    Through the S&S in the scrap and adapt a CV carb to the Shovel. S&S carbs have destroyed more Shovel bottom ends than the amount of Shovelheads still running. The S&S is the first thing i scrap when buying a Shovelhead. Also theres a 5 step setup process to setting up a Super E or G. If the carb isnt set up right in those 5 steps after a test ride...you MUST remove carb and change jets then repeat the tuning process...for as many times as it takes. Twisting adjustment screws with wrong jets will only insure engine failure. Good luck and happy riding.

      Seems fine now that I've played with it a little more. No fuel in the oil, and I got 42mpg on the last tank with easy starting and decent power. I have an extra, brand new, CV on the shelf, I've thought about trying it, but this seems good enough for now.

    • @buttcrackcycles
      @buttcrackcycles  Před měsícem +2

      Well, an Evo is probably the logical choice for reliability and lower purchase price! But I sure do love the pre-85 stuff. Good luck

      Shovelhead is the best route, although EVO'S are extremely dependable.

    Your getting closeŕ, keep playing with it when you have time. I was going to recommend you tighten the clutch spring nuts to stop the slipping but already recommended. I'll try this, S&S has a video on their site about drag pipes and options to correct the midrange sag. The first (and many) solution is to trash them and buy some S&S pipes (imagine that!) to cure it. They also do the double nut bolt, thumb screw, washer, various muffler options all tested on a dyno. Worth a look before spending more money. Good luck.

    • @buttcrackcycles
      @buttcrackcycles  Před měsícem +1

      I actually watched the video last week! Seems like the thumb screws do a pretty good job for only a couple bucks, might be what I try

    throw on some other exhausts with a little bit of silencer on like that liiks like the lowrider ones, it will give you some backpressure and that realy helps a lot with more low speed torque, I did that with mine when I bought it with open pipes

  • @FourIntoOne
    @FourIntoOne Před měsícem +1

    Nice update, thanks! A bit of back pressure will help for sure. My 82 Sporty has 2 inch drag pipes (way WAY overkill but fitted by a long distant previous owner) and when run open are ear splittingly load - really painful, and no mid range roll on at all. I run a pair of 6 inch universal mufflers in the back of them, helped the noise and the mid range massively. Still not perfect, and with those pipes never will be, but better - as yours will be 👍

    on your pipes- you don't need to go to trouble of trying to weld a washer, or a eye bolt in to prevent reversion in the pipes.... a simple double nutted bolt through the pipe works just as well, and is easier to do. Most drag pipes have a predrilled hole for a baffle- and thats the right spot- otherwise drill your hole, run a bolt thats long enough to reach top of pipe or just below it and then double nut it. Works prefect and eliminates that raspy tone in drags. lollipops are more of a gimmick (esp trying to "tune" one) and do nothing more than the plain bolt will do.

  • @GJM866
    @GJM866 Před měsícem

    Put torque cones in the drag pipes, it will run better and they just drop in. I used them in my sportster and I thought they made a difference.

      Nothing wrong with 1.75" drag pipes. Make sure the scoot is timed correctly with the right point and plug gap and you good to go.
