  • Yes folks as the title says.... It's game over for my little basic (very basic) shelf railway. I knew I was pushing my luck when I built it like I did and I've been lucky its lasted this long! But don't worry folks the replacement is already under way !

    Space, Time and a decent Economy; The three cornerstones of this hobby, and also mostly the reason I never got around to it. I have stuff in HO, trains and all. The rest, nah.
    Good luck on your new build. It's exciting and we're rooting for you all the way!!

      Hello ! Hope you are well. Yep those three essentials are the hardest to find thats for sure 😂😂 3 others that help too are, tea, biscuits and more tea. I find they are 100% needed at all times in all hobbies 😂😂

    Always got to worry about "temporary plans" as they have a tendency to turn into permanent fixtures as you said no time for the other thing but you sure enjoyed what you had on the "temporary" layout. I've personally experienced this with another hobby I used to have which was salt water aquariums. It was too easy to get something temporary which often was the permanent tank, it's just the details around the tank never came to fruition and while it worked it did look kind of halfassed. Either way, I'm in a boat now with my setup... I just don't have time to get it set up, and who knows I probably don't even have the skillset to do what I want, but I'll get there eventually and who knows may even start a channel too :)

      @shedmouthjunction  Před rokem

      Haha. Firstly, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment on the video. I know exactly what you mean with the aquarium scenarios 😂 i too have been in a similar position with my tropical setup. Had many little aquariums around the 'main' one but never really just focused on making 1 of them really nice 😂. That said, im now down to just the 1 😂. Now I've started rebuilding my shelf layout, I seem to have rekindled a spark for working with wood. It's a funny thing that im not overly brilliant at, but I really enjoy it. So much so that once this is built back up im keen to keep going and build the baseboards for the lower level... may have to sell something like a body part to pay for it mind you. 😂
      All the best if you do start making your own set up and indeed start a channel on CZcams! The more the merrier i always think. If ever you just wanted to make a start and share your progress, always feel free to pop over to our Facebook group page and pop some pictures or ideas on there. It's only a small group, but it's a very friendly bunch.
      Kind regards. Martin

    There`s an article by Chris Leigh in this month`s Model Rail about all the things that have gone wrong with his layouts. Still amazes me, after three attempts to get into, and two years in, this hobby how much there is to learn!
    I`m off on the 27th, be a pleasure to join the live stream.

      Haha.. its definitely a huge learning curve isn't it! But i have to say a very enjoyable one 😂 Even the set backs are simply a good excuse to crack on and spend more time doing what we love 😂. In some ways I'm really happy to be rebuilding mine, although its been a huge amount of fun, I've never liked how it looked with all the odd bits of wood. The Mk2 is already far more pleasing to the eye 😂
      Fantastic that you are off on the 27th, it will be an absolute pleasure to have you along! 😀 all the very best. Martin

    Rome wasn't built in a day as they say. Quite often or not better reincarnations of previous endeavours are greatly improved by rebuilding. Got 27th in my diary and looking forward to say hi. Good luck with the new layout whichever route you decide on. 👍

      Thank you Anthony. I was working hard on the 'rebuild' tonight whilst listening in on your live stream. 1 year into this hobby and im loving every bit, the successes, the failures, the learning and most of all, the people i am meeting along the way. Thank you once again for your continued support, i am so very grateful.
      All the best. Martin

    Yes interesting I think the way to go is a composite shelf. That is two thin layers of play wood 1 top 1 brim with plywood strip spacers between. Got one on test in our polytunnel it appears to be a success.

    • @shedmouthjunction
      @shedmouthjunction  Před rokem

      Ah ok... thats interesting. And a great way to test it in the polytunnel! Thats awesome! Thank you for your time to watch the video and your comment ! Very much appreciated.

    Thomas Edison was quoted as saying: "I didn't fail 1000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1000 steps.." keep on trudging, you'll get there, I believe in you and Evie!!

    Like the idea of a double scale job. End to end and simple inglenook style layouts can be great fun, but will you miss being able just to leave trains running? btw, the TT120 stuff is very nice.

    • @shedmouthjunction
      @shedmouthjunction  Před rokem +1

      Thanks Greg. I really REALLY like the look of TT120. I've been holding off for a while to allow potential teething issues pass before diving in, but it will be making an appearance in the shed for sure.

    Hi it’s a shame that parts of the boards have warped and you had to pull it all down. Though here’s a idea you could make a micro layout with the boards that are still good to tie you over as you build up the new layout. Best of luck an will look out for the live on the 27th

    • @shedmouthjunction
      @shedmouthjunction  Před rokem +1

      Thank you Ian, thats a great idea. Ive been out there tonight and im going to save all the boards that are good for little dioramas etc. I've managed to save some of the batten too which ill find a good use for no doubt. Thanks again for your time Ian. 👍

    Sorry but this does make me feel a bit better about myself 😂 take a look at my short and you will see that having used bits of polystyrene and then dodgey wood base ours has a few bumps and inclines which cause some trains to derail or stop dead 😂
    Good luck on the rebuild, ps. If you do rebuild maybe use that waterproof ply? Bit on the expensive side new but sure there will be offcuts online

    Hey mate, so, sat in my cabin today i suddenly realised i could if i pulled my finger out do a track around the top of the cabin... Be higher up than yours but it should go above the windows and doors... Youve inspired me, probably just for running a single line and a few junctions, so dont know if i would bother with scenics. So, lesson 1... Dont use osb board right ? Lol 😂
    Interested by how you wired your layout, if you happen to have time to walk through that side if things? I mean, you must have to use droppers around that distance? Will you be adding lighting and other scenics?
    Also, are you an RC car tinkerer ? Do you do much with that? Ive just rebuilt my old 90s radioshack buggy 🎉

    • @shedmouthjunction
      @shedmouthjunction  Před 11 měsíci

      Ah haaa thats a brilliant plan! Yes indeed, get above the door if possible 😂 thats a right old pain in the butt to get around. I've nearly nailed it but still got a little bit of tweaking to do.
      Yep, when it comes to the wood, ahhhh the dredder wood, amazingly the OSB wasn't too bad.. it was mainly the big planks of wood I'd used for the big, lower shelf and the batten od used for the straight bits. It ended up like spaghetti ! 😂😂
      Now then. Yes RC Cars.. Its been a HUGE passion of mine for many years growing up. It got more serious in 2007 when I went racing on and off road cars at various clubs and regional championships. Ive stopped racing these days just with family commitments and lack of time to drive halfway around the country at weekends to race meets etc. Trains are a far more sensible option 😂😂😂😂
