      @RimstarOrg Před hodinou

      It sounds like you're using a much too powerful soldering iron. 50 or 60 watts should be enough. 30 watts is usually too little. You could also be holding the tip of the iron on there for too long, only a second or so should be needed.

    • @RimstarOrg

      No crystal is needed. In the early 1900s, the diode was actually a chunk of galena crystal and you'd touch it with the sharp tip of a wire but these days you use a diode like the one I show in this video.

    Hey guys, i was an amateur in a simple electronic, but i was an absolute beginner in something like radio. I have some question, So I (we) can each design our own crystal radio according to our needs and creativity and it was : - How to determine the AM frequency range based on the coil (wire diameter and wire length or coil diameter) - How to determine when and how to use variable capacitors - How to determine the parallel resistor value on the audio output - How to determine the inductance value using information on the highest planned AM frequency range - How to determine the inductance value based on the length and diameter of the wire used in the coil - How to make a variable inductor

    • @RimstarOrg
      @RimstarOrg Před 22 hodinami

      That's a lot of questions. This video czcams.com/video/EsZQS2GOMQE/video.html shows how I made it and has all the dimensions for the capacitor and coils. This one has another way of making the variable inductor (coil) czcams.com/video/d4ymSGH0-Jo/video.html using taps. There are many ways to make a crystal radio, but the basic idea is to have capacitance and inductance to tune into a specific frequency (preferably) and that capacitance and inductance can be in the antenna, coil and/or capacitor. In my radio I use an inductor (coil) and capacitor in parallel (there are also series circuits). This video one goes into how the crystal radio works czcams.com/video/HupFY_24o-4/video.html and I have specifc videos for how the parallel circuit works but they're best viewed from my webpage which also has calculators rimstar.org/science_electronics_projects/coil_design_inductance.htm and rimstar.org/science_electronics_projects/lc_circuit_aka_tank_or_resonant_circuit.htm .

I understand everything has electrons but it wouldn’t detach from the copper wires to form this “marble line”. Those copper wires would degrade very quickly don’t you think?? 😂😂

    What is the solder wont "flow" down to a cone shape? mine becomes a blob at the top of the pin and WONT stick, or even toutch the citcular pad on the board :( its like the pad activly repells the tin. I have cleaned everything with alcohol.

    • @RimstarOrg
      @RimstarOrg Před 8 dny

      Are you heating the pad? You need to touch the tip of the solding iron to the pad and the bas of the pin to heat them up. Then touch higher up on the pin with the solder. Since the pad and the pin are hot, the solder will flow down onto them. But also make sure you first clean the tip of your soldering iron, usually by pushing it in an out in something like steel wool and then putting some solder on it. I'd suggest looking for videos on soldering as there is a specific technique to it.

    • @storken756

      @@RimstarOrg Yeah. I did pre-heat both the pin and pad for >30 seconds and I just cleaned the tip of the soldering iron. I've been trying for days to get those pins soldered but I have given up and I will buy new tin and see if my current cheap tin is the problem. My soldering iron is also only rated for 30 watts so it might be running cold, im not sure. Thank you for these videos and your help!

    • @RimstarOrg
      @RimstarOrg Před 7 dny

      Cheap tin could be a problem. Tin that has a rosin core is better. It helps to use an acid or rosin to basically clean the surface of oxides so that the soldering will work better. That's my understanding anyway.

    The short explanation is that charge is sprayed onto the moving belt due to the action of the lower points. This charge is then carried up into the hollow metal dome. Faraday's ice pail experiment shows there can be no charge inside a hollow conductor so the charges migrate to the outside of the dome. The potential builds up until the air breaks down in a spark discharge . The energy for all this comes from the work done against the repulsive forces as the belt moves upwards.

      Yes, that's the way it works. You can see the inductance formula here rimstar.org/science_electronics_projects/coil_design_inductance.htm . Higher ur means you can have fewer turns and still have the same inductance. Length also plays a part but the number of turns has a bigger effect than length since the turns is squared in the formula.

    Sir, I have a question. Have you ever seen a Wimshust Machine where the disks were made out of 'WOOD'? I used to see a video on youtube, of a miniaturized Wimshurst Machine, completely made out of wood, except for the little metal sectors on the disk. Of course, the wood was lacquered. So, all the wooden surfaces were finished and the disks could conduct electricity. I think this Wimshurst Machine was made in South America, but the video seems to have vanished. I used to have a couple of pictures of this wooden Mini Wimshurst Machine on my old, now broken laptop. So, I can't retrieve it, yet.
