Raw session. Drums, needless to say, from the Nanobox and most of the samples on the Blackbox are from an RS7000 project. Both machines running into a MOTU M4 interface, which is hooked up straight to an iPhone 15 Pro. No post processing, not even normalised.

Nice workflow, I also own a blackbox but I’m little bit concerned how to move from one project to another without having to stop the Blackbox, how you would perform for live? I’m interested to know
The encoders don't show the cc value changes on the blackbox?
If you look at Yamahas lineup today, you’d never believe they built something like this.

I bought mine in 2001 & still use it today. So underrated but IMHO still better than anything Akai have released since. So much control with real knobs & buttons puts the RS7000 in a class of its own.
Try to get both my rm1x and rs7000s to work both aren’t booting. Replaced all the caps in the rs7000 still no boot.
I was just watching some of your Blackbox videos and found this one. Cool that you have a 707, as that and the Blackbox are my main 2 devices (have to include iPad, which I've used to sequence the 707). I'm excited to see what you create with the 707. In case you haven't tried it yet, I find that the multi-band compressor in the master FX can work really good to get a really punchy final product sound. I'll usually not throw it on until the end once the pieces are arranged, but it definitely adds some clarity and punch if you dial it in right.

@sonfx first time I've actually turned it on for more than 10 minutes this year. Just up to the clock shift of high hats... I'm going by ear on filters as didn't see you set any, so I'm assuming possibly default of the sound. But got the same version, mildly different sounds ;) See where to take it then.. Funny, you said project available at the end, It's ok, we had a create along session!

Hey, it would be very crude by itself. Together with a good sound source to sample from, and a more capable sequencer you could have a decent setup.
So much that you can do which you cannot on any modern groovebox!

Blackbox has effects, eq, resampling... Couldn't this be done without Bluebox?
It doesn’t have the good sounding fx and the versatile compressor of the Bluebox. It also doesn’t do eq per track without some tedious workarounds. So sure, you could do something similar but it will not sound nearly as good and take much longer to do.

There are a few of those module-based USB MIDI controllers out there, so it's hard to tell which one you are using, Can you let us viewers know, which one you are using and HOW you're using it? I have the Blackbox and am always looking for ways to utilize it better. I'm old and my eyesight sucks...and I'm a Gen X'r...so touch screens are not 2nd nature. Thank you in advance.

@@sonfx I agree. It’s really powerful. I compared the drum sounds with a tr8 and in my opinion are more punchy in the mc707. The synth sounds like 101 are pretty amazing to me aswell.

Excellent tutorial. I've recently acquired an Rm1x and most of this workflow still applies.
I'm glad it is helpful. I think the other tutorials on the channel have some overlap with your machine too. Enjoy the RM1x!
I don't know what your problem is, but I know that the AIRA line has the same crappy knobs that begin to oxidize and glitch after only a year or two of use (faders are good, but knobs are crap). At least System-1 and System-8 have this problem. The parameters jump chaotically, the parameter transitions are uneven. I have to turn and warm up the knobs on my System 1 for 15-20 minutes before they start working properly. It's horrible.
That's too bad! I hope, of course, the 707 doesn't suffer from anything like that. Unacceptable about your System 1. You'd expect that from a 25 year old unit but not that one. I've had a couple of MC-505s and one MC-909 in the studio - all faulty. The 707 has some aesthetic problems around a button under the display and one of the pads sometimes gives a double trigger. These are not grave issues but I made a decision to not buy second hand because I was fed up with malfunctioning second hand gear...well, couldn't fully escape it!
Ooh, nice one. Will be interesting to see how you find the workflow and capabilities of MC-707 in reference to RS7000, and what did 20 years of progress in tech give us.😃
So far it’s awesome. I’ve never had my hopes up for a modern RS but this one actually feels like a successor that is likely better than what Yamaha would do today! There’s a lot to learn because it is so deep but I think I’ll feel comfortable playing longer sets on this machine, unlike on the RS. I’ll see if I’ll manage to make some comparison videos. Cheers!
