Haha, great! Couldn't have done it without Spiderman and friends! Are these all your designs?
No, they're all standard manual plans from decades ago. I made them all up a few years ago and then just came across the footage last week. It was an easy way to get a video out and show the world I wasn't dead!
That strange spring thing at 05:30 is interesting. Meccano made something like that - it was called a dynamometer and was briefly marketed in the early 1900s. It is mega rare and I have never seen one (search for 'meccano dynamometer') - it would be fab if you had stumbled across one of these. Don't chuck it, just in case. Either way, that was a great haul.
Thanks Neil. I did some research, and whilst I think it is a dynanometer of roughly the same period, it doesn't appear to be exactly the same as the ones in the Meccano set, which is a shame. I was all excited for a while though, and still think it's cool.
Excellent, three of my favourites. It was the 1967 model 3.10 that got me started with Meccano and fairground rides. Thanks for sharing 😊😁
Glad you enjoyed it
Great models - Meccano is well suited to fairground subjects - Yes I think a ride on those planes would leave you feeling pretty rough!
Indeed, although I was actually meaning the danger to myself if I got hit by one of them while turning it off!
Haha - I think both would apply 😅
Good to see another video from you!! Any models under construction at the moment?
Thanks Adam. No specific projects on the go right now, other than eventually I will get back to the big mobile crane. I do intend to get back to posting videos more regularly.
@@BaldyMakesStuffGreat stuff - looking forward to seeing more videos!
Some models I made a few years back. Forgotten I had this footage. The spinning aeroplanes look like they could be dangerous.
What is the reference number for this set?
Hi, it's innovation set 19903. They aren't selling them new anymore, but they come up from time to time on eBay. Just to say that I wouldn't recommend it for the programming brain - it drops connection constantly, and lost a lot of functionality after an update a couple of years ago. My son also dislocates his arms, and other joints, a lot. EDS.
Hi there, sorry to bother you, I'm just hoping you can help me. I bought this for my hubby and it came with instructions for 3 of the models. We then had to download what we could from Meccano website. Unfortunately it only gave us from A to L, but none of the remaining cars. You wouldn't happen to have these instructions would you or would you be able to point us in the right direction to find them. I have contact Meccano but they won't help at all! Thnx
Hi, this should be what you need: www.meccanoindex.co.uk/Mmanuals/Post-1981/Manuals-3/18211b.pdf
@@BaldyMakesStuff Unfortunately this does not appear what we need, but many thanks for your efforts. I do believe I have now found the rest of the builds. What a company, this is ridiculous, certainly won't be buying any more.
Code plz
Sorry, don't have it any longer.
Unable to locate this exact set for my grandson? Any websites would be helpful. Thanks!

The batteries can not be removed unless you destroy the entire thing
What I hate about the newer sets (2016 etc) is the percentage of parts that are plastic. I’m strong with the wrench and the amount of plastic pieces I have ended up splitting is unreal. Favourite one I’ve done is the red arrow as that kit had almost no plastic parts at all
I know a lot of people feel like that. Personally I'm fine with the new parts.
It's not pointless! The flat trunnion has a point.......
LOL! A rounded point at least.
Not bad! Not bad at all. I assume these are lasered? Max thickness?
Yes, laser cut, there is a previous video showing more of the making of them. They are 3mm.
Wish it was filmed in cinematic quality 4k60fps
Thanks so much. Only one question. How can I replace batteries?
You can not this is crap 💩 design
It's not possible to do it when the model is finished, but the entire point of Meccano is to dismantle it and re-build it in to something else. That's why it's a 25 model set. You can change the batteries when you dismantle for the next build.
Good to see you back. What ever happened to your mobile crane build? That step by step real time series was unlike anything else on CZcams and had me hooked.
Thank you. It's still there, and I promise I will get it moving again eventually. Just been busy with life and youtube and Meccano taken a back seat for a while.
Can you tell me what size Allen head bolts you use?
@@telepresence Hi, all Meccano bolts are made to thread size 5/32 Whitworth. The lengths vary.
I suspect the stray gears might do from a disassembled clockwork motor....
Thanks. Do you recognise them from a meccano one, or just a random clockwork motor?
@@BaldyMakesStuff I meant a Meccano motor, I might be wrong.
Exciting! The white Meccano looks cool, and you got plenty of more gears. Wonder what you'll do with the keyway/slot parts, and I'm also curious to know if those smaller gears are actual Meccano as you mention. The most fun I think here are those motors, which I had planed on ordering a few online this week myself actually.
I don't really know what I intend to do with most of it - I already have a load of keyways that I haven't used. Motors are always handy, although again I already have quite a few. Just couldn't resist it for the money, and more than happy with what I got. Do you want another package of stuff if you cover the postage? Send me an email.
@@BaldyMakesStuff Copy that. That's sorta how I came across most of my collection as well. Exciting cause it's cheap, and never you know what you'll get. I'm happy to pay you postage and then some to cover the cost. I'm very interested in some of those motors. Sending you an email now.
Great to see you back, and thats a nice haul.
Thank you, good to be back!
Check the jar of spring clips for oddly shapped ones that are the fixings for the tunnel gears. Thanks for the video.
Good idea, was wondering if they were in there.
Circular parts with two hole extensions are eccentric parts
Thanks Gary. I thought they looked familiar, I have a few eccentrics.
The larger hooks were used with the Mogul crane
Thanks Gary, good to know.
yes it was a good day at S.M G . the best meccano barging was the members truing up nice to meet you Baldy
Cheers Chris, nice to have a chat in person. Your dalek is awesome!
the parts at about 11.54 are from dismantled eccentrics
Thanks Michael, I can see it now you tell me!
Wow, amazing value
Thanks Nick, I was very pleased with it.
Meccano Elektrikit coils failed like this when new right out of the box. It is poor design, clamping wire ends under a rivet that has to take bolts through it. They can be fixed but they won't stay fixed.
My mother bought me this kit in 1963. Unfortunately, the quality of design and manufacturing was disgusting. For example, the round coils were defective from new - they had shorted turns, so their magnetic pull was weak, and models described in the manual using the round coils would not work. My father took the round coils back to the shop and got them exchanged, but the exchange parts were defective too. The square coils worked ok, for a while. As I recall, the wire ends of the coils was just placed under rivets in the plastic former to provide contact - designed-in failure. a local electrician that my father knew was able to drill out the rivets, pull out a bit of wire, and put new rivets in, which extended the coil life a bit. The kit included some nickel plated bolts to be used as contacts - they soon wore out, due to arcing removing the plating. The kit included a plastic commutator/sequencer thingy that also rapidly wore out. Some of the models described in the manual worked fairly well, most worked sort of, except anything using the round coils would not. I suggest that a big part of why it wasn't a market success was because the word got around between parents and kids that the quality was bad. Also, there was competition - a school friend a broadly similar kit by another manufacturer, and his kit was very good - both of us had endless fun with it.
I've pretty much only used it for the videos you see on here, so I haven't got a great deal of experience with it. Most of the stuff I've tried I've got to work eventually. As you say, the coil design doesn't seem great.
Still more useful than just about anything a government does.
Thanks for the information. My personal favourite in Meccano was the Model Ford T in a 1969 edition of Meccano Magazine. I know it’s a long time ago but I never got round to building this as there was a shortage of info on it.
What type of wood are you using?
It's 3 mm thick birch plywood.
I had to come back and re-visit this one because I'm currently consolidating my Meccano room. Have you had a chance to play some tomb raider, or work on your crane? Haven't heard from you in a while.
Yes, I really need to get back to it. Life got busy with other stuff for a while, and I haven't had any massive bursts of inspiration to do anything.
Thanks man! Helped me and my son get connected. We greatly appreciate it.
Glad I could help!
4:25 Did you notice that the drive band began to slip?
A great channel. Whilst I've seen plenty of one-off Meccano parts which people have made from wood over the years, this is certainly the closest I have seen to a proper 'Meccano Set' made of wood - great job.
Thanks Neil, very kind of you.
Great videos and very educational. I'm new to Meccano. I've just purchased a very sorry looking for itself vintage scratch built Meccano showman traction engine. It's actually radio controlled with vintage looking RC technology. There's no transmitter to test the model and the power source is RC batteries which look old built into the trailer. Any ideas where I can get the old girl serviced and tested? I'm Birmingham based. Keep posting your fabulous videos. Kind regards. Mark
Thank you Mark, you're very kind. I'm afraid I have no knowledge whatsoever about RC systems, particularly old stuff. Good luck.
Thanks mate, definitely won't be buying this. Very sad how the Meccano name has been degraded if this is any example of the product.
I quite like the actual pieces, I think they help modernise it and give more options. The difficulty with this is the programmable bit and bluetooth connection, both of which don't work.
First one I've seen where you just hold the rollers in the place where the amount of bend is what you want. All the others including mine have a screw thread adjusting mechanism. Good idea! But mine doesn't have any loose angle brackets😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
If I made it again now it would probably be different!
Purchase link please
It's an old set, so you won't find it on Amazon or the like. You'll have to look on eBay.
Baldy. Glad I subscribed. You are a breath of fresh air on CZcams. So mush depressing stuff. You cheer me up with my favourite hobby, Meccano, and you are so skilful.
Thank you Michael, that's really kind of you.
A few words. Brilliant. Crackers. Fabulous. Thoroughly. Enjoyable. Lovely. Well. Done.😃
Thank you, your few words are much appreciated!
Nice video! Each mechanism deserves its own video with an application .You can make a Meccano Mechanism video library / playlist!
It's certainly a possibility. I'm enjoying exploring the mechanisms in my own models.
Nice video. Good to you see you back in action!
Thanks.
That's a Nice Model ! Are there regular Meccano fairs in England?
Yes, there are plenty. There is the main one in Skegness once a year, but there are about 10 regional societies which all hold meetings a couple of times a year. I'm a member of the 2 societies nearest to me, Sheffield Meccano Guild and North Eastern Meccano Society, so I go to about 4 meetings a year through them and then the main one in Skegness.
That is a nice build.
Yes, Matthew made a good job of getting it all running smoothly. I know from experience how fiddly that can be.
Thanks to Matthew Shaw for letting me video his model. Great job Matthew.
