3 Trails in 1 Day at Roaring River SP. Great Trout River Too! 🐟 🥾 #hiking #ozarks
On April 27, 2023 I visited Roaring River State Park near Cassville MO. This is an awesome park with a trout hatchery, one of the deepest springs you will ever see, a great river, camping and multiple trails. I hiked the Fire Tower Trail, the River Trail and the Devil's Kitchen Trail. A total of around 5.5 Miles and some great scenery. I hope you enjoy!

On April 13 I hiked a little over 6 miles in the 1,534 acre Ruth and Paul Henning Conservation area in Branson MO. This is an awesome place with a little bit of adventure for about any level of hiker! I chose the rugged Wildlife Loop and it did not disappoint! It worked me hard but rewarded with some very pretty and serene moments! Come along and I hope you enjoy! mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/pla...

On April 13, 2024 I took on the tough and rugged Coy Bald Trail at the 12,413 acre Hercules Glade Wilderness near Branson MO. It was a nearly perfect day and the icing on the cake was a gorgeous flowing waterfall. Come along on my journey and enjoy the scenery with me! www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mtnf/recarea/?recid=21754 @OldGuyHikes on Facebook: profile.php?id=100095138116455 @OldGuy...

Apologies for how dark parts of this video are. I am still learning how to video and "exposure" settings were a little foreign to me at the time😂. I have improved since this video. In fairness it was a mostly overcast day and in the trees, but I could have increased the exposure setting.
That looked like fun, thanks for taking us along!
You are very welcome thanks for watching and commenting
Very nice video. I enjoyed watching it. Thanks for sharing. 👍1
Thank you!
"Yikes" is right! Just watching makes me itch.
Lots of itching that day!
How far in are the waterfalls? I have a women’s hiking group here in KC. Would you ever lead a group through here, say in the fall? Thanks!
Or next spring?
@@SylviaFolkers Hi Sylvia, thanks for watching and commenting! The total hike I did was right at 7.5 miles and the falls were at about mile 3, going clockwise on the loop, or left at the split. Email me at oldguyhikes68@gmail.com about your group. I am not a professional guide but maybe we can figure something out.
@@OldGuyHikes awesome and thank you so much! I will email you. We are pretty good at navigating but it would be great to go with someone who has already hiked the trail!
Something to keep you warm when you stop and dry when it rains, and extra socks and a warm hat.
Very nice video. Thanks for sharing. 👍5

Hey thanks for watching and subscribing! I subscribed back! I'll check out some of your videos a little later today!
Your video is a good overview of the trails at Gans Creek Wild Area. Thank you! Gans Creek has a loyal following of hikers & trail runners. As your video suggests, the area is just a couple of minutes south of Columbia, yet you feel like you are transported further south deeper in the Ozarks. We also enjoy volunteering with both Rock Bridge Memorial State Park & the COMO Trails Association in the area.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I had just discovered this area and was so excited to find such a great adventure!
_Cool and inspiring video._
Thank you!
Enjoyed your video...thanks! We walked the Hart Creek Trail several months ago and agree that it is a pleasant trail. We're glad to see a sign has been added for the spur to the viewpoint. There wasn't a sign when we walked and it will be helpful.
Hey thanks for watching and commenting! Happy hiking!
Good way to do a bit of the Katy trail without doing an out and back.
Yeah I thought so. I read on Facebook someone else did this so I can't claim to have thought of it, but was fun. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Looks like a fun hike.
It was thanks for watching and commenting!
Some good boulders, need some climbing shoes, pads and a Chalk bag my guy.
It honestly looks like a lot of fun but I don't think it's for me! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@OldGuyHikes I never thought I’d be into climbing either. Til I tried it. If you could hunt out stuff in the new Portland area by sugarloaf, I’d be much appreciative!
What an old guy. Lovely area. Deadly creek crossings...you're lucky to have made it out.
Haha. Thanks for caring that I lived! It was pretty fun. Thanks for watching and commenting!
What an old guy. This is another abused area that has been ruined...beautiful still.
I would agree that it gets a LOT of traffic and is showing it. Thanks for watching and commenting again!
What an old guy. It's iconic and so overused that the area has been ruined. I recommend getting as close to the edge as possible.
Very popular for sure. Thanks again!
What an old guy. Mt Judea is pronounced Mt Judy. That's a very unique and beautiful area, for sure. The clouds were cool. Right on dude.
Ah good to know. Thanks for the education I'll say it right next time. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@OldGuyHikes Thanks for creating and commenting reciprocally.
Gorgeous presentation my friend
Thanks so much!
I quite like the idea of thinking deeply surrounded by so much peace and quiet. I often do so while sitting on a bench overlooking the ocean. Your way offers good exercise, too. With thanks and best wishes from Cape Town, South Africa.
I love your method too...just not close enough to do it often. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the video! We just mentioned this park several days ago and can't remember ever visiting. Your comments encouraged us to add it to our list for hiking.
I'm glad I could help! Happy Hiking!
It's been a few years, but I've fished off that dam
Looks like a nice fishing lake!
One of my favorite areas to explore. I enjoyed this video because I have not been to these falls. I used to lead photo outings for the Imagemakers Photo club to this area. We would mostly be in Boxley Valley. We went to Lost Valley which has Eden Falls and is loaded with wildflowers. I got introduced to this area when attending photo workshops put on by Tim Ernst. He had a house on a bluff above the Buffalo River not far from Hawksbill Crag. He has a nice guidebook called Arkansas Waterfall Guide and I have visited many of the falls in his book.
I need to get that book. I have his OHT guidebook. He is so detailed. Thanks for watching again. Glad you enjoyed. As long as the creeks aren't much higher the falls are definitely worth the trek.
Awesome hike!
It really is!
Looks like a video with the new camera. Looks great! It has been a few years since I have been up there but it is fun to watch and listen to the birds. Molly is a great photographer.
Yes the hike was done with the DJI pocket 3. I'm still learning it. the gimbal is tricky. The car tour portion I used my phone so I could zoom in better. Yes she is great, her photos are awesome. Thanks for watching again!
If only that cave could talk! Looks like a great adventure!
Yeah I wonder what all peoples lived, hid, etc up there?!?
Humans on Earth.😢
.
Did that hike in the fall. The end was incredible! The hike back up was not so great😆
It's an awful lot of work but also an awful lot of reward.
What a beautiful scenery! Stunning work my friend!
Thank you, it's a stunning place! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Love the advice 👍
Thank you and thanks for watching!
I'm convinced
Ah you've fallen into my trap! Hahaha! JK, thanks for watching and commenting!
Nice video. I have never been to Big Bend. My favorite hikes/drives are in the San Juan Mountains around Silverton Colorado. I cannot wait for our annual trip coming up in July.
sounds like a blast, I'd love to check out that area some time. Have fun on your adventure, thanks for tuning in, watching and commenting!
I've been wanting to get out there to the Ozark Trail. I've done a little bit of the Ozark Highland Trail in Arkansas.
I've been wanting to get down to the OHT and Ouachita trails. So much good hiking in the Ozarks and nearby areas! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@OldGuyHikes Absolutely! New sub. I'll check out your other videos as I have time. Take care and stay safe! ✌️
Hi Randy. Nice video! I enjoyed watching and learning about this trail. I’ve never been to this area of the country so it’s nice learning about a new place. The water features were nice, but probably best after a nice rainfall. That tumble did quite a job on your hands. I just stumbled across your channel while searching for interesting hikes. I do lots of hiking and posting on CZcams myself. I looked through your channel, and I see you post lots of hikes and adventure videos. Right up my alley. I just followed your channel! It looks like I’m your 209th subscriber! Woohoo!!! I look forward to staying connected.
thanks for the sub! I returned the favor on your channel and I look forward to checking your videos out. Thanks for the nice comments. The ozarks are awesome, I have some more ozarks hikes coming out next week and then again later in the spring.
@@OldGuyHikes Cool. For all the hiking I've done, I haven't been to the ozarks yet. Its on my list of places to go for sure. I'll keep an eye out for your upcoming videos. Thanks for the sub! That was very kind.
Live 5 miles from Elephant rock
jealous, what a beautiful area!
Randy - I teach wilderness survival, hiking, camping and backpacking. - Rule 1, Never Hike Alone. 99% of all injured, lost or even permanently passed hikers over 100 years....Hiked Alone and unprepared. When I see hikers hiking alone, I ask them who their next of kin is and did they leave that detail with the rangers.
great advice, even though I do hike alone a lot, I always leave my plan with my wife, I check in with her regularly, and I carry a garmin in-reach, not as good as hiking with someone, but better than nothing. I wish I had regular hiking companions!
Also, not to be a killjoy, these “Indian Trail Trees” are not nearly old enough to have been manipulated by Indians. I’m a forester and these trees are shaped the way they are by natural occurrences such as wind and other trees falling on them.if you bore this tree you will find it’s not nearly as old as you think. Otherwise, a nice video.
Just what I've heard but I am wrong..a lot..thanks for the info.
And thanks for watching and the nice comments!
He mispronounced the name of Mina Sauk Falls.
What is the correct pronunciation? I'm always up for learning.
Wasting my time With you..
.
Another good video. We took a day trip over there from Eminence but spent too much time at Elephant Rocks and Johnson Shutins to get to see this trail.
It's nice but jsi and elephant rocks are better choices. This one needs some recent rains to get the falls flowing.
If i could be...
.
I wonder how far the trail goes.
The ozark trail is 430 miles. This section is 34 miles.
It appears that you did this video early enough that you didn't disrupt others that came to enjoy the park so Thank you for being considerate of others.
It was also a weekday. I try to avoid busier times whenever possible. Also I don't talk to the camera much when others are around. I try real hard to follow the principles of Leave No Trace which includes respect for others. Thanks for pointing this out!
The dirt/mountain biking trails there are quite nice.
Yes they are fun. Was a little muddy this day unfortunately.
