At the beginning of the year I wrote my entire owned tbr (physical + ebooks + audio) on a tbr bookmark. It was 50 books, so I’m not that far from the 0 tbr, I think. I’ve given myself the rule that if I want to buy a book it has to be because I’m reading it immediately and to try to use my library as much as possible for books I don’t own. This video has motivated me to try the chapter method, thank you

I like the idea of chapter reading. I have a physical collection of TBR (between 50-100, not including sequels). When I have the time, I will sit down with some of the older books on the TBR pile and read a few chapters from each and see what I like and I don't. I have a challenge of reading a Non-Fiction each month which is helping cut down some of my TBR (went from 20 NF to 15). Maybe if I put my pile into genres then I can get myself to read a thriller/crime each month too. Big well done on finishing your TBR pile! It must be such an incredible feeling of accomplishment!

I always have trust issues with books, hence my library being my best friend and buying books that I absolutely adore or want to continue the series of 🥰

I just think I regretted liking the first two books a little (even though the second one fell a little flat for me), but the last one... JESUS!

I stayed up til 2am last night finishing what ended up being my last (and 7th) June read, and this morning I woke up and bought the sequel, so I don't know what my July reading is going to look like but it might start with this new book. Who even knows.

It looks like everyone else also forgot what happened in TAP lol. Glad im not the only one. Also when all the plot elements are laid out like this, it kinda seems like a jumbled mess.

I'm posting a review this Friday, and it's spoiler free, but you still might want to avoid it until you've read the book yourself so it doesn't influence your reading experience. I'm so relieved you loved FENCE Volume 6. It would have been awkward for me if you hadn't. 😆 You cried during Wolfsong, Ravensong and Heartsong, but I can't wait to see how much you cry during Brothersong.

'You walked away from your father who is a literal crime boss. You can walk away from this 20-something who is just annoying.' - 😂 I never thought about it that way (in fact, I completely forgot about the texts - guess I blocked what I read of this book from my memory completely) but you're so right. I remember being frustrated that they all wanted the same thing but none of them were willing to say it, which didn't make any sense to me. Like, we got two books telling us self-interested all these people and their goals are, and now it comes down to them having to choose (or not) do this highly dangerous, but ultimately self-serving, experiment and suddenly they all have consciences and they're too moral to admit it. After two books of them being trapped together and unable to escape, this one could have been really interesting in the way they could have chosen to lock themselves together into this thing they wanted to do. And there could have been betrayal caught up in that! But no. Instead we got this terrible book in which it feels like Blake got so caught up in her own pretentiousness that she completely forgot who all these characters are. I'm still impressed you finished it. I got halfway through and that was more than enough for me. I'm just annoyed I took the time to reread book 1 and then read book 2 just to end up DNFing book 3.

I was so disappointed by this which is a shame as book one was five stars and two was four stars! This was two stars for me!

Basically yes. I felt that in previous books so much of the intrigue was because of the group dynamics, and in this book there was no group. Like she missed the mark completely.

I agree with everything you said!! This was my most anticipated release of the year and it became my biggest disappointment instead 😂 the only good thing about this book was that it made me realise how much I loved Parisa when she didn’t feel like Parisa anymore

It is a great book. I like the 2nd book a little more, but Chambers is fantastic at creating complex and believable characters.

Thanks for this explanation! One question - is there any specific book series that has more of this lore than others? I'm fairly new to his works, but I've read most of the Mistborn series (halfway through the 3rd book) and there doesn't seem to be a lot of this stuff cropping up.

I've literally just finished this book, and I largely agree with what you've said, but I disagree about it needing to be three books. I think the duology was enough and I don't think there was enough plot overall to sustain a third book. However, I think the pacing of the second book needed a lot of work. The book was very relationship focused for the first 250 pages, and then they had to cram the whole Night Empress plot into the last 150. If the balance had been better between the two, it would have been a more satisfying read. Instead, Chupeco decided to park the plot for a while to develop the romance instead of developing them together. Overall, it needed less romance and fewer sex scenes, and more plot development.

Couldn't watch, in case I ever want to read... so commenting instead, to help the algorithm!

I liked tress okay and I thought the frugal wizard was pretty good. Easy read. Now I think I might skip this one.

I'm feeling better now after watching your review. It's getting hard for me to continue this book. I love anime, so I thought this would be a perfect book for me, but as you said, that sudden change in the tone of the story because of the info dumping and in my case I'm not liking much Yumi as a character 😅 I hope to find something good before I finish it. Thanks for your review, I just subscribed for your honest review and with an actual explanation and not just vibes about the book.
