    Prototype is an interesting word. My next railroad is going to be purely fictional. So.... as I make the standards for the railroad, they will become the Prototype.
    Sound was great this time. Thanks to you and Evie for taking us on the marvelous journey as you railroad grows!! Rich

      Thank you Richard! Its our absolute pleasure to have you along for the ride my friend. Ah now then! I've never thought of that before regarding prototypes....😂 that is a great way to look at it. By creating something fictional, you are creating the prototype.... thats brilliant!

    Martin, As usual its great to hear your enthusiam.
    I hear all the pros and cons on the interweb about every aspect of this hobby.
    But in the end I went my own way and did what "I" wanted .
    The hobby became fun for me again and I love it.
    Looking forward to seeing how your new plans progress and Im Looking forward to seeing the video on the wibbly wobbly wagons. All the best, Ted.

It's been a very up and down festive season shall we say here at HQ, but having time away has really helped clear my mind and helped me decide where I want to take the hobby. Something about clouds having silver linings 😂. Im really, really looking forward to working on the projects and can't wait to get started. All the best for 2024 to you and the family Ted. My work-around of being 'prototypical' but also having so much variation in what I've built up is just "What if I had my own real heritage railway and I preserved a bunch of engines that weren't saved at the time?" And eventually they'll be joined by my own model of an Australian engine(one I actually volunteer with) which itself is broad gauge, and otherwise is only available(rather expensively) in HO scale but bugger it, I want to have all of that together mostly because it'll all look nice!

    • @shedmouthjunction
      @shedmouthjunction  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hello, thank you so much for watching our little video. What a fantastic way to approach your model railway, I like that a lot. Ah so you volunteer work on a real engine! thats awesome! I'd love to do some voluntary work on a heritage railway but ill have to convince my good lady to move house first, somewhere closer to a railway 😂😂😂

    it is your hobby to enjoy how you want , it would be boring as shit if we all did the same thing ,, i think there are some superb plans for your channel with plenty to enjoy ,, you are right about the scale of things , for me to build what i want in oo i need at least another 40 feet on top of the 15 i have , even in N gauge i'd need to use some compression , once i get the boards down i'll start playing with the track layout if it won't work i'm due a re think too but i will still be using the same scale and era as invested in so many items so it may well be an homage with the buildings i wanted to model etc with a different track layout

    I went with Lawrie Rose to the K&ESR on a scorching day in 2012(I think it was that year) and got to look in the cab of Holman F Stephens/Stevens(? Spelling?) A green austerity I think and got to see a smart brown tank engine called Charwelton. Some mad people in the next compartment kept opening the door on the wrong side of the carriage whenever we stopped for some reason. It was a beautiful line.
    Looking forward to seeing the multi scale stuff, I have layouts of different scales I'm building at the moment, and completely understand about trying to find time.
    I'm planning on doing the wobbly wobbly wagon challenge soon but again I've not had the time and my laptop just lost the function of its left clicker. Typical.
    If they did a Terrier in TT120 then that really would be something!

      @shedmouthjunction  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hello Alex !, so sorry for the late reply. Ah so you have been to the K&ESR, brilliant! its a lovely little railway full of character. We went in 2023 and before that around 1989 ish so a fair old gap in between visits 😂Shocking considering its only about 90 minutes away. So are you fairly local to me or the K&ESR just out of interest?
      Haha, yes indeed, time is always hard to find for our hobbies for sure, please feel free to have a go at the old wibbly wobbly wagon challenge, we would love to see what you come up with, but no pressure at all. Ahhhh now then, a TT120 Terrier! ah can you imagine how cool that would be!!!!!!
      Thank you so much for your time Alex, all the best. Martin

      @shedmouthjunction Hey Martin! Thanks for the reply! I Actually live in a village on the Atlantic coast of Ireland,but growing up I lived in a little strip of houses on the A140 called 'Brockford Street' but part of the village 'Wetheringsett-Cum-Brockford' where I moved to at the age of 4 and there was to my ever lasting gratitude the Mid Suffolk Light Railway Museum or as we call it 'The Middy' and through that, and my brothers sixth form college, I became friends with Lawrie, who helped me start my first model railway I had as an adult in ireland called Muddleston xD I lived in Wexford then on the East Coast, now I live in the far south west, as far south west in Europe probably as you can get from the Middy or the k&esr but I got a bargain hornby Middy station building for a tenner I plan to use as a station on a small part of my shelf layout in due course.

    Hey Martin👍 TT:120 & OO. I’m loving both. Sometimes less gives more and this scale will only grow in momentum despite the heckling. Glad it wasn’t produced on the cheap. Like building a layout, usually the extra investment pays off in the long run 🏃

  • @muir8009
    @muir8009 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Funny the negativity people place on tt120. One of the disappointing comments is there's a lack of range. Overlooking that in 1938 hornby dublo had initially 2 locomotives in 00. By 1954 they'd grown to a massive 4. And when you consider at that time the main 00 manufacturers hornby, trix, and triang had collectively around a dozen locomotives. And modellers made do. If that's what's available that's what we work with.
    Secondly, in the US it wasn't infrequent to run standard gauge (gauge II) and 0 gauge together. And as they're in the same tinplate style they don't look out of place together.
    And thirdly: my Uncle, a kiwi, got a flying scholarship with the RAF in 1938, for 1939. So he took the long boat journey from New Zealand to England, just in time for Adolfs European tour. He was in fighter command flying spitfires and hurricanes in the battle of Britain and the Mediterranean, finishing up in tempests and typhoons. He was demobbed as RAF group captain dso and bar, and married and settled in Sidmouth. My first UK journey I stayed with him there, and being a train enthusiast spent a nice time with Sidmouth Junction, and of course the old Sidmouth branch.
    My comment isn't really relevant to anything but it's nice to prattle on a bit, I have many pleasant memories of the Sidmouth area.
    P.s that icon of layout design, Cyril Freezer, penned quite a usable design of the Sidmouth, budleigh branch area, before closure it ran in like a big U.
    Keep up the great videos :)

    • @shedmouthjunction
      @shedmouthjunction  Před 6 měsíci

      Hello !!, Thank you soooo much for watching and your comments! I 1000000% agree with what you said. It does seem that as consumers we demand so much and we want everything yesterday instead of looking at things with a realistic view. At the end of the day, launching something like TT was never going to be a fast process and it will certainly be a while, years even, before we have an abundance of choice of locos and rolling stock to choose from. For me, half the fun is the anticipation of what's to come in the future! 😂
      Thank you so much for sharing your memories of Sidmouth Junction! I've heard and read so much about it, there is a fantastic documentary on CZcams funny enough which covers the branch line development and operation up to its closure that is really interesting.
      Thank you so much again for your time, I really appreciate it.
      Kind regards, Martin

      I think you are right there my good man, would have been a great idea to bring in some less 'delicate' models as it seems that so far they they need careful handing and the prices are very high. They could do with a 'Railroad' version in TT for sure. Hopefully, in time these things will come
