Yeah fair comment and I’m definitely no hydrodynamics expert these are just the generally held understandings of the concepts. I guess it’s like an aeroplane too though the air is everywhere around the plane but the way it flows though the wings creates a pressure differential that causes lift. Same with fins ok they cause drag too but they are in the water and the difference in the foils creates “lift” or drive. If you bottom turned without fins in bot sure if you could leverage the same drive even if you had a more free down the line speed. Again I’m not really sure myself and neither are most people but those are the general documented concepts. Hope that helps. Cheers 😊

If you push a boat through water it directs the water flow and causes it to lift too. I know everything is in the water but the body has a speed that it moves through the water and that is what causes the interaction i think but again. No hydrodynamics experts. Cheers

Hi. Depends on your weight age ability etc but if your a genuine beginner in small waves you should probably be starting with something more like a 7’10” fun board or mini mal that’s beginner friendly and ride that as your only board for at least a year. You will get more waves and progress much quicker that way. Something like the puddle jumper might be good for someone that’s making the move from that point to intermediate as a first shorter board. PK personally but would probably depend on your style and the waves you surf. The V3 has a little more rocker and more narrow nose but still a pretty wide tail rippers seem to like them more. I like the PK better for its versatility wider nose flatter rocker. Sold that to my friend and he’s loving it too.

Yeah the fish is more of a fishy ride as obvious as that may sound probably a bit more versatile too and heavier and more traditional in the bigger sizes. The super blob is more like a smaller wave board generally made in the lighter and more modern construction. Can be a bit less grippy too with the wide tail and no fish cut out. Both fun boards though. Maybe get a demo and see which you like best

Sorry for the late reply. Yeah definitely thunderbolt if I could. Think they are a bit note durable and better flex. Timber tech feels stiffer and a little heavier but some of that older ones could be prone to delam issues if not made right and looked after well. Thunderbolt is lighter and more lively. Cheers.

Yeah those were nice boards. They could be a little stiff but still good. The new Thunderbolt boards are good but limited stuff available in shorter boards and very expensive now.

Hi sorry got the late reply. Yeah PU construction is usually a bit more steady getting into windy waves than the lighter export boards. The party crasher is a really good all round higher volume big guys short board kind of design so really versatile for an intermediate rider. Cheers.

There are a few good people around. Would probably depend on your current level. If you are beginner learn to surf sumner are very good group lessons. If you want private or are more advanced I’m sure Aaron from learn to surf or one of the young guys would do one on one. I think Jack Tyro sometimes does lessons too. Cheers

Hi Daniel. Yeah that’s a tough one. Those are two of my favourite boards. Not ridden the Hi4 but really like the look of it. It’s gonna be so subjective to your waves and riding it’s hard to say but I think you have the right thoughts. I had been riding the special T in thunderbolt red before I got injured and use that for most waves and really enjoy it. Find it paddles well and performs well. Doesn’t feel that much like a signed fin. Suspect the Hi4 has a little more curve and a little more rocker so could suit a slightly more powerful or sectiony wave. Hard to say not having ridden it. The nose js bigger on the Hi4 too though. I think both could be good choices so probably trust your own judgment as sounds like you know what you want and understand the differences. Cheers

Yeah I thought the fins were in a bit of a funny spot on the beyond myself. Found it could be a little grabby if the waves didn’t have much power or shape. Lot of people seem to find it better in bigger waves than smaller waves. On the seaside itself I much preferred the split keel to the machado seaside quads. Everyone I know really likes the seaside quad apart from me. No idea why

Hi hard to say just on pure projection but the bean bag is definitely a more grovelly board and better at those tiny junky waves. It will flow in the pocket and dance around nicely. The RNF had more rocker and less width front and back so prefers a little more wave. Bean bag is the best grovel board I have had and the original sweet potato was also great. Cheers.

Is that in FCS or Futures. Fcs you could give the stretch SF4 a go if you want speed. The mayhem large are decent too if you just want more lively but don’t need too much if any extra drive.

Hi just had a look at the hooker fin. That’s less area than the ci and machado thought it looks like he also has some others that are similar area and shape to the ci. I would say the ci and machado would both add a little hold. I think I would lean a little towards the ci myself. I think That machado is a touch bigger and more upright but the way the ci has sweep and back cut it’s probably a little more suited to hold and release while still providing so one responsiveness. The machado be a little more down the line speed oriented but since you want more speed control than speed creation I think the CI be be the go. Keels aren’t ideal for bigger waves for me personally but the ci is definitely more designed in that kinda way. Cheers

Hi mate. I kept both for a long time but just hd a second spine surgery so sold both just before that. There both excellent boards. You can’t go too wrong with either. Probably let your preference for epoxy or PU or if you like your boards a bit heavier and more planted drive your decisions or even if something pops up second hand at a good price. The two I had were different lengths and volumes too so even my experience and outlook probably a little swayed. The retro rides a touch more retro and a little less slippery really depends on your style. If you like longer turns with good speed carry the retro is a little more of that and the seaside will perform a little more bit again all relative to what size you get. Both are excellent boards. Hi mate. Yeah it’s obviously not going to quite be a longboard in terms of early in and glide but yeah I remember having lots of fun on smaller days. You can almost nose ride it. So yeah definitely could be on your radar as a mid length for a range of waves. Turns good and good wave count. I think it’s fairly high volume but that suited me. Hi Great detailed feedback really appreciate that. Hope it helps others too..Not sure if it was you I was talking to but sold mine as I had to have another back operation so cleared out a lot of boards till I work out where I am at and what I can do after recovery. It was a friend that bought it though and he said exactly the same. He's able to use it in everything from smaller to bigger waves and finds it's smoothing his surfing out and a good option for when the wave doesn't have quite the shape for his shorter board here which is often. I think the Outlier would be a good one from our local wave too from everything I hear very flat faced a lot of the time so we dont need much rocker and do need help to get in and make sections.I agree too does everything nicely as a single with sides I think that was the main intention of the fin set up and good hold. For me it was just a little harder to duck dive than I was expecting which was quite surprising. For everything else it was really on point as an all rounder your kinda rarely on the "wrong board" for the conditions when it does most things well. Hi mate. Yeah I was keen on a Mid 6 but thought the 7 was a bit refined lower volume and quite a bit of rocket for me but would make an excellent “sensible and conservancy ” step up im short and like to be able to duck dive my boards too so 7 is about the limit of length I can do that easily on. The 7’6” mid 6 looks quite different to the 7 more volume and a bit more width so doesn’t look as blade like. I actually sold my ova. A friend bought it and he’s loving it for exactly what you said. He can ride it in small and bigger waves and likes the fin options. He’s in pretty good shape and taller too so seems to suit him well. I found it a little hard to duck dive think the nose is a little wider than I thought so even though it’s thin it was a bit harder to sink than the one I made myself and that’s much thicker. If you think it rip suit you it probably will it’s pretty versatile nice to ride lots of options and the thunderbolt tech is great. Especially if your getting a bargain price. Hope that helps.

Hi. Not ridden the Parallax sorry but this one catches waves a bit better than the 9’0” Special T I slightly prefer the 9’0” special T myself as I’m short so find the special T more responsive at not too big a sacrifice on wave catching. If you we’re talking the special T in a 9’6” it may paddle better than the 9’4” but again not ridden both to compare sorry. The Haven did definitely add a bit of wave catching ability compared to the other 9’0” boards I had too to be fair. I was catching more small waves more easily. Just that bit more trim power. I find there is quite a difference between 9’0” and 9’6” boards in both the way they catch waves and ride. I always find 9’6” a little bigger than I want personally but if I were closer to 6ft than 5’6” it might be a different story. I like the 9’0” Special T as a do it all board myself for the local conditions. Cheers.

I have the cream colored 7' outlier ands its incredible in small-medium / mushy waves. After my first session I started calling it the Cream Dream and ride it about 50% of the time. Almost like an ultimate groveler but also handles larger waves when they are rolling or off a point. Once it gets punchy or powerful it tends to slide out on the bottom turns just because of how flat the rocker is. 1-4 foot it catches everything and turns really well for how long it is.

Exactly...so basically perfect for Dave's local conditions most of the time. I think he would love it. My mate and I who have one both say...never leave home without it. @@Ironlung330

Hi mate. Yeah not too bad now thanks. Had a second disk prolapse in my back which required surgery so that’s taken me out for a while. Be a while longer before I can try to surf again too just playing it safe and getting myself back to normal life first. Cheers. Sold a lot of my shorter boards now too. 46 plus a couple of back surgeries I think it’s time to accept that it’s ok to let the board do a lot if the work so probably be the longboard and maybe a mid length ride here and there for me. Don’t need many boards anymore.

Totally agree with the longer board sentiments. I’ve got a Harley Ingleby longboard quiver and have no interest in going back. I tried the HI4, loved it, and found some really good deals on secondary market. Hihp is awesome in bigger (mostly slopey) surf. Diamond drive is a dinger too. I might sell the HI4 and just keep those two. Haven’t decided. But I should t keep all of em! Lol I hope your back is doing better. Surgery and recovery sucks. I too have back issues. Get RFA done about once a year. Multiple herniated disks. Will end up needing surgery eventually. So I get it. Back surgery is scary. And recovery is definitely not immediate. Would love an update vid. You have a lot of fans that enjoy your content and rambling. One of the most down to earth reviewers and it’s very refreshing. I wish you well man. And a recovery that puts you better than where you started.

Personally liked the psycho killer better as it’s a bit more suited to being an all rounder and I like quads but there both good boards and in a similar category. Definitely rate both models but prefer the lost for me personally as it will ride as a quad or a thruster and handle a good range of waves and just really forgoing and does everything well. Hi Tim. Think I may have commented on this a few times. It’s a little hard to detail everything but summing up I would say I prefer the psycho personally as an all rounder for me as it will go in a wider range of conditions however I would say the Uber would have the edge on performance slightly in its ideal conditions. Basically the psycho is a little more parallel outline and slightly more tail area so will generate a bit more speed in the smaller stuff but also grips well in the bigger waves. The Uber xl I found great in say shoulder to a bit overhead for me personally and it would probably perform a little better for those who can harness that squash tail performance. I found it a little harder to keep going in a smaller wave and a little less grippy in a bigger wave than the psycho. Construction I personally prefer the grip and sureness of PU for waves head and up and enjoy the lively feel of the carbon wraps in smaller waves but again that can be a very personal choice and I was riding high volume to weight so the EPS boards could be a bit too corky sometimes. Carbon wraps are definitely one of the better feeling eps epoxies out there though. Hope that helps. Cheers.

Hi Mick. You will be pleased to hear this is definitely more of a Wingnut Nose rider thing than a rider thing. The Wingnut does have a very specific sweet spot. I used to say it’s more fussy than most of my shorter boards. Good news was I did get used to it eventually so once you have it dialled your good but yeah I would say it’s a very sensitive sweet spot and does suit peeling walls a little more than peaky waves. The special T is definitely more forgiving and easier to recommend to more people across a wider wave range but the Wingnut does have a pretty special and unique feel. Hope that helps.
