I was just watching some of your Blackbox videos and found this one. Cool that you have a 707, as that and the Blackbox are my main 2 devices (have to include iPad, which I've used to sequence the 707). I'm excited to see what you create with the 707. In case you haven't tried it yet, I find that the multi-band compressor in the master FX can work really good to get a really punchy final product sound. I'll usually not throw it on until the end once the pieces are arranged, but it definitely adds some clarity and punch if you dial it in right.
Ooh, nice one. Will be interesting to see how you find the workflow and capabilities of MC-707 in reference to RS7000, and what did 20 years of progress in tech give us.😃
So far it’s awesome. I’ve never had my hopes up for a modern RS but this one actually feels like a successor that is likely better than what Yamaha would do today! There’s a lot to learn because it is so deep but I think I’ll feel comfortable playing longer sets on this machine, unlike on the RS. I’ll see if I’ll manage to make some comparison videos. Cheers!
Man, it is awesome. It goes ridiculously deep and I haven’t had this much fun with music gear since I got into the RS! Not all great, however: this particular unit came with some defects so I’m sending it back. It’s out of stock, currently, so it’ll take a few weeks before I’m settled but I can’t wait. This machine has the dna of the old MC line, which is exactly what I wanted.
@@sonfx that stinks about getting a bad one but glad you are being sorted out and glad you are enjoying it so much. As with any piece of gear like this' I think a lot of learning curve is about figuring out what it doesn't do well and leaning in to what it does do well. The 707 does a lot well, but I have to catch myself sometimes embracing it's superpowers and not trying o force it to be what it is not. It has it's flaws like anything- really good at sequencing quick ideas and amazing performance tricks up its sleeve that allow you to weave thru sonic territories with ease.( as i can see you've already latched on to) but it's not so good at deep sequence editing or meticulous song crafting like under a microscope style. you can do that stuff but other things are more suited for that and I really appreciate the immediacy of it's interface; how fun it is to jump around thru patterns and effects. Don't sleep on Scatter! - seems like a gimmick but it's a fantastic way to manipulate the grains of your sounds. Anyway, you already sounding goo! I've put in a decent amount of time on the thing, don't hesitate to send me a message with questions of you get stuck on something. cheers. p.s. highly recommend the youtube MC707 Boot Camp series.
Pair it with the Blackbox... the MC is a decent control surface for it, and the Blackbox's strengths are very complimentary. (The huge headroom on the Blackbox is a good match too.)
I got to do that! One of the things about the MC that really appeals to me, though, is the all-in-one aspect of it. I so much enjoy working on one groovebox. The musical fun and inspiration I have on this box has only ever been rivaled by sessions on the RS7000. That said, the Blackbox always seems to find its place in a setup. Cheers!
I don't know what your problem is, but I know that the AIRA line has the same crappy knobs that begin to oxidize and glitch after only a year or two of use (faders are good, but knobs are crap). At least System-1 and System-8 have this problem. The parameters jump chaotically, the parameter transitions are uneven. I have to turn and warm up the knobs on my System 1 for 15-20 minutes before they start working properly. It's horrible.
That's too bad! I hope, of course, the 707 doesn't suffer from anything like that. Unacceptable about your System 1. You'd expect that from a 25 year old unit but not that one. I've had a couple of MC-505s and one MC-909 in the studio - all faulty. The 707 has some aesthetic problems around a button under the display and one of the pads sometimes gives a double trigger. These are not grave issues but I made a decision to not buy second hand because I was fed up with malfunctioning second hand gear...well, couldn't fully escape it!
