- This is a tour of my DIY off-road camper home. It is something you can likely build yourself, except I needed help from my friends. Zach named in Project Mallhopper as the original name was Project Trailhopper and I think its fitting... but both names are still used as well as "The Camper." I've included chapters as I'm no Playing with Sticks (awesome channel that does camper walkarounds), but I tried my best to jam pack each section with Camper ideas as well as build photos so you can see the process. I absolutely love this camper!
Channel Members have access to our filming schedule and I want you to be in the videos! The Black Bear crew gets additional easy to edit videos but offer more up to date info on trails (since guides take a while to put together). The Holy Cross crew gets more say in what videos get edited for the channel (video credits and early looks at Trail Guide edits). / @coloradomallcrawlers

Colorado Mallcrawlers is a channel that aims to show incredible off-road trails and our adventures to get through them with stock or your not so typical off-road vehicles. I mean almost all the other overland youtubers are rocking a built Jeep gladiator which is awesome, but I want to do the same trails in my Mom's Jeep Liberty KJ or my stock Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. If that sounds like a fun watch, we'd love to have you as a subscriber!
Here's one of our Trails playlists:

Thank you To Drew from Playing with Sticks who let me use some clips in this video. You guys likely already know him, but if not, check out his channel. / @playingwithsticks
How to find Trails:
Seems a lot of People are relying on bad software to find trails. I have no affiliation with any company and I recommend TrailsOffroad and GAIA. Trailsoffroad is stepping up the game with follow mode and just way better writeups on Trails than their competitor who apparently has a massive advertising budget. GAIA has the best maps so if you just wanted good and actually useful map software to go exploring, get that. You can get private land data on GAIA for $28/year while their more well known competitor will charge you $99/year for the same data. I don't hate this "competitor," but I'm tired of every video I watch being ruined by ads for crappy map trying to be trail finding software (I'm still a premium member of this bad software)... these creators should know better. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
I’m proud of this camper and the work my buds did to make it awesome. Capability for me goes beyond simply off-road capability altho that’s a big part. Being an enclosed camper surrounded by a steel cage means I can camp in grizzly country as well as hopefully survive an off-road roll over. Surprisingly, the more I wheel the camper, the more I’m realizing the solid axle is helping keep my center of gravity low. I was not expecting that. The solid axle is also strong and simple so I don’t have to worry about it on the trail as much. Finally, it’s pulled by a 2 door Jeep (within its towing specs) and that means it can get further simply because of the capability of the tow vehicle. Now, I’m sure there’s other very capable campers out there and I’d love to see them, let’s wheel and camp!
Hey Guys, as far as the outside table goes. Why not use a canvas cover with the Logo for the Channel printed on the cover And snap buttons to fix it too the Table. You could remove it when the table is needed and use it to help promote the channel when traveling. Love the Channel keep up the great work.
That’s likely my plan! Thank you!
Zach's mods -- from Drab to FAB!
Most definitely!
Outstanding trailer build from the inside out! Lots to appreciate including the custom cage framing, the solar, diesel heater and that killer hitch! I have a custom converted 12x6.5 aluminum cargo trailer that I’ve camped out of two months at a time the last few summers. Yours has given me some ideas !
Glad to hear that!
That is very badass! Congratulations living your dream!
Thanks man!
All three men did an awesome job.
You have three amazing friends right there.
Looks awesome! Great job! Be cafeful with that Chins battery... it DOES NOT have a low-temp cutoff (hi-temp only), and lithiums should NOT be charged below 32°F or it will damage them. Have fun!
That is in my radar, I’m planning a battery warmer to keep it above freezing in the winter
It’s “finished,” but we’ll still be making adjustments. Zach keeps coming up with new ideas and I’m all for it!
I'm glad I could be of service, and can't wait to see more!
I've gotta plan a trip either back to Colorado/Utah, or you come up to the PNW for more offroad goodness
You got the ball rolling buddy! Yes, we definitely need to wheel again brother!
Dang! Zach has some very good ideas. I really like the bike latches for the cabinets and the table on the side of the camper. And the inside woodwork on the walls are amazing. And the two 4 gallon tanks of water that are easy to take out is awesome.
Yeah, he’s amazing! Thanks so much for being a part of the channel!
Great setup guys! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Awesome Video!! I was def looking forward to seeing this as I am in the process of designing mine. LOVED THIS!
Can’t wait to see yours! I really like this design especially for extended weekend to week long trips.
Looks great!
Thank you! Thanks for being at the live!
Love this. Love the deviation ish with trailer info. I may be minority but cool class 1-2 trails that are good for a small off-roadish capable camper for some great boondocking.
I agree!
Glad to see the evolution of the trailer and that you are out and living in it. Every modification is a compromise in some way. The fact that you can take nearly anywhere with your current Jeep seems to bring the biggest joy to you.
Absolutely! It’s taught me a lot and is still teaching me a lot about off-road camper usage.
Definitely jealous and makes me want to get started on mine!
Get’r done! Lol
Zach knocked this build out of the park! He has some skills. One of these days I'm going wheeling with you all! Keep up the good work Dewie!
He sure did and that’d be awesome!
Great video once again. Really nice camper setup.
Thank you! I’m definitely enjoying the freedom it’s giving me.
🍻Cool story and camper.
Thank you!
What a great little camper! And it probably didn't cost as much as a new Jeep 😉
Thank you! It cost less than my recently purchased Jeep TJ 😉
Awesome!
Off grid......yes
Dewy, another great video in under the 20 min time frame.
Don’t worry about the table it’s functional and easy to find another to replace it with should something go wrong with it. Awesome upgrades done to your live in camper.
One Q for you what is your answer for doing bathroom business and hygiene especially in the winter if you’re out for several days?
Thank you! I’m trying to figure it all out, but so far it hasn’t been an issue. When overlanding, outside camp toilet in the bushes. Disinfecting wipes when I need to pack up. While living in GJ, I use the gym and my work. In the winter, I’ll likely be at a KOA and will use the facilities there. However, I do plan on doing true snow camping and I’ll likely use a pop up tent or my awning room with a heater. We’ll see tho.
I’ve put time stamps in if you want to go right to the walkaround at 2:24. I believe how the camper got to this “finished” state is necessary for the walkaround as it was built in stages and I reference how it was built as I’m walking around… but I’m not a good CZcamsr so you can decide. Dustin’s build write up is linked in the description and thanks to Drew from playing with sticks for the clip usage. Hope to see y’all on the trails this summer! -Dewie
Dewey, love the trailer. You're one of the few who actually takes their "off road teardrop" offroad and not to a state park. What's your thoughts on the straight axle vs axle-less (Timbren, etc). Also, I assume an articulating hitch is an absolute requirement?
Thank you! We’re thinking of converting to an axle less setup in the future, but my current belief is it’d be just so the ride is nicer for the stuff inside the camper. I’m not sure if it’d help with roll potential, but if it did, that’d be the real reason I convert it. The articulating hitch is definitely an absolute requirement… that’s what allows me to get it over trickier obstacles.
I wonder how much weight the wood added. The camper I’m going with is sort of raw and this looks really cool.
About 200lbs from when I weighed it 2 years ago. I don’t feel it with the Jeep… let’s talk about the camper collab!
zero need to apologize for anything.. and the table does not bother me at all. just my opinion.
Yeah, it’s no big deal… but I have a new camera that we’ll be shooting new guides with this season so I just want to clean it up a little.
Hey! This is Cherry from Coverado. We are sincerely looking for a video collaboration with you.
Are you interested in working with us to try our JL custom seat covers?
Hi! I just checked out your page and it appears y’all are a Colorado company. I’d be willing to buy a pair of covers. I don’t do product for video type of videos as that creates bias so I turn those down. However, I’d be down to support a Colorado company and they may make a gear video we want to produce one day (not sure if we will tho). They will likely be seen in my trail guides tho as I do a lot of narration while wheeling now.
@@coloradomallcrawlers Hi. Sorry for the late reply. I am sorry that our company is not in Colorado. And actually we need a CZcams video mainly about our products. So I am afraid that we cannot reach out a collaboration this time. I hope that we can cooperate in the future!
