Thank you, this was so helpful! I am entering the school district as an LCSW in a manager role after 13 years of county mental health work. I need to learn the lay of the land.
I tried several times finding it, but couldn’t.
This guy trying to get you to conform to IEP meeting and they want to believe there’s a science to it but that’s not true this on a one side of a quick observation with out the input of parents. This business generates a lot of money but are they address the issue even the ones they mention in their report no not at all there’s no improvement because no one is actually locked into the needs of your child. But parents you know your child best don’t let these stranger have the last word.
😤🙄😒😐☹️😓😓😓😓😰😖😣😩😪I'm yeah? I'm confused and I have ADHD so I didn't understand one thing you were saying it's still not helpful or help me I need some one need to brack everything down
Have to admit that your demeanor was more subdued in this video. A much better approach with parents and district interaction and success walking away.
I understand your frustration, but being an obnoxious member of an IEP team gets your child nothing in return. Yes, know your rights and stand strong but not as a bully.
Excellent video and very helpful.
All I got from this is the desire to sell a product by making IEP teams the bad guys. No wonder teachers are leaving the profession in droves.
I’m terrified my son has PwS transitional transitional services and their knowledge of his disability is unfathomable you don’t know it until you live it and understanding it is not going to be explained. I don’t know what to do.
12:07 AM June 7, 2024 I feel so embarrassed the Director of special education warned another faculty member that I am rather high maintenance. I feel like if I don’t advocate I advocate I’m a pain in the butt. I’m insulted. My son has PwS and I am ignorant to him going to school. He’s going to high school. I am so worried his school classes they want to put him in the cafeteria and doing cooking classes, I am scared
Thank you ❤ great advice
Yes, my daughter doesn't have a problem going out, but does have a problem when things do not go her way
Therapy should be about personal development. I saw so so many videos on this channel that aren't about the kid or student. Makes sense now after seeing videos about ABA.
My requests were ignored so many times. My son just graduated, but when he was younger, it was a literal nightmare getting his IEP and educational needs met.
Good advice
I signed an IEP but was left confused and didn't agree to everything. I just felt like I had to. Imagine walking into a meeting with 4 team members from the school and its just you by yourself. Its so sad 😢😢😢
YOU SHOULD NEVER LEAVE CONFUSED! Set up a follow-up meeting to clarify issues that have confused you. Ask for a FULL TEAM to be in attendance. You have this right as a concerned parent. I am an advocate for our students., I'm also a sibling who was born in 1959 with Down syndrome, a wife, and a mother who is learning more every day about dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia. I am a member of IDA (International Dyslexia I'm also a CA teacher with credentials in general ed, special ed services, and leadership, and a master's in education, education technology, and administration but I've stayed in the classroom to support students, parents family members, and colleagues dedicated to supporting our students and family members. I am involved as a board member of The Dyslexia Association (IDA), Decoding Dyslexia CA, and a founding member of The Reading League CA. I'm also a CA teacher with credentials in general ed, special ed services, and leadership, and master's degrees in education, education technology, and administration, but I've stayed in the classroom until now and am now leaving to share my voice to support students, parents, family members, and colleagues outside of special education services. YES, THE SPECIAL ED SYSTEM IS BROKEN! If you need more help contact me at jgollette@gmail.com Final note, you do not need to sign your child's IEP until after taking this document home and fully understanding it. I am Dr. Judith Gollette an advocate for The Right to Learn! (jgollette@gmail.com)
We are not interested to keep my son in Seped classes. Is there a way we can fight with school?
Thank you! Can you explain what are rights we have for requesting para or Aide helping my son in the classroom? They r saying we can’t provide aide support all the time and in all the classes? Is it true? Is there a way I can fight with school?
Can you explain or show a video of what an ILC Class is for my child
There are way more cons to traditional school than he mentioned
I honestly learned pretty much everything on my own by reading or on the internet for free besides meeting friends college was a real waste of time and most of my high school was a waste of time. I think what you need to be teaching your kids is how to be a lifelong learner and how to learn yourself not going advocate at school It's not going to get you very far. I've never heard a good argument why we still need all this formal education when we're in the information age you can learn anything on your own at home for free.. honestly like who remembers or uses almost anything you learn in high school?
I grew up and went to school in Massachusetts and it was absolute garbage I mean maybe it's worse other places but it was really just college prep the whole time. I went to college at State University of New York that was even worse. The schools and places like Massachusetts New Hampshire New York are good if you're in an area that sells selects into pay super high property tax rates it has a bunch of dual parent households at Care a lot about education and that are highly educated like in suburban Boston. I lived in the Midwest for a while and have friends out there I would say the best bang for the Buck school systems are those in places like Lincoln Nebraska or Madison Wisconsin point good outcomes for much much less money and much more equal across the state I just said the rich school districts.
Wow, what about talking to the kid about what makes it difficult waiting for dinner OUTSIDE the heat of the moment? Finding solution WITH the kid? Are you joking me dude? This is laughable! TALK to the kid about what his concerns are around waiting for dinner!! Bring out the adults concerns about WHY it is important to wait for dinner. Find solutions together like a team. Dont treat little humans like this! Please! STOP! This is sad. Tantrums are them communicating they are having a hard time with a situation. Why are you guys punishing kids like this? TALK TO THEM!! find solutions together WITH them. Dont just impose it on them like that. Dont expect the kid to talk about what is making it hard for them to wait for dinner and not have cookie. Invite them for a dialog.
I suggest you to watch part 2 😅 this may help with your concern
@@Kassandrallb1tried several times finding it. This method is way too complicated. Not sustainable. There is other way, thank god.
Im a complete asshole when it co.e to my kid and her iep. I tell them to speak lehmans terms to me even tho i understand. I did my research and i still stay on their butts all year they hear me
I’m a new instructor dealing with my students. Would like to understand more about this subject. So I can be better with them
Helpful and informative - thank you from Australia !
Good video, thank you.
Is school allowwd tp increase mu high scjoolee in adsoeizon 8 1 to xlaases.with 15 students wo motify nor getting my comsent
My son's "team" at the high school did want they wanted anyway.
Thank you so much. So very helpful!
LRE is technically where the student can make meaningful gains. As such, there is no real hierarchy based on setting alone and is a false narrative out there.
Parents shouldn’t have to be kissing their a$$es. We as parents are already going through hell and back dealing with our kids. Schools are supposed to be professional and understand that parents are emotionally dealing with a lot. And if you aren't being combative they won't do anything for your kid and I can testify to that.
School district pushing on FAPE school which is far and going to cause more struggle for kid and parent. We as in parents are OK with current about hour to fwo support settings but school don't want to continue that . Please help what are our options
QUESTION: on the IEP do the Administrators go off of LAW codes regulations etc. for the IEP from just the TEA website or many other websites? And are there certain documents that they have to go off of for the IEP?
My Daughter has gone through this EXACT SAME THING! PLUS on TOP of that being BULLIED the entire time!! And I would even go to the school and speak with counselor and Principal and Teachers every year!!!! When in 8th Grade she was on a 504 finally, I sat with the Principal more then once and asked if we could do more for my Daughter, Answer being NO, I went to Administrative office and sat with the Superintendent and Attendant Principal and they helped get he what she needed. The IEP that was implemented was terrible I heard nothing but "We dont do that, we cant do that" from the team, and mainly Principal. This year, I took an Advocate that did nothing and I do mean Nothing, but I have been doing nothing but looking up IEP info for months. I PUSHED, ASKED, and said NO to alot, Until this IEP is for my child!!!!!
Wonderful information, Thank you
I am preparing for a job interview to be a teacher for students that require an IEP, and I can't thank you enough!
This was so helpful. Thank you so much!
I’m going to school myself and read all these videos and school myself on his math but right now I gotta go to work. I’ll be back.
I just learned what an IEP is I had to learn it myself they didn’t tell me that, but it sounds like a good thing the act was passed in 90s it’s for help children with special needs so they can get educated and live in normal life and I agree with that. That’s a good thing.
They don’t seem to be keep teaching him, his IEP teachers, the things that he should be learning in his classroom. It’s more like he hast to stick to what they are testing him on instead of testing the children so much. Why are they not teaching them? I’m worried about this. I see the change in the school system
My grandson is getting good grades but he doesn’t understand his homework he is lost these women take him out of class and they act like he needs them but they are not teaching him anything I’m worried sick
Very good I need to write accommodations for my self for my ged.
Do you have any videos for specific interventions for each of the 4 functions of behavior
I love your videos! I taught Developmental Preschool for many years before retiring from the public school system. I now teach early childhood and ECSE at a local university. These videos help me clarify the IEP process and my own personal experiences. Thank you so much!
Yes its happening
Thank you for sharing this.
