- Here’s 25 tips for your first 4x4 trails, overland trips, and backroads. For ALL rigs. Jeep, Toyota, Nissan, UTV, ATV you name it! I have been off-roading for a long time, but I still remember not having a clue when I got my first Jeep Wrangler TJ . My goal was to bring you tips I have learned through experience and that’s presented here. Be sure to check the comments for other tips from our incredible community... we got some amazing off-roaders as regulars here!

Hi,
I’m new to off-road. So thank you for the quick tips. Matter of fact the furthest I’ve been off-road is probably 39 feet. Found a big drop off so I backed out of the trail. At that time I didn’t have skid plates or any undercarriage protection just thought it best to stop and back out. But hey I got to use my 4 wheel drive in reverse for 39 feet. LOL. I’m working on getting undercarriage protection on my truck now so in the future maybe I can go 50 or 60 feet off road in drive this time. Thanks for the great videos please keep putting them out and I will keep watching.
I was there once… I still remember scraping the underside of my TJ on some rocks and thinking I destroyed my daily driver. Getting comfortable off-road takes time, you’ll be there soon!

Offroading in different conditions is a very good subject. I offroad in Colorado in the summer and Utah in spring and fall, my approach is to go 4-low when traction requires it and go slow and easy as much as possible. I rarely need to go hard when doing this but I wonder if sometimes in slicker conditions or water crossings if I'm going fast enough.
Absolutely! I mostly wheel Colorado and Utah, but I started in the East with lots of mud. Good stuff!

Thank you for making this video! I just got a 2019 Cherokee Limited 2.0 4x4 and I see there’s a lot to learn (and buy haha) Those rock rails on that Trailhawk are awesome. My jeep looks like it has some protection underneath but idk if I need more

I definitely break some of these such as wheeling alone and just going for it when it comes to water crossings (hello there Coney Flats 😅) however, I have definitely turned around when wheeling alone when I didn’t feel comfortable and my general rule of thumb is to never do anything harder than a 5 alone unless I’ve ran the trail before. Getting a winch finally also helps but be mindful that there may not always be something to winch to unless you have another vehicle.
Great content as always Dewey! I highly recommend to anyone to watch trail videos on this channel as well as others who frequently do trail videos in this area before heading out. One other thing to keep in mind that obstacles look 10x easier, less steep, etc on video than they are in the real world. So always keep that in mind, and read recent reviews to see what people are saying about the current conditions of the trails you’ll be doing.

Nice quick summary! I've been reminded too many times of the importance of never wheeling alone...i would have been in serious trouble atleast 3 times this year this year alone, if i didn't have someone with me! (who's that handsome guy on the thumbnail?...i think someone needs to bring that style back!)
Airing down helps more than your kidneys...it is easier on every single joint and component on the vehicle by being less jaring. Also easier on axles and gears since tires won't be searching for traction as often and suddenly bite on something!
Lol, I think I was 15 in that pic and just got my learners permit… I first looked at it and thought I was 11 or 12.

Me too, but it’s at the mercy of my dad’s mechanic right now. It’s not a priority for his mechanic because it’s a youtuber’s vehicle.

In an uphill trail / hill climb when the wheel ruts are 14 inches in some sections and my jeep has 11 inches of clearance, I won’t be able to drive with wheels in the ruts. Avoid or figure out how to avoid driving in the wheel ruts? I so want to get up this particular trail. 😅

You lost me at the first tip. I work so much throughout the year that I don't get a chance to do weekends trips with other people. 100% of my trips have been solo and will probably be in the foreseeable future. My first ever off-road trail was a level 7 in Moab.... Trial by fire!!!
Tips are simply tips… you can choose to ignore them or not. But if you do this long enough as I have, you’ll get burned eventually.
Some people are more prepared than others. I carry way more than probably 99% of the people watching these videos. Than again I'm in a full-size that can carry 1,700 pounds in the bed. Lol
I roll solo alot and like it that way. There are risk but way less than driving in the Denver metro. Please keep it in reality. There are over 100 deaths just in motorcycles alone in Denver. Off-road is very safe overall. If your solo just have a good pair of hiking boots and food and water and good clothes incase you got to walk back without other rigs around or cell coverage.
Soon most high end phones will be able to work off satellites. I'm not doing trips everytime in groups anyway. I need my time with nature and peace.
@@coloradomallcrawlers ... I wasn't trying to be negative. I just thought it funny that I run solo trips and your first tip was to be with other people. I get your intent and see pros and cons to both sides. I guess it boils down to the individual.
I get it! I run solo a lot too… it’s just been burning me a lot lately. 98% of my solo trips are done solo without issue, but I’ve learned a lot of 20 years. This list is for newer wheelers.
