Are no longer valid.

How many times a day do YOU hear the term high-functioning autism?
Well, according to the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - 5th Edition)…
That term is outdated and no longer used amongst the professionals!
There are others that we hear all of the time…
Including; Aspergers, Autistic Disorder, Rett Syndrome have all been eliminated.
Instead, the “new way” of diagnosing different severity regarding autism is through levels.
Today, we unpack what parents need to know regarding autism, how to gauge the severity of the diagnosis, along with the different impairments or disorders often associated with autism.
Intellectual Impairment
Language Impairment
and others…
You most certainly do NOT want to miss this episode of Special Education Decoded!

Wanting to comment to help bump you up the algorithms of the CZcamss. I'm a lvl 1 late DXed female, whom had to make psychiatry/psychology, specifically ASD as a special interest. I want to say that you did a very good job condensing something that is very difficult for most people to comprehend. I feel like you did a phenomenal job using the DSM and conveying this information.
There is permanent herbs to improve and heal autistim. It’s a medicine you can get from Dr Oyalo CZcams channel, his herbs have made my son improve perfectly in his speech and social skills. He is now verbal, responding to name and instructions.
Well explained. Thank you!

Tips for savvy parents to push back and hold schools accountable up the chain. Especially in this Covid, Virtual world. I am getting pushback for asking for recorded playback zoom meetings, recordings, and transcripts under Assistive Technology, ADA, And IEP for my Autistic son on a Modified Diploma and a long history of therapy school, now in gen ed with supports highschool playing catchup. He was late diagnosis of Autism.
I’m in college and it’s much different. I have to beg my school for accommodations or help. Some Professors do discriminate against me due to my disabilities. I don’t know what to do! I feel like my school isn’t helping me!

ASD 1: Requires support
* Exhibit lacking of interest in social interaction
* inflexibility of behavior
* anxiety or difficulty switching between different activities
* challenges with organization that hampers independence
* stick to routines and dislike unscheduled events
* can communicate verbally and engage in relationships although friendships are difficult
ASD 2: requires substantial support
* difficulty with verbal and nonverbal social communication
* initiation of social interactions is limited
* reduced or abnormal responses to social overtures from others
* difficulty in changing focus
* may only participate in short conversations
* may need extensive support to participate in social activities
ASD 3: requires very substantial support
* social communication can be non-existent
* social skills are often completely non-existent as well
* repetitive or restrictive behaviors tend to get in the way of functioning independently. eg: rocking, spinning, flapping
* often do not communicate verbally at all or can be very limited

@Accra Terminal agency it's possible that the herbs were helpful (although I find placebo more likely) but your comment is spam since it's unsolicited advertising that's unrelated to my comment. Also I don't know anyone with autism.
Yup ok level 2
Thank you 🙏🏻
Omg thank you so much. I have ADHD and highly suspect autism but wanted to understand the types better... it was so hard to listen to him ramble, I got absolutely nothing out of the video. You're awesome 👍

Thank you for the kind word, Agbo
I'm more confused than I was, thanks
Me too 😂
Would appreciate if we can be prescribed some coaching or procedures such as stem cell, or magnetic therapy. Do these have positive effect ? as I don't want to worsen her condition. She is 3 years and 9 months old
Does Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is a type/category of autism??
The puzzle Symbole doesn’t it have a bad reputation
@NEW HOPE INSURANCE LTD wth herbs???
How do I get my 8 year old with asd potty trained? or at laset to stop smearing! please help!
Please help me my son is have an autism his "childhood disintegrated disorders" I don't know how to treat him... Please help me his only 6yrs old and I don't have financial for his treatment... Please help us...
We have a medical diagnosis for asd but since the school does not like the dr they refuse to give us a iep! 2 different school districts and because he “looks” normal they don’t believe he has an educational need under autism(I’ve even been told they don’t believe he has autism period)
If he has a diagnosis from a doctor, that's a lawsuit ready to go for denying a needed accommodation for a disability.
I was curious about this because my cousin has Autism and he’s the only experience I have on this subject, but now a days people throw that word around and label anyone with OCD as Autistic so I was curious if I was wrong on this subject or if people are using this as a slur since the R world is more frowned upon these days.
What about part of level 1 part of level 2 but not level 3
So my friends child at age 6 doesn't speak, at all. He doesn't have any of the behavior tics like spinning, rocking, but just runs around the house CONSTANTLY and grunts. He doesn't really play with toys or watch much TV. He seems to enjoy music and running that's it. Would he fall under level 3? I've suspected autism since he was 3 but his father just won't admit that he may be autistic. The family doctor, mother, and school has him on aderol but I see no difference in his behavior. He also punches, kicks his teachers. I can't seem to get his father to see he really needs help.
My sons psychologist says he doesn't have autism but ADHD. That is isn't always the best to diagnose a child with autism. TO me it seems like she just doesn't like to diagnose autism. Instead she said he has autism tendencies. How is this not Autism?
I say break the spectrum. You don't call all diseases diabetes when most are in fact due to high insulin / blood sugar
Wdym break the spectrum 💀
@@akiradrawsforu like probably sections
Puzzle pieces are considered a hate symbol by many autistic people, including me. Do better.
Maybe try to be a touch less emphatic in the delivery. Thanks!
Unfortunately this system doesn't work either
I was diagnosed with asbergers and I will continue to call it asbergers it's my autism I'll call it what I want
My child is well behaved, easy to take care, sleeps, eats and plays well. Her issue is not interested in communication or playing with others. Secondly she does not use words without much deliberation. Even issues such as I want to go to the toilet, she will not speak out though she knows
Hi Ja. Your daughter sounds very much like my son. (3 years 4 months) I'm commenting because this seems to not be usual asd traits. He also is well behaved.. can sit still..very easy going..sleeps..eats and plays well. But hes just not interested socially and is non verbal (says words very occasionally but they are one offs). He understands whats going on around him..just not verbally. Would be interested to get in contact..perhaps we have tips for each other?
😤🙄😒😐☹️😓😓😓😓😰😖😣😩😪I'm yeah? I'm confused and I have ADHD so I didn't understand one thing you were saying it's still not helpful or help me I need some one need to brack everything down
Thanks for your clarification. But could you explain OCD - I often wonder if OCD is part of autism. Thank you.
If I am not mistaken, OCD is a separate disorder that can co-occur with ASD but isn't necesarrily present
OCD is an anxiety disorder. It does not belong to ASD
Bump!

Raise your hand if you were born with autism (like me)
I didn't find this video very helpful. ASD 1 sounds like a normal unsocial person who doesn't need support. The distinction between 1-2 is pretty vague. I'd like to have examples using 3 hypothetical people.
I have autism 🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬🐬
THIS IS SO WRONG .. so let’s say I have level 1 autism.. this means I shouldn’t flap my hands hey? Fool
Not to mention the puzzle pieces

i have autism because of that army won't allow me to join
Difference not disorder
Yes as a autistic person with ADHD yes it is
But labels are defining a person and causing trauma abuse and discrimination the whole set up is stupid and I'm level 2
I agree and I’m a level 2 aswell with loads of traits of the level 3. It’s a spectrum though, not a level basis.
Some how I am a level two and I was diagnosed with autism
@@amz-maz hey can u share ur ecpereince with me
Is it a label? Or is it information one can use to help someone succeed?
Don’t go by those labels then. Sometimes “labels” or what’s marked under them can help people understand who they are.
Asperger’s syndrome is a form of autism I have.
Look up where asbeegsrs came from
STOP WITH THE PUZZLE PEICES
WE DONT NEED FIXING
please redo without the puzzle pieces… rainbow ♾ is more accepting of the Autistic community 😊
Thank you doc for your good work
It’s been months now and my child has improved completely since using your herbs.
His therapist and school teacher has confirmed his improvement and this makes me happy
God bless you Dr Oyalo
