  • I posed the question the other day... Are schools considered essential?
According to MANY lists I've seen from cities and states detailing what professions are essential, the answer would be no.
    Are IEP's essential?
Pre COVID19 EVERYTHING in special education was driven off of an IEP... now? It doesn't seem to be the case...

Many accommodations commonly found in an IEP CAN be fulfilled online, but most of those require professional training or time!
Training hasn't really been at the forefront of priorities (at least on the surface)...
    And Time?
Well, many children with special needs have already lost 5 months of their true academics... time isn't something available at this point.
    So what do you do?
When it comes to online learning, there are a few steps you can take if you think your child is NOT receiving what they're supposed to...

ADA and AT accommodations and accountabilities and the schools using privacy, unions, and uncomfortabilities of studentS AND teachers as excuses

What process does a parent go thru when a school principal is stating that they feel "threatened" in terms of IEPs and the request of retention for a special education student who is failing?

Just to clarify your question... the principal feels threatened?

@@Specialedresource777 yes, the principal decided that because I was asking for an explanation on if my son's math grades were being graded on a curve, and if 4th quarter grades were not being counted toward the final grades for all classes for the 2019-2020 school year, she apparently felt threatened (as in a lawsuit against the school) because I was adamant about my child repeating 8th grade. He was failing 8th grade and had Fs for final grades in 7th grade which was when I had first asked for retention. He has been retained thankfully without further issues because the special education coordinator for the school district could tell something wasn't right with the grades.
