    Well spoken. If its a channel I think it is were the young chap has quite succesfully designed and 3D printed a few models of his own who rants on about the cost of locos it infuriates me. He seems to have no concept of how a manufacturer works, R&D, planning, tooling, testing, let alone all the business costs such as staffing, buildings, cashflow etc. Some of his reviews have been helpful to me yes, but I am of the age wherein a fast forward through most of his banal comments.

      Hello Julian. Thank you for watching the video, and may i apologise for my late response. It's a funny old world isn't it, im all for reviews and information/ advice available on the good old interwebs, and there is a lot of great content out there from many people. I just dont see the point in belittling manufacturers in the extreme way that has been happening of late. Constructive criticism is good but out and out hate campaigns really get my goat 😂. Im sure there are things that I do that people dont like, and that's absolutely fine, I don't expect everyone to share my views and opinions. Its a fantastic hobby that brings so much relaxation and happiness to so many and long may it be that way. Thank you once again for watching the video. We really appreciate your time and support. All the very best. Martin

    I havent' listened to this video in full yet, and I did not catch the comments in question, but in the immortal words of a recently departed Irish modeller and fellow MERG member, "Rule 0: Its your railway"! Good video Martin. Yeah, there is a lot of negativity in CZcams and the wider world. You're right of course. People don't care what affect their negativity has on others today sadly. I get the odd Troll giving my videos a thumbs down and that really makes me wonder why this happens. When you're a content creator, you spend hours filming, photographing, creating each video sequence, editing, rechecking spelling etc, adding music, uploading and adding the final CZcams touches. For each video on CZcams. Then some Troll adds a thumbs down, in a second of negativity, after all that effort... Makes you wonder what actually makes them happy. I run mostly vintage Hornby Dublo, Tri-ang and early Hornby utilising the Tri-ang tooling and classic motors. I must admit that I think that the current Hornby is overpriced and lower quality than before they outsourced production to China, in the same way some of your other commenter's are. So I won't buy anything new from Hornby. Basically they have priced themselves out of my budget range. My vintage DC locos will be running long after the current electric motors Hornby uses have packed up. That's my gripe about them, but it's not aimed at the people who work there, more at the company's current marketing policy. Anyway. Sorry for the negative end, but it's worth clarifying things in a civil manner as you say. Your new additions look great. Thanks for th background history too. Happy modelling Mon

      Hello there! thank you so much for watching the video, I know what you mean about the thumbs down thing, we get a fair old share of those 😂 and like you say its a bit of a kick in the teeth especially after all the hard work putting the video together. We knew when we started making content for YT that there would be some people who really like what we do, and lots of others that really, really don't 😂 But I guess that's the joy of putting ourselves out there for the world to see. Its just a shame that people don't appreciate the effort that goes in to it. Ah so you run Tr-i-ang ! I have a whole load of Tri-ang bits and pieces all in boxes tucked away, track, and rolling stock etc. Its such a shame I'm running out of room in the shed, id like to get it all set up as a layout and actually use it rather than it just sitting in boxes etc. Again I totally understand what you are saying with the current pricing, everything is very expensive now. The only time I buy new locos at the moment is if they are heavily discounted in sales etc😂 The RRP's are a little bit keen for me sadly, but I do troll the second hand market with a keen eye. Thank you so much again for watching the video and taking the time to write your comment here. Your support is very much appreciated. All the very best to you Kind regards Martin

    Really good comments here: one has mentioned something that I'm really starting to wonder about: "wonder why ...they're in the hobby". What I wonder is what is their hobby? I'm starting to think that youtube is the hobby for some, the trains are means to an end, and just the subject matter. There seems to be more coming out, no layouts is the obvious, but you remember when layouts would take years, sometimes never done, quite often not even close, you'd change your mind, add ons etc. But how many channels now do you see where a layout is busy build build film film build. And then: spectacular announcement! New layout being built, new design, new scale etc. It's seemingly for an audience now, now personal enjoyment. Not all are like this of course, but I'm seeing it more and more. Same as some reviewers, who are keen on reviewing, sometimes rather negatively to the point of farcical, but they seem to display a lack of interest not only in the actual model, but most modellers have a "theme". Say British or European themed, maybe freight, or busy modern passenger, and these things have been replaced by a seemingly uncoordinated collection, with little reflection on a layout style. Even us old vintage guys who play with our toy trains have maybe a particular era of interest, or recreating an old style layout. But again, these all have a hobbyists theme. I've written an awful lot of words without really having said what I wanted to. Sorry! Oldest trains I have are a bit over 110 years old, however I still run them as a train on a layout. I may not have an interest in a lot of trains, but I'm not negative about them. By the way, the particular channel you've referenced has often displayed a lack of technical understanding of the particular product they're looking at. :) Great monologue: very listenable

      Hello there! Thank you so much! what a wonderful response to the video. I have read your message a few times over and I think have hit the proverbial nail squarely on the head in so many ways. CZcams is a funny thing, it can start as something quite meaningless and then before you know it, you can feel pressure to feed the monster you have created and if you are not careful, CZcams soon becomes the hobby, exactly as you have described. Coming into this hobby 2 years ago, what appealed more than anything, was the idea of slowly building a layout over years to come, It has taken me this amount of time to finally decide on a theme and positive idea of what I'm looking to eventually build. This is wonderfully relaxing hobby, and like a beautifully poured Ale, is best enjoyed a leisurely pace.😂 Did you say you have locos over 110 years old?....wow!!! Now that is impressive, something i'd love to see! Thank you so much again for watching the video and your wonderful reply. We wish you all the very best. kind regards Martin

      How much was that needed to survive vs just greedy management? I'd hate to see how expensive the toys would be now if they hadn't given the scale(lol) of operations at margate and costs of keeping the factory up to date at the time. Only very recently has the hobby picked up to a point and seen enough inward investment for the likes of dapol to really stretch their legs or for new entrants to really feel confident coming into the market. They were also a bit over a barrel in terms of competing with bachmann at the time. They have also seen huge investment into new tooling which all needs a design team behind it, investment into other brands since as well which has only expanded the remaining head office operations which will have put money back into the local economy back into more demand for goods and services locally which will have in the long run generated new jobs locally. Ideal, no, necessary evil, probably. Absolute dead loss for the town or region, long term perhaps not so bad. Did we gladly enjoy the years of dirty cheap models that resulted without much thought? Yup

On a serious note, ask manufacturers what they do to keep the lowest guy safe, the person assembling the models. The person we rarely if ever see mentioned on the factory floor overseas. Some manufacturers are very open and willing to talk about what they do to keep that guy safe and happy at work and not expoited, others just won't reply, won't even give a palm you off response. They just don't like the question being asked. Do have to wonder what conditions some of our trains may be assembled under given this very muddy pond(for the most part) of an industry we interact with

    • @dexecuter18
      @dexecuter18 Před měsícem

      If they share factories with the US. (In China there are model train factories that run on commission. Example. Atlas,Broadway Limited Imports, Fleishmann, Tomix share a factory.) They are usually paid pretty well since the employees effectively need to be excellent modellers themselves to do final assembly. Think the last quote I was given from an Atlas employee was equal to about $25-$30usd an hour. A big part of why models with more added detail parts balloon in cost since you need to pay somebody to sit down with tweezers and keen eye to install said details.

    • @HamStrains
      @HamStrains Před měsícem

      @@dexecuter18 yup, but the scary part is we are seeing highly detailed models coming out at relatively low prices in the UK these days and you gotta ask... where's that saving. Easy to attribute to a lack of greed or something silly but lets be honest, these are the companies that will blank any question about what they do to keep that worker safe.

      @dexecuter18 , @trainskitsetc , thank you both for watching the video and taking the time to comment on here! your time is very much appreciated! You both raise some excellent points! Looking back into the History of Hornby for example, the factory floor always looked like a decent place to be working, I guess a typical factory floor of that period in time in the UK. But you are absolutely right @trainskitsetc, it makes you wonder what its like in the modern factories abroad and we can only hope that the models we buy over here have been made buy people who are looked after financially and in the conditions of work. @Dexecuter18 Thats a great point that the employees would need to have fantastic modelling skills. Thank you both for your contributions here its certainly given me something to think about! All the best to you both. Martin

    That incident at the bike shop had a real effect on you, it’s clear to see. Sadly some people are so self obsessed they can’t see the bigger picture or anyone one else. In regard to the Model Railway negatively, it’s become a trend with a section that want to be ‘CZcams superstars’ I am amazed at the number of people who make a special effort to post negative comments regarding Hornby on their CZcams channel when they freely admit they don’t actually have their products. A lot of us who now model in TT:120 have been stunned at the comments that come from certain areas, completely unnecessary. This is a fantastic hobby with a space for everyone to enjoy the positive. It’s time the silent majority became the vocal positive majority and show the welcoming side of the hobby 😁 As a fellow cyclist I would say there is a level of ribbing but it’s not so nasty as railway modelling seems to have. Campagnolo is better and that’s that. 🤣

      Hello, firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and of course taking the time to write your comments. Its very much appreciated. 🙂 You are absolutely right, the whole covid period affected me so much, but that one incident has simply not gone away for many reasons. You mention the Anti TT1:20 brigade, again i'm in total agreement with you! I don't understand the negativity towards it at all. It is such an amazing scale, it looks fantastic and they run so nicely. I cant wait to get my track down properly to run it around the shed. Its so nice to watch something new like TT being developed, and seeing how keen the Hornby designers are learning as they go and happily discussing everything with us in their interviews and meetings on social media. Its fantastic! Hahaha... now then Campagnolo or Shimano.... 😂 that age old debate. 😂😂👍 In our little shop, we are more Shimano.....But when in comes to old steel framed road bikes, you cant beat a bit of older Campag blingyness. Thank you once again and we wish you all the very best. Regards Martin

    • @HighFell
      @HighFell Před měsícem

      @@shedmouthjunction less of the old steel bike 🤣. And that’s my point, as cyclists we can have a level of brand/opinion chat and it’s fine, usually because it’s answered on the road or over a coffee at the cafe stop, it’s sad some in the model railway hobby want to whip up negativity just to promote themselves without giving anything of value back. Look forward to your TT:120 adventures, High Fell has been very rewarding for me 😁

    Hi Martin. Another great video. I know exactly the CZcamsr you mean! I've actually unfollowed him and clicked on the do not suggest content from the channel button because it was just winding me up. I often wonder why people like that are in the hobby. I agree it can be very easy to get drawn into things and have a good old winge on social media. But definitely the way to go when you encounter a problem is to contact the manufacturer or person responsible and stay polite at all times. That way you usually get results.

    Agree about some people being negative, trying to disparage certain companies. Guess it's vanity, trying raise their own status but ultimately achieves little. All manufacturers I've dealt with (in this hobby) will always try to put things right for you if it goes wrong. After all, they are as keen on the hobby as we are and they like happy customers.

I belive in praise where praise is due, and you deserve praise, why? Because I believe you are doing more for modeling than most. I will let you into a little secret, I could not give 2 hoots what others think, if I'm happy with it, that is all that matters to me. You consistently nail these videos. No, you are not silly! Got that: not silly! I had a Hornby RF motor and noticed the spigots that formed the gear mounts wore 'oval'. Have you noticed this? Time did not allow to modify. It is just possible that they had assumed a 'worn configuration which can last for years and years. Hornby RFs are an interesting subject. As they say in journalism 'One X0-4 is worth a thousand Ringfields'. Just wondering?
