I think its like perfecting a formula over time. Just like anyother media, building upon the previous one by establishing the prior for money or credits. You cant just have a great game being developed for decades. And am sure the next one in the series would be even more near perfect gaming experience and have even better new improved mechanics, they only have couple of years in between to try nee things and work them around or remove them

I don't think that history really checks out at all. Dark Souls might have been a slow burn but it was already very much iconic before Bloodbourne. Looking at Google Trends backs it up with spikes when it came out, even more when DS2 came out, and hardly any spikes when Bloodbourne came out. DS3 is the next major spike.

It even created a mini meme because the article was based around them comparing something about the two and declaring 'Winner: Dark Souls' repeatedly. Every major gaming site did a preview live stream in the run up to the release hour on their front pages. The game was hyped to shit. (nice video though was a fun watch!)

Demon's Souls PS3 is still my fave since Release day in the USA. Saw the trailer for it (probably on gamespot) and had to buy it. The ink was coming off the guidebook when I sold my collectors edition.

Maaaan put some respect on Kings Field. The Souls series was directly inspired by Kings Field and probably wouldn't exist without it today. Also The Anciety City is lowkey an amazing game once you get past the dated feeling controls.
