My great grandfather Sparks from Road, was a talented countryman and apparently could spot a rabbit hiding behind a tuffet of grass out in the countryside while on a walk and very accurately throw a special stick like club ( that I can't remember the proper name for) and kill it instantly. Bringing a rabbit home for dinner quite frequently. He liked to keep bee hives, grow loads of fruit and vegetables, I do wish I had known him, but it's great to hear the stories my mother tells of he's exploits. You don't get many real old fashioned country people like that anymore. I hope to inherit that club someday, does anyone know the name for such a stick?

Back in the day I used to enjoy Jack Hargreaves and imagined myself fishing for bass from a boat or fly fishing for trout. However, I realised that Hargreaves was completely indifferent to the reality of life for people living in towns and cities. He never acknowledged that access to the countryside is controlled and limited. Most private landowners don't want anything to do with the public unless it's in their financial interest.
