Starry adds 3 dB
Sundrop adds 6db but too late in the day for caffeine.
I don't think you'll have much luck hitting repeaters in Jackson from Grant Village because there are a bunch of mountains in the way. Even if the repeater was located on Grand Teton it would still be hidden by mountains. I've occasionally had limited luck with getting a cell signal near the shower house at Grant. SMS might be more reliable
Got it. Thank you for the info! I think someone in our party will have starlink so we possibly might have a path that way to the outside world but all depends on tree cover. Thanks for watching!
What’s the software showing spots lower left of your screen?
Node red
48:30 K2A "That's a tongue twister!" Kyle "No it's not" Had me laughing.
People either love or hate my callsign.
How many barefoot watts is the flex radio?
100
The hunt looks easier on the flex system to me great video on working the 13
@jamesknotts1546 searching and pounce on the flex is super easy.
Drat.. missed the live...
If it makes you feel better I did too, and I wasn’t even doing anything 😢
Neither was I! Lol
@@AA0ZI’m almost inspired to give all 13 a try this afternoon
Howdy
I have been working 13 colonies with a KX2 on a short random wire. So far I have half of the contacts.
Awesome!
I needed something to prove sufficient dedication to radio hobby to justify getting an HF radio. Learning what's necessary to get a license really doesn't take a whole lot of dedication but learning CW did.
Kyle! That spot on Gooseneck was spectacular. It inspired my lazy butt to pick up the keyboard and give a comment, lol. Nice video. See you out there. 73 de Bill
Kyle, when I went through Yellowstone in the mid 80's, we stayed in a campground in Gardiner, which is the Northwest entrance to the park. NM5BB
Black Canyon! My second Home town of Hotchkiss CO is nearby. I lived and worked in the area for years. Great Fly fishing on the Gunnison.
Very helpful, many thanks 73
I really enjoy Mike's channel - sorry I missed the Live!
It's awesome
I appreciate all the nice comments and shout-outs in the chat. Thanks everyone! That was fun!
Thanks for all the stories!
@@AA0Z My pleasure! And no naughty bison this time!
Dam it! I missed the live stream.I always look forward to making to making dumb ass comments in the chat.
I had some internet issues at the house here, so there are some studders in the stream. Just hit the "J" key on your keyboard to fast forward though the drop outs. They are only 15 or 20 second drop outs.
Great adventures, nice work, tnx Man.
Wish I had the talent to have a business like that. I just hope there are enough cw ops moving forward to keep a business going
Very nicely done. Thanks for the information.
1985 had to do a 12 wpm send and receive exam to get a Class A licence to operate HF in UK. I read a lot about the brave men and women of SOE operating Morse code behind enemy lines I feel the history needs to be preserved. 73 Phil G0BVD
The Skill involved, The History, Nostolgia, To keep it alive.
The Arlan stuff is truly top notch. Sound superb. Extremely comfortable. EXCEPTIONAL passive noise isolation. Great TX audio.
Great topic and video. I started as no code Tech but I went on to pass all the Morse Code tests.
I practice CW but I forgot to practice how to send CW on a keyboard. For FD. In the end, I guess I just send with a key - prefer a Bug. Not a fan of keyboards - sorry. No fun for me.
How do FD clubs run 10 transceivers within the 1000ft radius without walking on others. We have a quadplexer and bandpass filters and still have bleed-over on different bands.
Typically they don't but there are a few ways. One, you get a pair of radios on the same band that have good rejection. Usually contest grade radios. One person runs while the other search and pounces in between CQ's of the running station. Sub filters also help if one person want to run on 20 on SSB the other wants to run CW. This is usually done with Yagi's pointed the same direction so they are not firing into each other and the CQ'ers are at opposite sides of the band.
Red on right and facing down. I stealing that 👍
Right on red but you should read the A right side up.
I learned CW because I don't have a voice for radio nor a face for SSTV!
Lol
Wow core memory unlocked.😅 Did I really learn some Morse code in cub scouts? 🤯 My wife is a Gold Award Girl Scout and she did too. 😂
I'm learning CW now to do more QRP SOTA/POTA while I'm out climbing mountains & lightweight backpacking. I always carry an FM handheld.
Still learning CW,I work on the railway and work in customer service so I talk for a living so I don’t want to talk to anyone outside work, also CW is incredibly cool 😎
Thanks for watching!
Amazing how much stuff you can fit in that red bag! I didn't realize you are not a mast man. A mast is the only thing that struck me as "missing". Guessing that is a regional kind of thing. Always feel like I should have a mast as I may not have a tree.
I often do bring a mast but if I can throw a line in a tree, I'll do that first.
Just what I have been looking for! Order placed! 👍😀
My current POTA kit is an IC-7100, Powermini 2, Buddistick Pro and 12Ah Bioenno battery. It fits into an Apache 3800 case from Harbor Freight. All told the kit weighs roughly 25 pounds. This is also my AuxComm/ EmComm base radio setup for ARES, Field Day setup and when on home power and attached to an EFHW hanging in my neighbor's tree is my base station. It's better for operating close to a car or shelter than it is hiking deep into a park for quieter operation. I think I need dedicated base station and POTA radios. It's not an addiction, I can quit any time I want. Also, I have Rite In The Rain notebooks everywhere for logging if my computer is out of power.
Awesome
It's amazing how much you got in there! Is the throw line by Marlow? I have the Weaver throw line, weight and cube. But I've been eyeing the Marlow line, which looks to be thinner and lighter, for my 705 go-bag.
Yes the throw line is by Marlow. There is a link to what I use in the description
You don’t always bring a battery lol
There is always one in the truck
Wa6ols Wes here. Ontario, Calif.
I always enjoy seeing what kind of gear folks take with them to the field. I would sure rather have it with me and not need it than the other way round!
Yep
Field Notes. I still say they need a special POTA/SOTA/Ham Radio edition.
YES! I emailed them about a QSO book and got nothing back from them.
@@AA0Z I've hit them up on Twitter about making one too, nuthin.... I've been half tempted to print and bind my own to sell on Etsy...
What's the link to the arborist rope?
Added to the description. Sorry, I made that video so long along and uploaded it I forgot to add the links.
Two is one and one is none - that's why you bring two keys. Besides, they are small and gives you choices. I usually pack 3, and this past weekend I used all of them.
Yes. Good point. No matter how I pack, it's always a lot of stuff.
Didn't see the kitchen sink or a backup battery.
Backup battery is in the car. The kitchen sink I leave in my kitchen as I don't like to re-caulk it every time.
The Links Kyle, the links...You forgot the links!!! Side note: I haven't pota'd yet, but assembling my bag looks pretty similar to the amount of extra stuff. You never can tell if you might need something and like you, I want to be prepared. BTW "POTA'D" is a new entry to radio slang.
Done & updated.
@@AA0Z Thank you my ham friend!
You need to add a small first aid kit.
In the car.
I use the same battery & black bag for the -705. Great video.
It seems to work for all those small radios!
Great job 🎙 W1FYG # Teamreplay
Good show I enjoyed it
Thanks!
I got my novice license in January 1976. I didn't get on for a while. The only option for contacts was CW. CW or nothing. I had a lot of stage fright. My real problem was that I hadn't listened to CW much since the previous October when I passed the CW test. I got up in the middle of the night and got onto 80M and made my first contact. I couldn't copy the callsign of my first contact. I immersed myself in copying CW once again and went back to trying to make contacts. I did well and the rest is history. I'm glad there's no code requirement for licenses now, but I feel sorry for those who do not know code. They are missing out a lot in the hobby. It took me a few months of copying. We didn't do any stinking Farnsworth method. I want to do more CW. I've been off for way too long. Jerry N9XR
Thanks Jerry.
Great job! I'm taking a break from being on all day to eat and now watch someone else do the heavy lifting! It's great to see how other clubs do this great event! 73 KN6KNB
Awesome setup! I just gave away my like new 706mkiiG to a friend of mine that just got his license!
Zip it, quartermaster.
