      in your title you call it a ''useless'' machine but seeing as this is highly entertaining to watch, i'd argue that this machine isn't useless at all. it's use is to entertain anyone who watches this video , seeing this piece of engineering at work.

    This demonstrates why birds are never hit by propeller blades on windmills. The mechanical synchronization with the turntable keeps them out of harms way.

      Thank you Adrien. I've been at it pretty much solid for the last 2 weeks, if you count the filming in as well - I built it, then had to take it apart and rebuild it for the filming of it! Glad you liked it.

      Thanks. I've been working at this more or less solid for the last 2 weeks. Meccano is all about mechanisms after all, so I thought focussing in on them was a good idea. There is an entire YT topic of people rendering mechanisms, or doing them in lego, and it gets loads of views, so I thought I would have a try. It seems successful so far.
      Also give a nod to your do-nothing machine from a few months back, which I had in the back of my head whilst doing this!

      Hi SN. Fair comment, and thanks for watching. You've actually given me the idea for my next video - I wasn't sure what to do next, but I think a making of, FAQs and long run footage of the machine might appeal to some people who liked this video. I'll put that together over the next few days or so.

    As an aircraft mechanic with minor machining experience it triggers ocd.

      The parts are fine, however the motor shaft is slightly the wrong size. The parts are Meccano, and the motor is a non-Meccano motor. I did eventually put a brass sleeve on it to fill it out, but that was only for the later mechanisms where you can't really see the shaft anyway.

    how do the sack bag mechanism work?

    • @BaldyMakesStuff
      @BaldyMakesStuff  Před rokem +1

      Hi Matthew, sorry for the delay in coming back to you, this one slipped through. The mechanism works because as the arm rotates it varies the amount of cord available from the pivot point - the further away the pulley on the arm is from the other pulley, the more cord is drawn in. As it gets nearer to the pivot point it lets it out, and the rotation makes the movement automatically reverse.
      That's probably about as clear as mud!
