How sad is it that you are already assuming that David Copperfield is done, that his magic career is over because some women accused him of something. You haven't even given him the legal right he has to a fair trial or anything, you just assume he's guilty. I have a question. Why wait so long to come forward? It's been proven over and over again that there are a lot of scummy people (yes, even women) who try to take advantage of people with lots of money by bringing false cases against them years after the fact so that it's nearly impossible to have any kind of effective defense other than calling them out as liars. I don't know if you've ever been falsely accused of something by a woman (I have), but it's absolutely infuriating, knowing that you are completely innocent and also knowing that everyone is going to assume you are completely guilty. Luckily, the judge we had was reasonable enough to see through my accuser's lies, and to realize that she was a compulsive liar. That doesn't always happen. If Copperfield is found to be guilty of these things, THEN you can say "Throw the bum out!" or whatever. Until that time, he deserves the due process he's entitled to. I'm sure if it were you that you would want the same consideration.

As an criminologist, one who studies crime, I am extremely skeptical of any accusations being made years later. In addition, many of those in the articles states that they did not feel anything was inappropriate until years later; that is a problem. Furthermore, David is innocent until proven guilty and i see there it nothing that to date have been found to lend any credibility to guilt. Finally, he was accused and under federal investigation back in early 2000s where the accuser was found to have fabricated the assault allegation. Not. Saying all famous people are not capable of raping others, but there must be more than hanging stories later. The article had at least two that did not want their name to be used, prop all because they would have to payback nda settlement they were given and don’t want to have to pay the premium penal that goes with it!

Maybe I am mistaken. But anything you publish in magic is automatically public domain. Anyone can create their own version of a published effect. Just looka t the ammount of "out of this world" or "Triumph" Vernon never gave anything as public domain. And all of his effectss are taught. If seems more like a publicity thing by D and D to create sales in their old material. If it was honest, they would make their materiall free for download. Its still a positive thing-

"did he know what was going on" - well, I read the wiki entry on Epstein and skimmed a few articles and still have no clue what was going on. A lot of vague stuff, written in a very sensationalized manner but no facts about what was actually going on. I'm reminded about the "rape" case involving Julian Assange and the outrage that ensured. I barely read those outrage articles but read the full transcript of the police interview with the victim and knew that people just made up that nonsense about rape. People tend to make up so much horrible stuff in their minds when they aren't presented facts (and sometimes even if they are)...

Thank you for talking honestly about Copperfield. This is the biggest piece of magic-related news this year, and if magicians as a whole do not speak up about it, it will only serve to hurt the public's perception of magicians and magic. We need to speak up about it, disavow him, and let magic move forward without Copperfield as a guidepost. As far as Dan & Dave, I'm honestly stoked. This is a huge move for them, and I can only hope that other authors of magic take note of the response and consider doing similar. Keeping secrets among magicians and only allowong those who can afford it to join only hurts magic long-term, and having open and free access to materials is a huge boon overall. Also, fwiw, about the one-month experiment idea, if you want to do something similar, as far as I know it's possible to declare _certain works_ as public domain and not others, though check various resources about it and don't trust a random commenter before doing anything lol

Copperfield isn´t going to step away. The article from the Guardian is very well documented. So except if one of the most serious newspaper on Earth got it all wrong: he´s going behind bars for the rest of his life and it seems it`s long overdue (and the Moon vanish is definitely not happening as it was planned in February. Somebody else could pick up the idea but the trick is tainted now, I think it´ll take a decade before somebody else tries it). Congratulations to Dan and Dave for doing the right thing. Most of magic is public domain already (sleight of hands cannot be patented, most methods are a zillion years old or variation on such ideas and except for apps pretty much no magic gimmick or prop reaches the threshold to be patented. Moreover magic being deception, you can expose just like you expose any scam and deception).

Yeah, I saw a trick and figured that it was done like this, thanks for confirming. I think that guy also had a smaller card behind the main card that he could move around, to hide up some holes, because he could flick the card and four holes opened at once. Very neat trick together.

Awwwh! Pretty sure by "NOW" you know how the silver "coin" dish works (LOL). I've used it a few times and folks are generally impressed. I'm glad you got a good haul of products. I do find a few gems from time to time. Some of my 1st magic purchase came from wish before I started going to Murphy and Penguin.

About the switch Brynolf & Ljung did: they weren't performing for regular schmucks like me, they were performing for top notch magicians, so they had to adapt their misdirection accordingly. I don't think it's cheating or not believing in their effect as you put it, just another level of misdirection that Penn and Teller fell for.

Enjoy the video. You may have better luck getting magic to review with more in depth reviews. While I like the video, I’d prefer a review on the instructions as well.

The reason why P&T give away some trophies more easily or even despite them not being fooled is actually pretty easy: The n°1 rule of the show is: every episode needs to have (at least) one winner. Episodes without a winner is bad for ratings, because people turn off the show if nothing is happening. They actually had "fool-less" episodes in the early seasons every now and then and it was a problem. So during taping of a season, when they realize they have too little foolings, P&T need to "adjust" their judgment a little bit to ensure they get enough trophies out for the tv show to survive. And of course, they prefer to give it out to people that deserve it even if they didn't fool them, like Shin Lim, Richard Turner oder David daOrtiz.
