Oh no, are you saying Dalonega is about to have alot of growth and traffic? I was looking at Dalonega when I retire. I live in Henry County and the traffic had gotten horrible. There are industrial parks all over the place and it's definitely lost the small town perks. Do you see that happening there? Ty.

In Hiawassee Blue Ridge EMC has fiber throughout Towns county. When we moved here 2 years ago it was established in the front yard in a cable box. Called them to have it installed and they said it would take 2 months before they could have a technician out to install. Come to find out fiber is not something anyone can do. At the time Blue Ridge subcontracts to fiber specialist and that’s why it takes so long. We went with Windstream. They came out the next day and have had excellent service. Thought you would mention the wineries in Dahlonega.

Really fun format and I appreciate a snapshot of what you can get for different price points. And, if it makes you feel any better, my Irish accent is far worse than yours (doesn't help having a flat Florida accent). Cheers!

Towns County, Georgia, which includes the city of Hiawassee and Young Harris. Construction of many mountain homes for the wealthy retiring should realize that if their home catches fire, it will burn to the ground. No firetruck can make it up these mountains. There are many million dollar homes in the mountains here in Towns County with beautiful views but with no fire protection. Consider that before you move to the mountains of North Georgia.

Moved to SE GA about a year ago. I love it here. I love the very short number of cold days. It’s beautiful here and not nearly so crowded as N GA.

Everything you are describing is pretty much north central Florida if you are coming from south florida. There's lots of country and backwoods to find land or a cheaper living environment. You'll have a well and septic. Hard freeze in winter. 20 minute drive to the nearest city or town. No recycling pick up but there's trash pick up. You'll get cooler weather and more forecast days than south fl. People dont drive like lunatics either. Lots of gun owners and southern accents. Quiter as well. Downsides are yes Florida is a jungle on a giant sand bar. You'll need to maintain your property, unless you lllive in a smaller city.

You no longer need a concealed carry license in Georgia. Georgia now recognizes the Constitution again. These are all good reasons why I live in North Georgia. Liberals stay away. We do not want your scummy, pervert kind here.

We live in Decatur and I'm so over everything. The traffic, high cost, crowded, etc. I've been looking at places WAY outside (more north-ish or east-ish). But everywhere still seems so expensive and I've even been looking far away at jobs and whatnot just to get an idea but it's so hard to figure out where would be a nice place or if it's even realistic for us to be there. I told my Husband we need to write a list of things we can and cannot deal with when trying to find where to live lol. I don't know how else to go about it.

About $100,000 overpriced in most of N. ga these days… I’m a Florida native, looking to make my Exodus within the next 2yrs. I spent part of my childhood growing up in Atlanta, with vacation time in the Ga mtns. Naturally, that area is the only place I feel I would want to relocate to, as it already feels like home to me. Particularly my husband and I are drawn to Dahlonega because of it’s small college mountain town feel and friendly people. However, we are both still working. I am in healthcare and he is a contractor though, so we feel these careers can take us anywhere. Dahlonega is growing and should be able to provide some quiet newcomers jobs. Would love to chat with you on the phone sometime soon, to get your thoughts and ideas for how to plan our exit from Florida and find something quiet yet affordable in Dahlonega area.

I moved to Hiawassee 2 years ago. As far as medical is concerned be prepared to drive south to Gainesville. The local hospital will patch you up and helicopter you to Gainesville. That goes for any other specialist that you might have to see. For dental I travel 7 miles north to Hayesville North Carolina. Restaurants in this town are below average. The best part about Hiawassee is the lake and hiking trails. Lake Chatuge extends from Georgia to North Carolina. Hiawassee population doubles in the summer due to the activity on the lake and the fairgrounds. Campgrounds for vacationers are everywhere around the lake. If you are renting a home in the mountains be prepared for steep drives with single wide roads. All wheel drive may be required to get to the top. Enjoy!
