- A long-term review of the HAMMER K3 Basic sliding table saw after six years of private use. In addition to that, I made a few upgrades to the saw that add a lot of conveniences and should be standard. I wish I had made all of them years ago.

On a more serious note, it's easier to see what this one is. The saw blade was much too small for a youtube thumbnail.
It'll be exciting to see how internal gears like that fits into your future projects...
12 51/127th of an inch, yeah even us non-metric users don't use those fractions, My goodness! For reference that's just slightly smaller than 25/64ths which I still don't measure things that small in my wood shop, too small for me to see

I got the K3 winner a while ago. My girlfriend was watching your conclusion very carefully if it's a piece of crap. When you said you wouldn't get it again, her eyes narrowed. And then you said the winner was better, and I was relieved. Thank you. :D

Though in my defense, it's usually just a similarly functioning tool, like a random orbit sander vs belt sander or knife grinder vs woodworking large belt sander. You know, completely different and you just need them all, naturally.
Hello Marius, I remember when you bought that Felder table saw, and visited the factory, if I'm not mistaken, and helped the Felder designers re-engineer that 'flip-stop' mod..which was rolled out to existing customers, and used in later factory customer builds on your machine type. It seems not very long ago, ha ha. Clearly the Felder machines are first class, as your saw still looks very new. I am very jealous of your lovely table saw..sadly, where I live, the import duties would probably double the cost of a similar machine sent to where I live. I manage with a much lesser table saw...with a lot of mods, but will never approach the precision of a decent factory built tool. Keep up the videos, you are one of the best engineer CZcamsrs, and we appreciate your no-nonsense, and very human style of videos..we all make (many!) mistakes which we learn from when doing woodworking, and I love that you include some mistakes on your builds. Many thanks for all the hard work that goes into quality videos that you make.
I like that anytime you are annoyed with something, you think about how magnets could solve the problem.
You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice czcams.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.
The table saw was impressive enough but that sled was next level. Great work!
Utterly brilliant cross cut "sled" design, and I love the end cap idea -> I have an aluminum fence on a cross-cut sled that's going to be mod'd that way tomorrow!

Which is why we see so many true craftsman these days.
The English expresion: "Don't fix it - if it's not broken". Love the sliding table on that table saw - I wished American made saws came standard with them (they don't. I have a Delta Contractor Table saw as well as an older high end Powermatic 66 table saw.")
Glad to see your progress through all these years. It's very inspiring for me as I'm finaly starting woodworking as an aprentice. I wish I would have a workshop like you with all theses good improvements for me to mâle all sorts of thing.

I just love your ideas. Double clamp joint mechanism - cool, with magnets - supercool. But placing that support piece just a bit sorter than size of sliding table? Thats bloody brilliant!

Great video, and thank you for the look inside the K3. I wanted the K3 Winner for my shop, but the delivery time was too long. Instead, I bought the Minimax SC2 Classic for about the same price as the Classic from a distributor in Mannheim. The delivery time was one week and the cost included the scoring blade option, delivery, assembly, and commissioning.
Your ability to recognize an opportunity and develop a working solution never ceases to amaze me! Your solution for the extension table is wonderful, and I hope Felder is watching and paying attention as it did with your flip stop design. The extension table for the SC2C is similar to your design which makes installing and moving it simple and easy (Einfach ist immer besser 😄) . I attached an Incra LS25 positioner to an extension table to create a point in space for ripping with the slider instead of the fence. I haven't used the fence since.
The LS25 positioner for ripping sounds pretty good. I assume you have a bit more space available than me

Hi Marius, I enjoy your videos and tips to improve the K3 you have. I have a 30 years old B3 winner, the one with spildle moulder. The great thing about you tips are they apply to my machine as well. Thank you for sharing.
The two lugs on the Arbour are for the braking. I worked for a company that bought a new saw, and then couldn't use any of their existing blades because they didn't have the twin holes.
Excellent review, Marius. Your original video on your Hammer was the primary reason why I ended up purchasing one. I went with a 2m B3 Winner, but almost immediately wished I'd gone with a 2.5m slider.

Because of your first video on K3 my brother and I got the K3 Winner. But we were quite unfortunate - there are 2 videos on my channel.
Finally we upgraded to Felder K700 6 months ago (Felder helped us with the budget a bit) and we couldn't be happier now.

On the fence: I'm not sure how you would incorporate it into your saw but I just bought a Dewalt contractor saw that has both a locking lever and a fine adjustment wheel and I really like being able to fine tune the setting. Another thing that would be cool is if you were able to add a way to slide a paper strip on top of or next to your ruler so you could have set points for repeated parts.

We have had the K3 Winner before replacement with Felder K700 (shorter than S, but the same saw).
Felder K700 is completely another level of quality and user experience, but it is quite more expensive. You'll be very pleased, I'm sure. Best regards from Croatia 😊

I have the K3 winner and have been using it for 5 years. I agree with everything you pointed out. The Winner fence system is great. I'm going to use your upgrade for the cross cut fence 90 deg. angle stop. That is the weak point of the saw.

The way you did that zero-clearance end cap was smart. I've been hesitant to drill into my fence. I should just get over that. That end cap is super useful, and the one Felder sells in their shop is stupid expensive, but easily made.

I made that on mine and drilled into fence (alas, hesitant). Once is done, you'll be glad you did that. Well spent time, and using the saw will be a new so much nicer experience. Cheers

That’s a beautiful saw. I have a high-end saw stop, which I think is OK. It doesn’t have the same level of Attachments but it’s a lot cheaper. I do find myself wishing I had a sliding table now and then

I used a 16mm dia aluminum rod for the slot in the slider. you can tighten it snug from inside the slot towards the top.
The endcap zero clearance was mind-blowing. It's so silly easy. Its so brilliant. Im making one for my felder asap

I too recently bought a B3 winner based on your reviews. Will implement the end cap first.
You can contact your local Felder rep and order the upgraded fence and führungschiene separately as replacement parts, although I imagine it’s expensive. I have the B3 basic and I’m considering upgrading a number of pieces on it but overall I love the saw. I’ll be trying out your upgrades for the crosscut fence, thanks!

Nice saw setup. Am I the only person who is amazed that these companies continue to place wonky plastic depth/tilt handles on their tools in place of a decent metal set? My vintage 1969 Craftsman has the best handles, solid cast aluminum, even today... 50 years on... solid as a rock.

This is a great video. Good engineering and presentation. I have just received a Hammer C3 31 and getting to grips with it. Officially the machine does not support cutting slots with a saw blade but I'm sure everyone does it. With a 300mm blade the riving knife/splitter can drop below the top of blade and with the guard removed you can cut a groove. But the splitter can not drop below the top of a 250mm blade. Does everyone file out the slot in the splitter to fix this?
Glad to see you making videos again. I love the upgrade to the sliding table handle, and I very much wish to do the same thing to mine. I would love to see a video on how to do that, and I think thousands of K3/C3/B3 owners would immediately follow in your footsteps....

Sieht im inneren haargenau aus wie unsere alte Felder in der Firma. Unglaublich Robust gebaut, wir sägen seit Jahren damit Aluplatten bis 40mm, ich glaub Holz hat unsere noch nie gesehen :D
Motor könnte bei uns gerne doppelt so stark sein.
Unkaputtbar, so wie es sein sollte. 40mm Alu ist schon ne Hausnummer, da kann ich mich vorstellen, dass 6kw oder mehr nicht schaden würden

Marius, thank you for another great video. Believe it or not, when I was looking for my table saw and came across your first video on CZcams. I never heard of Hammer but after watching your video I ordered a K3 Winner. It would be great when you make modifications to your Hammer if you would source the nuts, bolts and hardware. I was space limited when I bought my Hammer but I wish I had added the outrigger table - maybe I'll add it later.

I can tell you had fun doing these mods :). I was doing bits and bobs like this to my homemade tablesaw before I went back to university this summer!

That is actually the perfect home of the wrench. For a blade change you always have to move the sliding table back and then you have access to the wrench.

@@MariusHornberger that is possible only on the slider on Hammer saws. I have Felder K700 now and it can't fit there unfortunately. But they made a magnet holder for those on Felder machines.

For much cheaper levers I have used quick release levers from bicycle seats and wheels. You can get those on aliexpress for a few tens of cents (or for free from old bikes on the scrap yard). Sure they might not be as heavy duty, but they still work well.

Hello and thank you for this video. I was happy to find the other two videos on the adjustment system on the other hand I can’t find flip stop, the Fence Knob and the foldable handle on Felder’s website.
I think they discontinued the flip stop and the foldable handle is not from Felder. I just bought one that fit
@@MariusHornberger hey, could you make a short video about that? I've seen plenty of comments on your video about the new felder flip stop saying their new saw came with the old version. I think it would be really appreciated by people looking to buy the same saw, so they won't be surprised or disappointed when they get it.
That fence adjust does look annoying. The adjustment on the Felder-brand saws is much nicer, especially if you get the microadjustment add-on. You may be able to buy the fence + rail and, with some drilling, retrofit it. Their current K2 Winner comes with a Felder-style rip fence with the round rail instead of the version you have.

Regarding that end stop. If you had drilled an undersized hole and cut a slot through it, when you screwed in the insert it would have opened up the slot wedging the insert in place.
“Why did I wait?” All I’ve ever thought of for an answer is that the inconvenience (pain?) just wasn’t enough to prod me into action. 12”+ blade capacity is a great feature. And I love the convenient wrench storage under the sliding table. Thanks for the video. Question: are the two pin holes standard on saw blades (I assume yes, else locked into one source.).
No, they're not. But that's something you look out for when buying blades
You can put a wing nut for the riving knife so it is faster to move or change.

Hey Marius, great video I actually bought a k3 winner about 2 years ago based on your original k3 basic video. I got the upgraded rip fence with heavy duty bar though (which I think was really worth it), and insisted they throw in the upgraded positive 90 degree stop that you helped develop for the crosscut fence (given the amount the saw cost I thought that was reasonable. Originally they were trying to get me to pay extra for it). On the sliding table did you ever look into fritz and franz sliding table jigs? they are very versatile and can do many handy things with a euro sliding saw like this!
For the fence; would it be possible to drill a small hole in the side of the cam lock, insert a small spring and ball bearing, then drill a detent in the aluminum housing to hold the lever in the middle position?

Nice video. I like your end cap and think I will also build it. I have installed the pre-saw (Vorritzer) by myself. I received the parts from Felder, but the instructions and some of the parts don’t fit as the machine construction has changed. So be aware when you also want to do it. As I have the K3 Winner, I would rather recommend the B3 Winner. A bit more expensive, but far more opportunities with the router.

@@MariusHornberger No, while the B3 is a K3 with a second motor in the housing, the C3 just has attached an Axx on the housing. So the B3 is really saving space (and money) the C3 is not. If you look for a all in one machine, you need to look at a Felder CF7xx. These models have a better all-in integration, but different price cat. So for a serious wood worker, that builds furnitures or things around the house ( like garden hut, car port etc. ) the B3 is the better selection than the K3.Next level would be KF700.

A quick and easy fix for that rip fence handle would be a weak flat spring (or pair of flat springs) that will center the handle when it isn't locked. Not strong enough to kick it out of lock, but just hold it when it is loose.

It looks like the wooden support you attached to the bottom of the fence will collide with the extension table. Do you find that to be a problem?
Really like your video's! Have you ever heard of the decimal Inch? At any rate find the equally divisible positive integers in an inch, a Foot, a Yard and even a mile, then compare those to a the same parameters in a meter and a Kilometer. What is the value of equal spacing? Why is EU cabinet shelf spacing 32MM? Ah, the power of the equally divisible Imperial system. However, I use a 9.4mm drill for 0-3/8 inch or 0.375 wooden dowels Use both based on the project.

actually not, because for a blade change you need to move the table all the way back. So perfect location to store the tools for a blade change

Cool Video! I need a sliding table saw.
The beveling stops should never need adjusting, but sometimes dust will interfere with their use. That throws off your angle, so you always need to check after moving.
I also don't trust them and use a bevel box for angles
