    We did Poison Spider in 2018 in a stock JLU Rubicon. No problem and a load of fun.... I would like to get back out there and do it again as we now are on 37”s

    Very cool, we just did this trail today. You are spot on with this short. Nailed the key obstacles besides that cliff side that is an immediate switch back by the rollers. That had me at the edge of my seat going and coming back out.

      Thank you! That’s what I was hoping for… I’ll still do a full trail guide (probably 25 minutes for this one, maybe even more) of it showing everything and the full obstacles, but they take time as I make sure they are accurate.

    Love your full length videos. Not sure if this was supposed to provide much info…but if it could have shown the toughest spots with some info that would be more helpful. All I know from this is that it is a difficult trail.

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  Před 2 lety

      Interesting and thanks for the feedback! I tried to pack as much info into the video that I could while keeping it under 5 minutes. Altho I absolutely recommend using Funtreks books and Trailsoffroad, I’ve provided similar info to what they provide from my perspective. I thought about it from what’s the basic info an off-roader should need on a trail in video form. So we have basic info (trail difficulty ratings by credible sources, trail length, time to complete, max elevation, when to do it, etc), why I think you should do the trail, a look at all of the obstacles you will see and where they are, and my recommendations for doing the trail. What am I missing?
      There will be a trail guide of Poison Spider, but I’m working every 10 hours so editing a 20+ minute video takes forever with this schedule. It’s also going to allow me to film a lot more trails which is really tough to do with 10 hours off in between work shifts. I’ll have more editing time later in the year. My other solution is to just quit so I can spend more time wheeling now… but I like making videos for others so I’m trying stuff to see if this can be a more viable option. I do appreciate the feedback tho!

      Drew has a lightly built one, but no one with a stock one and I’d love to film that! My schedule is horrible right now tho. I spend more time in hotels and on trains then at home so coordinating with others is tough… even tho that what I want to do as my wheeling alone is boring. Thanks!

      @Drew.Hunter.Maker.Artist Před 2 lety +1

      My first gen Xterra in it's current state is probably Similar to a second gen pro4x when it comes to tire size and clearance. Main differences with the second gen will be the factory rear locker, longer wheel base and wider track width (so larger over all), similar approach and departure angle depending if you still have stock bumpers, and alot more power than mine. Always happy to see other Xterras out on the trails!

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! Not a job requirement but a lot of us will wear overalls as it’s a dirty job. I wear overalls when I’m out of clothes, it’s winter, or I when I have my sleeping clothes on underneath (and I don’t think I’m going to get sweaty). I was out of clothes here and for the one I filmed on Jenny Creek.

    Poison spyder wasn’t bad. Golden spike was the real deal. The golden crack was the worst obstacle there for me. Almost flopped my Jeep. Actually would have fell over but some cool guys from Tennessee literally caught me as I was going over. There is also a big waterfall that’s pretty hairy. Can’t remember if it was on golden spike or gold bar rim. Can you do it in a stock Jeep? Maybe. Would I? Heck no

      @@coloradomallcrawlers I’m sure you can do it. Especially with a helping hand. The day I did it I did it with a 2dr bronco I met at the trailhead. No idea what package but he did have lockers and a winch. The guys from TN helped us both. They stood on his rear bumper for one big drop off where the rear tires were coming up, a lot of assistance at golden crack, and he has to winch himself up the big waterfall. It did have a winch point in the rock. All wheelbase related stuff. Other things his did better than the 4 doors. Bent up his rear bumper but he didn’t care one bit. His little bronco kicked butt.

    Hey Dewey! Our group will be in Moab in October. I have a 4Runner with a 2” lift and 31” all terrains. Would you avoid Poison Spider with this setup?

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  Před 2 lety +1

      Sounds fun, but do you have full skids and rock rails? The 4Runner should have the capability for it if it’s a beefed up off-road version, but I think you’re going to bang up the underside pretty good on 31s. I probably wouldn’t do it and have a better time on dome plateau instead.

      Most are Colorado trails… next four are (currently being edited), but Matt has been patiently waiting for me to edit the full trail guide of Poison Spider so I thought I’d at least get a highlights version filmed. Plus, I thought it would be a good one to test the format of these with as they may reach a wider audience than say a little known trail. However, my hope is these short ones would be a great way to show off the less well known trails! Thanks for watching!
