Our Moab Trip ended in disaster!

  • This video shows our struggles in Moab and what its like to get off-road recovered including cost breakdown. The first half of video shows how we ended up with an off-road recovery and some useful intel for those visiting Moab. This wasn't the video I wanted to make, but saw value in creating one when the three trails of day 1 were unsuccessful. Unfortunately this was supposed to be a redemption story for both the Fearless Trailhawk and I. We cover Steel Bender Loop Route, Steel bender Flat pass route, La Sal pass, Hurrah Pass, and Chicken Corners.
    Channel Members have access to our filming schedule and I want you to be in the videos! The Black Bear crew gets additional easy to edit videos but offer more up to date info on trails (since guides take a while to put together). The Holy Cross crew gets more say in what videos get edited for the channel (video credits and early looks at Trail Guide edits). / @coloradomallcrawlers
    Chapters (apparently I can't do this when I schedule the video):
    First half is what led to the breakdown
    Second half is the off-road recovery for the perspective of those being recovered
    Hope to see ya at the premiere... I'm getting the Liberty from TN and bringing to CO later this week so that's something (I'm nervous about it making it across the US especially since I may hit some Off-road parks along the way).
    About Us:
    Colorado Mallcrawlers is a channel that aims to show incredible off-road trails and our adventures to get through them with stock or your not so typical off-road vehicles. I mean almost all the other overland youtubers are rocking a built Jeep gladiator which is awesome, but I want to do the same trails in my Mom's Jeep Liberty KJ or my stock Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. If that sounds like a fun watch, we'd love to have you as a subscriber!

    I worry about water crossings because on a modern vehicle just one elctrical connection getting water in it can brick the whole car. Doesnt happen often, but when it does its almost impossible to find the issue on the trail.

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  Před 20 dny +1

      Absolutely, but many off road oriented vehicles have the electronics isolated to allow for high water fording. For instance my Jeep is warrantied for crossings up to 30in, but you can do things to increase the number (extend breathing tubes, protect vulnerable electronics, add a snorkel).

    I'm new to this channel and hoping to see more videos like "Stock Renegade climbing...." because I got a group of friends who has stock vehicles (Honda Pilot, BMW X5, Rav4 Prime, Subaru Ascent, Telluride, Palisade, etc..) who won't even change to A/T tires but love to go beautiful places with their daily driven vehicles or if you want to call them "Colorado Mallcrawlers". Taking them on 4x4 trails and having scratches would ruin our fun.

      This one has a Compass Trailhawk in it, but it might be a scary one for a new off-roader. I’m flying out tomorrow to get my liberty and bring it to Colorado. It’s going to be main tow and trail vehicle as it’s less capable than the wrangler, but can still go most places it goes. Welcome!

      @lion runner welcome to the channel! Glad to have you and hope you enjoy finding the capabilities of your group.
      Specifically when it comes to tires I can't personally recommend Highway tires on anything past graded or washed out roads. In Colorado especially there's lots of rocks, tree stumps and branches that make tire punctures likely. AT and MT tires are better suited at the side wall for it than highway/all seasons. Snow tires on the other hand are actually pretty common in rally cars for cheaper alternatives with a good amount of tread.

      @LionRunner Před rokem +1

      @@Drew.Hunter.Maker.Artist Thank you Drew. Other than our 4WD members our AWD gang most of them have Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tires. Some are standard load and some got XL. Nothing more than that. Most of them got factory tires still. They fall in love exploring scenic places with hiking trips did and some of the pics I have taken on my runs. Trying to start with Switzerland trail level places and see how it goes.

      @@LionRunner one recommendation I do have and something we might be covering more of in the future are 14er trailheads. Many of them have 4x4 county roads that lead to them that aren't trails but they can be one step above graded roads and provide the opportunity for hiking and exploration with the scenic views as well.

      You’d be amazed at how many people tell me I don’t have a stock Jeep and that’s why I haven’t touched anything. It’s still as I drove it off the dealer’s lot. With the liberty coming to Colorado, I’ll be upgrading the armor on the JL and likely adding a snorkel and extending my breathers. Probably leaving the suspension alone, but if the Liberty can take over as my trail guide vehicle, id consider 35s… altho that’s after trying holy cross again with 33s (I think I can do it, but we struggled with the rain last year).

      @off-roadingexplained8417 Před rokem +1

      @@coloradomallcrawlers yeah I'm actually tempted to go back to the stock tire size on my Trailhawk because it's only buying me a half an inch right now because I upgraded the tires but I didn't want to do any cutting. It's probably not worth the extra drag on the system. I don't have 32s. I have the 265/65 I think Jason has the 265 70. Moots KL had the 265 70 and went down to 265 65. With tires that are pretty close in the same size... At the same tire pressure they actually make basically the same footprint... So literally... Based on some videos I've watched with some really smart people who actually did some very exhaustive experiments determined that if you have the 245 65 at 26 PSI or you have the 265/65 at 26 PSI It's basically the same footprint. The 2:45 will actually put down a longer footprint and the 265 will put down a wider footprint but the area is almost exactly the same .... I have wheel spacers now anyway: 0.75. I feel like it's better off with the 245s and small wheel spacers.
