" :)

Funny seeing this video now. I happened to want such a cabinet with such a pullout mechanism half a year ago. It took me a long time to figure out where to get the mechanics without having to buy the whole cabinet for way more than 2000€ from the manufacturer of the kitchen. Turns out there's an excellent company called Kesseböhmer making them in a very high end version with different shelve options (I paid 480€ for mine), their frame is also hight adjustable -- unlike yours it seems. So I went the other way around, picked the maximum size I could fit in the available kitchen space, bought the mechanism and built the cabinet around it to fit snuggly.
Funny enough it seems that you have chosen then very same glass containers with sealing wood lids and labels than me, only that I have a lot more of them. 😅
I guess if I you had produced and I had seen this video earlier it would have saved me a ton of research time since I didn't even know what options to build such a cabinet were available when I started. Maybe I'll still make my own shelves because yours look way cooler than mine and I could probably use 1 or two levels more than the 5 I have at the moment. 👍🙇‍♂

My pantorouter is older than your's. I bought it before there was any distribution network, so I had to order it direct from Kuldeep Singh in Japan. Kuldeep, with help from his very young daughter, packed up and shipped the box of parts. It came with no instructions of any sort. To sort alignment issues I corresponded directly with Kuldeep. And of course it didn't come with niceties like dust collection and a tilting table, and had only the most basic templates.

And I'm sure you are careful around it but your table saw should be the next thing you look at, stick up things that remind you to focus when using them, I've heard it plenty from loads of people, but you only need to be wrong once, If anything will get you it'll be one of them tables, and you work alone. If something happens how will you raise the alarm. Just think about it. Have a plan.

What's the max weight those pantry drawers can take, considering you only have a 1/4" or so perimeter glue joint holding the plywood to the sides (and thus supporting all the weight)? I'd worry about that as a point of failure, with no mechanical joint/reinforcement. Seems like this is why a lot of drawer bottoms are done with a rabbet that's not flush with the bottom surface of the drawer.

Had to go back 3-4 times to understand the point of the groove at 11:40… would that be the fix for the first tray not fitting on first try?

The groove is there to clear the hooks of the metal frame as you slide the box down

@@MariusHornberger Yes… it's just that you mention the groove once over that shot, and then not anymore. We see it clearing the hooks but it's really quick and you don't explicitly call attention to it so it's easy to miss. At the end of the video I was like "wait, didn't he promise an explanation about something earlier?"😅

Great work! That machine is an investment but I can easily see how it could pay for itself.
