Any smoke?
No, no smoke at all never uses any oil I fitted a turbo when I bought it as turbo shaft and sheared off so that's been done as well. I've swapped the n75 valve and check the pipework breather pipe and EGR all seem to function well. I think it has a weird intercooler and also swirl flaps which centre actuate but I could be wrong could be wrong.
The intercooler is a square oblong box with a valve in between it
@@calvinhudson327 my car has the same noise. I don't want to drive it hard. I'm scared it's a boost leak.
@InvisibleYetVisible if it's not losing boost power it's probably ok I've drove mine up and down the motorway many times and it's been fine as long as the turbos getting oil and there's no significant play it should be fine.

Still not found it to be honest just live with it, however i did get a P200200 error a week ago. when below about 8'c it misses for a while about 2mins so I'm thinking it may be the egr cooler as the egr valve functions correctly. although this may be nothing to do with the noise when warm.

Hi does vdubdiag read abs sensor faults?
Hi Mate, I have just done a quick video of what I can see on a Seat Mii under ABS I will post link shortly, If the ABS module supports the feature i would guess this will read abs sensor faults without a problem as this is more than just a basic OBD reader/reset tool, It has the ability to go deep into all modules read, clear faults and do basic settings output test and so on. my findings are that not all modules support individual sensors my wife's Smart fortwo just said rear right when looking at the fault code (obviously using a different OBD device compatible with Smart), my Golf MK6 with VCDs allowed me to spin the wheel and see a mV reading generated by the sensor. I will say its a great tool that you can plugin and easy to use i love this, if someone else has purchased one and would like to comment that would be good for other people to know its capabilities including me. FYI; I purchased another one of these on offer from another site out of interest and it wouldn't work on my Samsung or Huawei (unable to connect to the Bluetooth although listed) and was very slow with the iPhone, no problems with the VdubDiag one on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10Plus, when I opened the OBD device the internals were different to the working vDubDiag.
czcams.com/video/3mPdXoadJkQ/video.html - sorry its very quick just to show you what you will see under ABS
@@calvinhudson327 Hi many thanks and very very helpful. You've convinced me and got one off ebay. Just hoping it's the genuine one. Will report back once tested.
I tested and it does read ABS faults. Showing the same fault as the garage with snap-on machine. Also there's live speed sensor data too. Great little thing and no issues with my Honor Magic 5 pro.
Hi, I'm pleased to here that, I don't make anything from making these videos and would hate to miss lead anyone; so when people add comments good or bad it helps everyone. as I've mentioned before not all OBD tools work for every model or offer the same in-depth level of diagnostics. It also depends on what the ECU/PCM support. Thankyou
Hi, having had more time to play with the vdub diag, what are your current thoughts? Ive got a4 b7 with airbag light on ,non functioning rcl, and want to add aux input to the rnse unit, would you recommend vdub over obd11, or still go for vcds. Many thanks, Mick
Hi, Just read your question, If I'm honest i would say Vdub diag works well but one thing i have noticed is no tool fits all. this is the link for OBD11 forum that may help answer your specific question forum.obdeleven.com/ OBD11 is very good but charges credits for retro functions and even service resets coding, so i only use it to diagnose if i'm on the road and have any issues. I'm currently having issues with a Seat Mii Auto and none have really helped with the solution yet. But back to you. Vdub diag allowed me to recode the gearbox module to the car and is communicating again so that has done the same as VCDs. FVDI is another good tool for coding stuff but didn't help me on my A4 B7 as it turned out to be my Engine ECU at fault. VAS (the older version of ODIS) was good and guided you through the Steps along the way. So i wouldn't like to make a decision for you. I just ran through VDubDiag on A4 B7 (without a car connected ) and it looks like its possible to do airbag basic settings and Adaption sorry i cannot help further. here is another video of its use on an A5 czcams.com/video/VJCU66Vommc/video.html

Most informative video available, Thanks. I followed your video exactly. My car would start and run for about 7-8 seconds then settle down to idle and stutter and misfire. I couldn't figure it out and took it to an import shop. They hooked it up to the Mercedes software and said my timing was off by 9 degrees and suspected I was off a tooth. I opened it all back up again and it matches exactly where you put it. One tooth on the intake cam is about 8 degrees.... Did yours run correctly?
Does it have a grass collection box on the back?

What's oil do you use ?
To be honest with you i used to buy 2litre bottles fully synthetic 5w/30 shell helix or Castrol MAGNATEC i used once when it was on offer but always new filter.
Thanks so much for posting this. I use the AllData online shop manual, which is usually pretty good, but the two dots at the crankshaft threw me. Putting this back together after a blown head gasket. I spent a few years working on cars, and twenty or so on aircraft, but never anything as difficult as this car. Not much thought given to ease of maintenance.
Hi Melissa, thanks for your positive comment, i to have used AllData and found its a good source of info for settings, torque sequences and Servicing but for this 451 engine it was just not clear on how to set the timing marks and with the cylinders being set at 120 degres it made it all the more awkward compared to the old 180 degree engines.
Couldn't agree more with Melissa. AllData was very vague on this and Calvin's video made the process clear and easy. Many thanks for this video and advice, made the installation easy peasy!!
It's a car I couldn't live with. Not because if styling but simply because of that dreadful sounding engine. It sounds like that because each piston fires every 180c unlike the more conveniental 360c on most 2cyl engines.
Hi Michael, It is what it is what other options are there to stay dry and warm at 16 in the UK, When i first bought it for my wife i felt like i had bought a 4 wheel cement mixer but it never let my wife down in the 6 years she had it, was warm able to take her to work and shopping without the useless taxi drivers letting her down and looked as good as the day she bought it. plus got the same back when i sold it. A lovely couple bought it for their son hope it serves him as well as it did my wife. I did look at the Twizzy but you need a license to drive i believe as the BHP was 21 if i recall.
@@calvinhudson327Correct and at least it did what you wanted it to do. I wasn't saying that Aixam make bad cars it's just that particular engine i'm not a fan of because of the sound of it and the vibration must have been horrendous but i suppose after a while you'd get use to it. I'd happily have the 2cy petrol or 3cyl diesel model as it's smoother but can't because i do alot of urban and motorway driving which they aren't really suitable for. I've only seen them in towns and cities.
@@jaggass it's not just the noise it's the vibrations too the cars radio does help silence the obvious noise and on the older models it was the dashboard rattling due to its horrible vibrations those Kubota engines produce, they are good for a number of things but just it's only if you haven't got a car license already these are pretty expensive as well for what they are
@@doberman194 Kubota's have the 180c firing interval like many small Japanese motorbike engines. The 2 cyl petrol has the more conventional 360c firing interval like most in flat twin or inline 2 engines. They're pricey but let alot of young people get out and about more practical than a moped or quad bike.
There is a petrol one also
How I wish that someone on CZcams would post a video detailing how to set the timing for a Smart 450 CDI. There is no information on this particular model unfortunately.
Is there any other oil change eg gearbox oil? Any air filter?? Anyway to tune the carb??
Hi Yes there is CVT oil and an air filter that can be found in the manual.pdf further down on this page (its free) as for the Tuning carb ( or Throttle body) yes and no you can adjust the throttle stop slightly to allow more pedal but i wouldn't go to far as the mixture may not be correct ( i did this on my wife's to get a few more MPH but do so at your own risk)
In addition, i found one video about "injector minimum quantity adaptation", have you tried it? Also they say that an injector can make compensation for a worn flywheel. Greets!

@@dtv3483 Hi, I'd rather not say as it wouldn't be polite to the family that purchased it, I did notice two others over the last year one at £4800 and another £7,795 if you look here there are a few for sale but may be LHD here - www.theparking.eu/used-cars/aixam-coupe-poland.html#!/used-cars/aixam-coupe.html you will also incur import and maybe registration costs both of which i have no knowledge of.
Yeah I’ve seen that website before, I think I’ll wait and hope one becomes available here in the uk! Fingers crossed!
Would you ask the family if they wouldn’t mind me contacting them? I’d be interested in the car after they have used it, would that be okay Calvin?
I live inbeween Polaris industries and arctic cat, would be awesome to own the turbo version, if sold in Canada I'd buy and drive it across the boarder
Hi I have CBT certificate for motorbike can I drive any Aixam with my CBT ?
When i purchased for my wife she had a UK provisional licence with AM on it ( this wasn't something she had to do it was already on the licence) and then went and passed her moped CBT one day course, I contacted the DVLA and they said yes. As long as it was under 5 bhp and limited to 28 mph. To be on the safe side I would contact a motorbike shop or speak to CBT test centre for advice there is some info here or call aixam in the UK www-dailymail-co-uk.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2232401/amp/Aixam-Coupe-S-Teenagers-need-moped-licence-handle-light-quadricycle.html?amp_js_v=a6&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQKKAFQArABIIACAw%3D%3D#aoh=16457321814154&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From%20%251%24s&share=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailymail.co.uk%2Fnews%2Farticle-2232401%2FAixam-Coupe-S-Teenagers-need-moped-licence-handle-light-quadricycle.html

Hi, No it has to be the one that under 5hp, 350kg in weight, limited to 28mph. Light weight quadrocycle. Check on aixam web site.
U need a full motorbike license
If you are born before 1988 you don't need a licence and have am on provisional
Hi would you like to sell your Aixam coupe
Hang on I can drive this at 16 then
Hi, Yes on a CBT licence its classed as a AM licence car, because they only do 30mph. Category AM mopeds have a maximum speed between 25km/h and 45km/h. See this - conversation.which.co.uk/parenting/16-year-olds-can-now-legally-drive-small-cars/ My wife wasn't 16 but she had had enough of taxis letting her down getting her work late. So i contacted the DVLA and they said yes as long as its under 5hp and 350KG in weight and she has passed her CBT moped licence which allows you to drive for 2 years and then you must either pass your test or redo CBT for a further 2 years, its classed as a light weight quadracycle, contact a motorcycle CBT test center and ask them they will advise you better than me. Hope that helps. the only downside is expensive even second hand. Apparently the french can drive at 14 see here www.aixam.com/en/driving-from-the-age-of-14
Oh nearly forgot - it has to be the same model and not the 500 and 600cc ones so be careful and check first.
@@calvinhudson327 ohh right I see well yeh I’m turning 16 this year and can’t be bothered waiting till I’m 17 haha car guy stuff cheers bro
Hi Calvin. I have the Aixam 500 Diesel. I am confused to what goes in the automatic transmission unit. Is it ATF. Gear oil or synthetic oil.? Looking at your user manual it says Inverter unit. I assume that is the automatic gear box but it says synthetic Oil any idea please? I have not driven it yet as it needed work doing to the engine. thank you
If its a cvt belt drive i found this 80W90 reversing axle oil - High quality semi-synthetic here mini-auto-parts.co.uk/gear-box-aixam/430-reverse-gearbox-oil-2000000019383.html hope it helps. Look at the model in the weblink. I'll double check when I get a mo
@@calvinhudson327 Hi and thank you. I have purchased a litre of 80-W90 Axle Oil. I will try that this week and hopefully it will be alright. I had a litre of ATF and swapped it at the shop for the 80-90.
Hi Geoff, that's great, If you look at the manual that can be found here for free - at.aixam-mega-sav.com/Data/Gamme/doc/MANUEL_DE_REPARATION_S8rev2_UK.pdf - (MANUEL_DE_REPARATION_S8rev2_UK.pdf) on page 31 of 181 it states SAE 75/90 1 litre; but 80/90 should be fine and what it states on car parts suppliers, its all about viscosity the extremes and how cold and how hot the environment is, then you can mate an informed decision. Personally i always use fully synthetic where ever possible unless it states differently. Some motorcycle wet clutches can slip with synthetic oil as apposed to Mineral oil.
@@calvinhudson327 Thank you for putting yourself out to help me. The car has been neglected so I have been replacing outer parts of the engine. replaced the mount for the Headlights. yet to get inside the car and put a plate under the Handbrake it rocks from side to side. The radio turns on but no sound. Lots to do but loving the project. Many thanks
@@MrScorpiomoon Hello. Is it cheaper to fix than a car? On autodoc i found out that for example a starter for my b5 passat costs 89$ but on a Microcar starter Yanmar costs 139$ but in a different shop. Because you are doing it as a project so maybe you have such experience with regular cars too?
