Colorado Mallcrawlers
United States
Registrace 23. 09. 2019
An off-road and overland channel that wants to make the best 4x4 trail guides we can. We feature stock vehicles like Jeep Wrangler Rubicons and lightly modified non-traditional off-road vehicles like the Cherokee/Renegade Trailhawk, Volkswagen Touareg, Ford Ranger and Raptors, and many others. The host wheels a stock Jeep JL & TJ in Colorado/Utah and his stock Jeep Liberty is in Tennessee/East Coast.
This channel isn’t like the other channels so don’t expect hemis or massive builds. Reasonable builds I can afford off my paycheck, maybe. Still, we believe the driver matters here.
Trail Rides with us: To move away from announcing trail days on Facebook, we’ll be setting those up through our CZcams membership page. We also offer extra videos on membership, but these are raw and require less editing than trail guides. 100% of any funds made from CZcams go back into making better videos (cameras, courses, good editors). We have regular jobs here.

Imogene Pass teaches a lesson in preparedness | San Juan Trail Guide
Imogene Pass is an iconic San Juan off-road trail that takes you from Ouray to Telluride. Often compared with the legendary Black Bear Pass, Imogene has its own cult following of off-roaders and overlanders from all over the world. In this video, we’ll show you what it’s all about including shelf roads, water crossings, sketchy photo opportunities, and incredible Colorado scenery. This guide was completed with a stock Jeep Wrangler TJ, Nissan Xterra, a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JLU, and a Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk KL. This is definitely regarded as one of Colorado’s best trails, but is it beginner friendly? We’ll find out!

Honest opinion?coming to Colorado the week of the 26th in July and we’re planning on doing black bear.i have a stock trailhawk and what to know if it’s possible for me to do?
Habla mucho este tipo
Funny cause I’m an introvert. My edits have less of me, Drew’s have more of me and they perform better that way. Surprising to me too.
Be nice if you could just get a bit more flex. I suppose that’s the hard part with the IFS. I like the small size of these things.
For sure, some guys have done solid axle swaps on the KJ. The small size is what makes them great to wheel.
Absolutely True. No trails no sales 🤑
For sure!
sorry but the crystal mill has been inaccesable to hikers going down to it for years. theres a sign you walked right by that says private property absolutely no tresspassing. cool that you got in there but no need to beat around the bush - you were not supposed to be in there even a year ago
I purchased a pass in Crystal and was absolutely allowed down there. The rest of the crew didn’t and that’s why they didn’t join me. We were gonna film a pass purchasing segment. Anyway, they even gave me permission to film and put it in the video. The only thing I couldn’t do was fly the drone snd that’s why there is no drone video of it.
Great footage, and great trail info! Thanks for sharing. Hopefully on a future version, you can correct the title from Teluride to Telluride!
Thank you! Sorry for the typo. Both editors (Drew and I) work full time jobs and editing trail guides have a lot of parts to them. They’re not easy edits and that’s why we don’t produce videos regularly (even tho we are both always working on one). Still, sorry for the typo.
@3:16 Are you sure about that ~55 degree incline? That is seriously close to the estimated pitchover angle. Plus, the person standing there doesn't make it look like it is an angle well over 45 degrees. But beyond that, what an awesome video!
That was probably a typo… it was so long since I edited this. Actually I just looked at it. That’s the wall. I got that info from another resource. It’s steeper than it looks on video, but it probably has one spot where you are close to 55 somewhere on there or the resource I used was wrong. Thanks!
Thanks for the excellent review! I've been using Gaia for years but heard onX was gaining momentum so decided to give it a try. Within OnX, as soon as I saw the cluttered map and the lack of layers -and found out there are several versions of the app, where the Backcountry version had better maps than the offroad version- I dumped it and canceled my subscription. Your example showing the difference between how one offlines maps also shows a major weakness for OnX. Maybe it's gained popularity because they are sponsoring a few folks now, but it's not the better option from where I sit.
They’re gaining traction because they’re sponsoring us and paying us a lot to do so. I know this as they tried to recruit me… a CZcamsr with two videos showing OnX to be inferior to their competition. I am not always right, but I will not promote something I do not believe in.
Road didn’t look too bad, a little wet but nothing the rubicon couldn’t handle. I have a rubicon also and under those conditions I wouldn’t even put it in 4x4.
That’d be a mistake, but you do you.
2002 Jeep liberty sport 4x4. Just hit 276,000 miles today and still going strong. I beat the crap out of this thing so many times and it just keeps going. Best vehicle I've ever owned hands down.
Heck yeah man!
I worry about water crossings because on a modern vehicle just one elctrical connection getting water in it can brick the whole car. Doesnt happen often, but when it does its almost impossible to find the issue on the trail.
Absolutely, but many off road oriented vehicles have the electronics isolated to allow for high water fording. For instance my Jeep is warrantied for crossings up to 30in, but you can do things to increase the number (extend breathing tubes, protect vulnerable electronics, add a snorkel).
I just rode this from the bottom on my mountain bike, have been toying with the idea of driving it in my Armada or maybe F150. Love seeing others out there with "good enough" 4x4's playing around. Can I join sometime? I always thought it was a bit reckless to just go out there by myself with no help around. Edit: The reason it doesn't go down to Palmer Lake anymore is because the section of road that goes beside the two reservoirs is a high use hike/bike trail used by the local residents. There is a simple gate that keeps vehicles from going any farther, but you can bike or hike into town. I think they also want to keep outside traffic to a minimum to preserve the drinking water, you aren't allowed to swim in the lakes or even walk your dog on that section. Here are some rules from their website: Standing in/on, wading, swimming in the reservoir is prohibited! Fishing is permitted only from the bank of the upper (2nd) reservoir - ice fishing is not allowed on either. Dogs - or other pets - are prohibited near Town Reservoir.
That’s some good insight! I do take channel members out, these are filming trips so not a typical group trail day. A good group for meeting up with people is CO overland meetups on Facebook.
@@coloradomallcrawlers Thanks!
Is the trail head on Gold camp road on the Colorado Springs side of St.Peter’s Dome or the other side? If you come in on Old Stage It turns into Gold camp correct? Thank you so much for the great video Grace and Peace Peter
Yes, it’s on gold camp road. The turn is Waypoint 10 of TrailsOffroad’s guide of gold camp road. Have fun!
@@coloradomallcrawlers Thank you so much!!!
I've been a Gaia user for user a long time (started as a backpacking user), but the usability and features are crap so.. since I clearly still have to manually create all the routes found on Trails Offroad (upload to Gaia creates a track... which isn't useful at all... it should create a route) ... and the features inside Gaia make it a PITA to do this (system admin sucks, folders and saved stuff is a train wreck to understand and manage across iOS and website)... so I'm just going to stick to CalTopo and Trails Offroad. Really wanted to my Gaia and Trails Offroad combo to work, but... it's just too shitty.
Jeep need to bring back the 4.0 straight 6
Nice comparison
Thank you!
6:10 what is that little ball shaped knob thing coming out of the Grab Handle, near his face?
It’s a 20mm ball mounting system… lately I’ve been putting my radio mount there on group trips.
That Cherokee has no business on these trails
Who are you to say what belongs on the trail or not? That KL had no problems on the trail except this optional obstacle. A week later, my buddy got up in a stock grand cherokee trailhawk on all season tires.
Would you say these trails are are much easier / safer than Devil's punch bowl, Peal, etc. from your other video? I'll be watching that next! 🤘 Mostly concerned with rollover / off camber/ exposure... Thank! Amazing video! 👏❤
In terms of rollover potential, yes! Thank you!
10k for a TJ Rubicon ?
Yep, but most people don’t know how to find them. Almost bought another last week.
Buy a Nissan.
Not a bad idea… I’d like a new Xterra
what happens when you're on a shelf road and a group of people are coming the other direction?

Yeah, it’s still active and in the description of this video. Thank you! They truly are a great company/app… actually made by offroad enthusiasts.
On those rocks, you can air down enough so your tires do not slip. Spinning creates a lot of problems. Though, it looks like it was a manual so that didn’t help either.
Yep, manual
That looks so fun to go off-road in my jeep that location and the scenery looks fantastic another great video.

these are the Kenda Klever MT KR29's, right? They have several MT tire offerings.

Nah, I don’t.

You guys should take a jackery or something so that you can keep your cameras charged up.
We have them, but sometimes it becomes more about gear than the journey. I instead bring extra batteries.
Eugh. Black Bear is NOT that bad. Stop scaring people.
This video presents a realistic view of black bear… if it scared you, you are not ready for it. Unfortunately, too many inexperienced people get on it and make mistakes which has put it at risk of closure.
Outstanding video, you make the best trail videos.
Thank you!
a 10k tj rubicon is a steal of a price
Absolutely, but they’re coming down even more right now.
When do you suggest doing this for the river to be drivable like you had here?
Later in the season is your safest bet. Early season like now it is somewhat high but fun… last I heard, this part is open.
Got a TJ auto and put JK 44's with lockers under it. Only on 33's but it's a mountain goat!
Sounds like an awesome Jeep!
Your willingness to post the directions is quite gentlemanly, very rare
These trails all of ours… the only thing I ever ask is that my viewers take care of the trails/camp spots leaving them better than they were found.
@coloradomallcrawlers rode out with someone else's Gatorade bottle yesterday, seems Im always picking up others trash
Been meaning to attempt this with my Montero with a 2.5" lift and 32" all terrains. If that KL can do it I think I can, I have more ground clearance.
Have fun! It’s a great trail!
Not a fair comparison without front lockers on
Based on what I was testing there it didn’t matter… but you can repeat the test your way.
The rule is: If you stack rocks, you must also unstack them once you are through. Leave No Trace.
I don’t believe we stacked rocks.
@@coloradomallcrawlers 👍Just putting it there for your viewers.
Set up the TJ with the same size tires as the JL and swaybar disconnects. I expect it would match or beat the JL in all those traction and rock crawling challenges where the JL won this time.
I agree, but the purpose of this was stock vs stock.
Great video! Do you think a 4x4 Tacoma pulling and off road camper can do Imogene Pass?
Thanks! Yes, BUT Imogene can be crowded enough that I wouldn’t pull my camper on it.
That Trailhawk couldn't flex enough.
Yet, Trailhawks make up for it usually with traction. However, my Liberty doesn’t flex either, but I love wheeling it.
Did this from the Telluride side last year with @nazgul_renegade. When we got to the summit we had a rain cloud roll into us and we did the Ouray side in the rain/clouds back down.
That sounds like an adventure!
