I wish the movie would have reflected more of the reality of the moment instead of going for an adversarial take. I really would have liked to see how Art Howe accepted this and how the interactions were more genuinely from the team. As others have noted this team was loaded with talent and you have to be to win 20 in a row(especially strong starting pitching) and a 100 win season. The fact that some of the important pieces rejected the way they were portrayed distracts from the movie IMO

Cincinnati Red Joe Nuxhall was the youngest player ever to appear in a Major League game, pitching 2⁄3 of an inning for the Reds on June 10, 1944, at the age of 15 years. He did not pitch again in the majors until 1952.

The original 1951 Angels in the Outfield is a sweet little comedy starring Paul Douglas and Janet Leigh about the Hapless Pittsburgh Pirates. It was U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower's favorite movie. The Angels are never shown. It has members of the Pirates in the movie and 15% owner Bing Crosby is interviewed about his team's change of fortune. Ty Cobb also makes an appearance. it is nothing like the awful and barely watchable Disney version.

The Babe sucks big time. It is so bad It makes the former Yankee bat boy William Bendix buffoonish The Babe Ruth Story movie look good. The movie Cobb also sucks big time and is chock full of lies based on a book written by a forger and defrauder. His books have been have been discredited and he made things up about Cobb. The movie was a also a flop like The Babe.

why are contracts from the 80s given values of over 100m? are you using the same $/war value for all the extensions? shouldnt the $/war value be adjusted per year / decade / era ?

New Ball players today are not even interesting, they celebrate in the guys face instead of just going to work like the old school players, you never saw Mantle flip his bat unless it was out of disgust, the game today is too hyped, too expensive and boring been to game and not spent 300 bucks? It's ridiculous, won't watch anymore "modern" baseball the game has been ruined just into nostalgia and old teams now take in an amateur game screw the MLB, the owners still collude today, how else could the best pitcher in the game t6oday get ignored by all of MLB Trevor Bauer

When Willie Randolph and Craig Biggio have almost identical WAR and therefore were the same guy, WAR sucks. I saw Willie Randolph’s entire career. I saw Craig Biggio’s entire career. Not the same. Sabermetrics is everything that’s been wrong with baseball in the last 25 years. There I said it. How do you like me now ?

29:58 Scales potentially being pinch hit for (and his subsequent HR) were set up with a couple of scenes. O’Farrell first threatens him with going back to Triple-A if he doesn’t start hitting. Then after he pops out to end the game against the Tigers because Billy thought he had great power to the gaps, Corning says that of course he likes Billy because he’s the only person in the world who thinks he can hit 😂😂.

Globalists: Anyhow, soccer is seen as an international sport and would be promoted and the traditional sport of American baseball would be de-emphasized and possibly eliminated because it might be seen as too American. And he discussed eliminating this. one's first reaction would be - well, they pay the players poorly and they don't want to play for poor pay so they give up baseball and go into some other sport or some other activity. But he said that's really not how it works. Actually, the way to break down baseball would be to make the salaries go very high. The idea behind this was that as the salaries got ridiculously high there would be a certain amount of discontent and antagonism as people resented the athletes being paid so much, and the athletes would begin more and more to resent among themselves what other players were paid and would tend to abandon the sport. And these high salaries also could break the owners and alienate the fans. - From: New Order of Barbarians

16:25 As someone who’s done pro sound design, I’m thinking the decision to throw distortion all over the crowd was probably a really dumb but intentional artistic choice. Like “ooh this is what the crowd sounds like to Wesley Snipes because he’s scaaared of DeNiiiiro!” It just added one more layer of noise, though. I’ll say this about Tony Scott: the guy never half-assed his half-assed ideas.

I take the side of the owners. You’re “paid” to play baseball… keep your mouth shut and take what you are given. “ the love of money is the root of all evil” that works both ways… the players are just as bad and greedy now as the owners… baseball is a great game but that’s all it is just a “game”…. Both owners and players need to grow up….

Short summary view: The MLBPA is undoubtedly the victors of the last half-century or so. However, the last 20 years have seen the owners get smarter and the MLBPA become more complacent it seems. Still, MLBPA is getting some of what they want and the owners are still raking in the revenue. Things could continue to turn though, if the owners push even harder at the end of 2026.

  • @isthiswherewecamein6130

I couldn't agree with you more about Curt Flood getting into the Hall. And I would argue that he did more for baseball than even Jackie did. Cause while Jackie was the key figure for breaking down the color barrier, what he did was just for black players. While what Flood did helped out EVERY player!!! How many guys in baseball history can say, "My legacy was, I made the game better for not just every baseball player, but players in other professional sports!! From the day I fought, til the last day that pro sports are played, I've improved EVERY athletes life!!" Now to me, THATS A LEGACY!! One that not even the great Bambino can even lay clam to. And, before people get their panties in a bunch over what I said about Jackie. I'm not downplaying what Jackie accomplished, I'm saying, even as great as what Jackie did, Floods was THAT MUCH greater!! Cause it benefited all. How many people can say, ya, I've improved the lives of thousands and thousands of people's, who now have generational wealth. To pass down through their families for several generations!! THATS what Curt Flood did. And if the Baseball Writers Association can't see that, then I CAN!! And I'll hereby nominate Curt Flood into the CZcams Fans Baseball Hall of Fame! And, he's also hereby passed and Inducted in the inaugural class. Along with Babe, Cobb,Spahn, Lou Gehrig, Jackie, Gibson, Mickey, Joe, Ted, Clemens, Clemente, Christy, and Rose (as player not manager, obviously). Any chsnges/additions I need to make?
