- Check guide pin thread size and thread pitch before purchasing
I found when braking car would judder.
I thought it was warped disks; on initial inspection it was a loose slide pin.
with the wheel removed i noticed the thread was completely damaged so i purchased the thread rear tool c/w bushes. You could potentially use an HELICOIL but this kit offers best chance of caliper pins being 90 degrees, otherwise you will get binding.
note - I suggest you check the Slide pins, disks and pads for damage and replace as necessary.
Where gloves and goggles when drilling - use the drill guides if it helps
steps
=====
Crack wheel nuts half a turn
Jack car
Support car with axle stands or similar
Remove wheel
Remove caliper slide pins - assuming you checked and confirmed thread had gone already.
Loosen Brake pad and gently remove caliper piston
Remove brake disk and remove grub screw
Check the Drill bit is the correct diameter for the bush
I drilled the first step and then follow through with the second step - one shot at this so measure twice drill once.
Drill the damaged caliper yoke/stub thread holding the drill at 90 Degrees
Using a slightly smaller threaded bolt than the bush thread, tighten to pull in the new threaded bush. Avoid using hammer.
Replace brake disk and fit grub screw
replace the Slide pins, if necessary, use new and correctly torque
lightly grease pins when replacing caliper
Ensure no grease on Pads or disc
Check for binding
Replace wheel and tighten bolts
Remove axle stands and lower jack
Tighten wheel bolts to correct torque
test drive and braking at low-speed empty road.
