  • Although there are many deer in the New Forest they are generally very shy and you are lucky to see them when walking in the forest.

    That was a lovely film.
I've read the comments so now understand the reason for the Deer removal act, I suppose the era of wooden hulled ships was soon to come to an end. I do wonder what the forest would have looked like back then.
    Good luck from Spain!!

A lovely film Dave, thank you. Where i live in Herefordshire i have woods on my doorstep and walk my dogs. We see Menal Fallow, Muntjac and Roe, my dogs just sit when they spot the deer. I love to photograph them with a zoom lens, does my soul good.

Thank you Steve. We unfortunately have a mad Spaniel so he was kept on a lead for the walk yesterday.

Lovely creatures, we don't see many deer in my part of South Wales sadly.
When you hear conservationists say we have too many deer, and we probably do in terms of numbers and introduced species, they seem to be remarkably elusive, or maybe they just don't like the look of me. 😂👍

Lovely footage as ever. If you'd be so kind to indulge the anorak in me, may I enquire which camera/lens you use, and which tripod?

Thank you for your kind comments. The camera is my Canon R7 (I do also have an R6 but it is very heavy to carry around on walks so I bought also the R7 which I am loving) The lens is the Canon 18-150 that is designed for the R7. I also have the 100-400mm Canon lens for the R7. The tripod I use nearly all the time for travel and carrying around on walks is a Leoford Ranger JS-255CEX. The reason I love this tripod is it is carbon fibre and has a built in head leveller which I consider a must for any video shooting. I have a number of fluid heads for the tripod which I can use when the legs are altogether as a monopod. The one I like for lightness is the Siri head although the pan and tilt of this is not wonderful especially if I have my R6 on it so I also use a Gitzo GHF2W which is just perfect for both panning and tilting. As for the shots of the deer they were doing in a hurry as they did not stay around for long and I was just starting from the car park when I saw them. This meant the shots were handheld on the 150mm end of the lens. They turned out very shaky so as I edit with DaVinci I got it to stabilise them. If you would like to know more please let me know . All the best Dave

Wrong season I know but was Rudolph a red roe deer? Winter in Britain can give you a very shiny nose. Thanks Dave another amazing film.
