the paint looks really awesome can't wait to see it with the new fender! i have to ask what is the brand of the oil cooler? it's super cool!
Pre 1984 are all high maintenance, there were several factors but a big one was sand casting to die casting .
Nice Job!!!!!
Thanks man!
Nice. Personally not a fan of orange, but that looks really really good.
Thanks, it's funny, there's been several other comments along the lines of "I don't usually like orange but I like this!"
Really nice.
Im really enjoying your channel, Paul! Seems as if youve committed yourself to it, and you're doin a great job bro, take er easy 🤘
Appreciate the kind words
looks awsome mate good work
Thanks
🤘😎🤘
Nice rattle can paint job.
Yeah, I do like the orange too. good job brother!😎👍
For the investment that’s a great result. Looks really good, love the choice to stick with orange on the bike.
Thanks, I like orange!
the finish probably reacts with petrol so be carefull when putting fuel in it, after 15 years my clearcoat started getting cracks in it, so yeah rattlecan paint jobs is not that great
@@happymark1805 it said to give it 2 weeks before exposure to chemicals so it's still sitting, we'll see how it holds up, for now it's better than it was! And maybe by the time it's due for a "refresh" I'll have a small "paint booth" setup. Thanks for watching and the comments
@@buttcrackcycles I had painted an engine cover with ratle cans, after that when my car needed some good paintjob I asked the professional painters to put some of their clearcoat over mine, that worked perfect, the 2K they put in rattle cans is clearly different that what the paint shop uses
Make a template of your strut holes first , and adjust it to your new fender.
Somebody has fresh eggs
Sure do!
@@buttcrackcycles fried Chicken Sat one year...
Yeah I've read stuff about that 1K and 2K NAPA store here in town sells paint.. that's where I get my pain it's a specialty paint store but it is run by Napa
Yeah that that's a good color I mean it's not Orange.. kind of a goalie Orange
Yeah it's not too "loud" if that makes sense, I like the color
@@buttcrackcycles I picked sparkling burgundy for my bike for now.. but people say hey it's pink
@@MoeLarrycurly1 personally I like pink 🤣
@@buttcrackcycles oh my....🤭
Well that's why I only paint for myself I have trouble being taking my time .. I want to rush stuff unfortunately that's not what you do when you paint... Great looking paint job.... I can make make paint look like it's old.. which is good cuz I know I bugger off a good paint job
Kool 👍👍👍
I love that color. Good job!
Thanks Ed, think it turned out well
@@buttcrackcycles now you gotta match that fender up to it.
It's AWESOME I'm sorry that I ragged you on orange a little at first. I was clearly wrong because that bike looks great !!!
Haha no worries! Thanks
Hey, it looks really good from here. It's a rider anyway, not a show bike. It's got that chopper look because you didn't put anything on the tank and no front fender. I spray bombed my '53 Buick with red oxide primer back in the day, at least it was all one color.😀😃
All one color is pretty good to me, I've had some "14 different color with some rust" vehicles over the years, but hey, we all have 🤣
Looks good. Rattle can paint has come along way. The SprayMax 2 part clear coat is key. That stuff works great, and keeps the gas from eating your paint. I would have done a wet sand then a cut, buff and polish to take it to the next level. I've done a few paint jobs and f you don't go crazy with the wet sand you won't burn though the clear... just knock the shine off of it to get rid of some orange peal then take the buffer to it. Maybe on the next one you can experiment a little.
Yeah I have a raw Sportster tank to paint for another one I'm working on, I'll try it! Definitely want to keep learning, thanks for the comment
Awesome 👍
Thank you!
Mighty fine church and romantic occasions shirt. I’d prolly leave it on during seggs too
I started riding on an old 78 Lowrider. Now, 45 years later that bike taught me everything I have learned about working on bikes and now I ride my 2015 Wide Glide and work on all my bikes
HD sells forward controls because customers, some of them, want forward controls. It's really that simple.
Bought my 81 FLHP in 84 as a 17 yo kid. Been thru it front to back top to bottom. Still got it runs like a champ.
I prefer mid controls and forward highway pegs.
Looking at that "rib" in the new fender I don't believe your struts are going to work. I would put it between your struts and see if you are going to have to cut anything off the front of the fender to get it to line up with the struts and the radius of the tire. The holes pretty much come last
💗
Fair points. as much as I love my forwards I also agree that mids are better for control... and rough roads.
Working on the new improved skid mark removal system obviously
It is a beginner bike and very good for that. It is not a heavy fast interstate bike. The one thing i did not like it the way too soft front shocks suck.
Your a sporster guy kewl
Fixing to drink some beers and have a good time
Creating quality content
Great video and find , and its all about what you want for it and what someone is willing to pay for it ,and that is how it has always been as far as saleing and haggleing goes tune them type of comments out of mind out of site. You have a good eye for this type stuff.
Thanks!
I had to look up what Existential means! I had a decal on my bike that said the only time I say no is when someone asked me if I had enough!!!😊
Thank you for the vid, thank you more for showing me a parent who doesn't shun the kid into an ipad, very refreshing. Had the same issue on 98 xlc 883, choke 1/8 out removed the fart and stumble at idle after a carb rebuild, but even with mixture screw at original settings it wasn't right. Hoping i can apply the knowledge you share today and will notify
Hope it's helpful, and yeah, I've got a good little helper who loves working on bikes!
Bike has straight pipes but yeah it's the $30 Amazon tail light that's going to give them away to the cops :-)
Exactly 🤣🤣
late comment but I often zip tie my front brake lever pulled in overnight after a bleed. I find it helps get that last little bit of air up to the master
@@mikekovacs8981 Mike, I actually ended up doing that in a later video, I found a few small leaks in this system that I fixed then reverse bled the system and ziptied the lever. Worked good!
Don't take to much notice of what people say about your bike in the comments. They probably don't even own a push bike and even if they do everybody's opinions are subjective and it's really only your opinion that matters when it comes to your affairs and your motorcycle. Enjoy it and rides ride safe 😊
Secure some hosepipe on the tyre. Rest the mudguard in place and mark the holes. The hosepipe will give you an even gap around the mudguard.
This is what I was going to suggest.
Well, i cant not reference the shoes 😅😅😅 but id flatten out a soda carton and trace it
Do exactly what you said the second time don't measure off of anything get the fender where you want it then make your mark. Keep the fender where you want any way you can
Yep..
I think I have seen guys put spacers equally on the rear tire to figure out a safe distance from the rear tire and the inside of the fender.
I can't remember what type of spacers they used, but I would probably use something at least an inch tall and something like rubber so it can have some grip on the fender so it doesn't fall off the rear tire while you are marking the holes
Yesh id probably try do the spacers till it looks right than sharpie the holes onto the fender
I think I saw Jesse James do this on West Coast choppers. It's been a few years since I saw it.
@@lacquerhead6938 possibly even good tape to hold it up? Idk if that would even work but when I fitted my fender for my bobber I used tubing taped the to tire to give it a even space
Smoking Bruce Banner?
I was thinking the same as @boxfullofbluzeg2235's comment
Or maybe pull struts off and mock them up that way
@@edZILLA64 both good idea
I always spaced it off tire and put it between the struts. Hold it with a couple of c clamps and spot the mounting holes with a drill bit. Done it several times.
tricky. 🤔 eye say tracers!
A "mock up" I believe it's called.
