  • Clohesy Lake and Halfmoon Gulch looked like they have the deepest water crossings around from a recent CORE video. We go search for them with a stock Jeep Wrangler JL, modified Nissan Xterra, and Toyota T100. Trail Guide of Clohesy Lake and you'll see how far we get on Halfmoon Gulch (Funtreks Books), Champion Mill (CORE), Halfmoon Creek (trails offroad). Filmed on July 1st, 2023 which also was the weekend everyone was using to celebrate Independence Day! Trails are between Leadville Colorado and Buena Vista Colorado.
    Channel Members have access to our filming schedule and I want you to be in the videos! The Black Bear crew gets additional easy to edit videos but offer more up to date info on trails (since guides take a while to put together). The Holy Cross crew gets more say in what videos get edited for the channel (video credits and early looks at Trail Guide edits). / @coloradomallcrawlers

    Jeep JL Mini Review: I've been a big supporter of wheeling stock as I did it for years in my Jeep Wrangler JK without any issues. I'm mostly disappointed in that I trusted FCA/JEEP/FIAT/WHATEVER to keep the JL protected like the JK did. Full Video Review of the Jeep Wrangler JL coming, but being pushed back as we are getting data from Sean as he just bought a JLU. In the meantime, the JL is a very capable Jeep, but I will no longer buy MOPAR parts as they are no longer worth the money in my opinion. We'll dive into this.
    About Colorado Mallcrawlers:

    2021 stock Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JL (CO)
    2005 stock Jeep Liberty KJ Rocky Mountain Edition (TN)

      That was what my focus was as I was getting tired of being told I needed 37s for trails I did in my stock JK. I do think the JL is overpowered for CO tho so I’ll be switching to the TJ once I pick it up and make sure it’s reliable. I can’t wheel a TJ rubicon well so that’ll be fun to get through these trails. I’ll likely put 35s on the JL, keep the TJ stock. TJ will eventually have 33s, but I’ll have a new stock vehicle when I do that.

I recently purchased a stock KL Trailhawk (2019), and as a Jeep newbie, channels like yours are a tremendous help for those of us that have limits with our vehicle and skill level. I also love that you mentioned how these 4x4 trails have more purpose than people realize, like bringing your mother to places she wouldn’t be able to see otherwise. I would love to take my elderly mother on some easier scenic trails. She loves the mountains, but doesn’t get out that much anymore. Even though I’m excited about getting off the beaten path, I feel like there’s a lot to learn first, and your channel has been a great source! …Btw, congrats on the TJ, an old familiar ride with so many new memories to be made, love it!

    Is there a way you can show a stock 4xe Sahara trim do a moderate to difficult trail? I'm curious how it would perform off-road without any off-road dedicated feature like in the rubicons and also how the extra battery weight affects it.

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  Před rokem +1

      I can’t buy anymore Jeeps. The Sahara 4XE only needs better tires (not bigger, just decent MTs or ATs), side protection (rock rails), and skids to be safe to take on moderate and difficult CO trails. All wranglers are very capable even the 4XE. Jeep does a good job of making them all capable, but just not so good at protecting them anymore (so I recommend aftermarket rails/skids).
      In all my videos, I wheel like an open differential Jeep (unless I indicate that I needed lockers… I hardly ever need lockers in CO). The JL is the most capable stock Jeep ever made… so much that I’m going to start wheeling a less capable stock TJ for these trail guides. If the TJ can do the trail unlocked, then a lot of newer vehicles including your Sahara 4XE could do the trail easily. The biggest thing for you is going to be getting out there and improving your confidence. I could get a Sahara 4XE with the minor mods I noted through most difficult CO trails (exception Mount Blanca and Holy Cross). Next week’s video will likely be useful to you!

      @coloradomallcrawlers  Před rokem

      I’m sorry you lost a friend. My seatbelt is not broken. I wear my seatbelt on obstacles, off camber shelf roads, and always when daily driving. However, when filming, I’m getting in and out of the Jeep a lot. I trust my judgement on when it’s safe to not wear it. For instance, when I’m not wearing it in this video, there was no real risk. Thank you for your concern.

    • @doylekstewart
      @doylekstewart Před rokem

      I think your decision is irresponsible. Your safety is irrelevant, and I accept your decision to forgo the seatbelt. My concern is that you are demonstrating an unsafe condition for your own convenience. I believe in promoting safe and responsible four-wheeling. You take the time in editing to show the trails and tracks. There are a lot of people that do not think we should be allowed to use these trails. Some of them have even commented on this video. Showing yourself driving offroad, where conditions can change dramatically without warning, may be seen as careless and is counter-productive.
      I have been driving off road for almost 50 years. I am still an active wheeler and volunteer at multiple charity events each year as a trail guide. At these events, I often get in and out of my vehicle a hundred times in a day. I make it a point to buckle up each time I get in, even driving on trails that I have driven countless times and know well. I am not concerned so much for my safety as I am for promoting good behavior. I want the young folks watching us old farts to learn good habits. As a content provider, I would expect you want to lead by example.
      Unfortunately, all the good work you do in researching trails, collecting video, editing, and posting content might be dismissed due to irresponsible behavior. I implore you to lead by example and show the haters what most of our community believes in.

    • @coloradomallcrawlers
      @coloradomallcrawlers  Před rokem

      This is a personal decision as an adult and I accept that you consider it reckless. However, you’re also not out there with me either so you really don’t have a valid understanding of what I’m doing (you see 20 mins of 5-6 hours). You also don’t know me. You may not know, but I’m a retired physician (pediatrician) who has taken care of a lot of auto accidents. I have a good understanding of the risks involved with not wearing a seatbelt, more so than most people. I practiced in TN so I also saw a lot of off-road accidents (mostly atv rollovers). There are a lot of risks that I have to personally take to film these videos. It is better for me to focus my attention on riskier activities. Also, my wheel orientation, parking brake, and manual gear selection when parking on a trail is the riskiest thing I do and messing with a seat belt every time I stop to film was problematic for me. This is why I changed to be safer while filming as I use to be like you and always wore a seat belt the whole time while wheeling (as I said, I still wear it on shelf roads, obstacles, unusual conditions, tougher terrain, etc). I only don’t wear it when I’m on the easy parts of a trail (movie magic as I move those clips around to fill out a video). You as a viewer can’t see if I have my lap belt on or not. This is just safest for me and I’m not going to change to a less safe method (learned by experience). Also, I get nonstop messages about guiding people on trails, but I currently don’t do this. I’m an off-road videomaker, not a trail guide. The video becomes a trail guide after filming. Everyone knows that’s my role who is out there with me. In fact, Drew lead this one except when I needed outside shots. Unfortunately, this bothers you because of your personal experience. My decision is made based on my personal experience as a physician, a railroader (no seatbelts on locomotives), and an off-roader for over two decades. I accept a calculated risk, but not wearing a seat belt on the EASY wide open parts of a trail are not as risky as the filming itself is. Also, my railroad job is a lot riskier than anything I do on this channel by the way (we just had a yard death a few months ago in Denver).
      Life is full of calculated risks. If I die while wheeling, then I died doing something I love. I hope all can die doing something they love. However, I don’t have a death wish either. So unfortunately, we are going to have to agree to disagree here. I responded honestly here out of respect for you, but unless you’re out there with me, you will not understand the lengths I go to ensure my and more importantly, the safety of those in my videos.
