I was listening to a podcast about Godzilla Minus One, and they started by discussing how the original Godzilla symbolized America and was anti-American and they were saying it in a juvenile manner. That made me roll my eyes and stop listening. Where did that interpretation come from, and why do you think it’s faulty? Also, personally, I think it’s really cool that a Godzilla movie is being talked about as destroying Hollywood, even if some of the videos are bad.
My favourite Godzilla design other than Earth's but feel the legs can be smaller Can give the list of your favourite Godzilla designs pls
@@ethanngyongsenstpatricksch6617 definitely would do a favorite list though I know myself my favorite design past my top 3 change constantly
Unnatural History's suggestions aren't bad, but they're really more about worldbuilding than an actual direction for the series. Also I believe the reason Wingard's movies don't address the mass awakening is because that would have felt too similar with what King of the monsters already does with the MUTOs attacks. I really struggle to see how they could have added more and made it relevant to the plot. We do have things like titan bunkers and titan insurances though.
It will never not bother me that I didn't have enough time to hash out all my arguments. But maybe in the future I'll be in the sequel
@@Blackarooni What kind of arguments were you hoping to hash out?
I also want to say when it comes to the titans I thinks it not too hard to buy the titan radiation is just different and is not harmful to humans thats just the reality of the monsterverse. They could explain more or better but I don't it's not that important especially in the long run.
Godzilla vs Kong: "It's the most colossal fight in history" This debate: "Hold my beer" Jokes aside, kinda sad that everything post Kong: Skull Island still doesn't really have a general consensus.
Not necessarily as bad of a thing as you might think. This does open the way for more unique and different perspectives to be heard and presented.
@@vaggos2003 I get what you're saying, but it also gets tiresome after a while. Only made it worse by the fact Toho's projects reached a consensus much quicker.
@@matteomastrodomenico1231 Uh, if that makes you feel any better, Minus One managed to find new ways to fuck up discourse about Godzilla and kaiju.
@@vaggos2003 Oh right. Hurray...
@@matteomastrodomenico1231 Yep. Makes you all the more excited for the discourse of tfe next two movies and two second seasons of shows.
this design and the evolved goji design is my favorites
This stream brought up a lot of interesting points for us all in fhe audience to consider. I will have to rewatch the movie myself eventually to really come to a conclusion. I will say that there are a few things in this movie that, at this point, I cannot ignore about Emma Russell. I remember Dougherty's commentary track vindicating Emma to a degree greater than the panelists here (I could be wrong, and technically the film's evidence would be more important, but if Dougherty defends Emma's outlook more than its defenders or the fim itself, that would be a flaw on the film's part for failing to portray the creator's intended message). Going along with that, I do not think the film and characters gave a good enough counterargument to Emma, and when you couple that with the genocide that happens not being the genocide she intended, it still feels like the film is advocating more for her policies, especially because, Serizawa isn't able to give a full counterargument and ends up compromising his morals (in destroying ancient evidence of coexistence, as for using the nuke, that is his character arc in this film) anyways. Now, other IPs do get to condemn characters for genocide without necessarily defeating the idea satisfactorily (AoT season 4), but the end credits of KOTM actually show a world more in line with Emma's than Serizawa's (rather than being Godzilla's pets or more accurately worshipping and feeding Godzilla the way Serizawa and the ancient civilization show is right, Godzilla and the monsters are fixing the world in the ways we would want without our cooperation while we just hunker down and enjoy the monsters around us, which is Emma's vision) All that said, I will have to concede that KOTM holds up better than GxK
1:57:07 Monarch has had cave paintings of Ghidorah fighting Godzilla and requiring Godzilla to team up since the 70s. Nobody knowing about the hierarchy or Destroyer/Protector question with him is fine, but the other unknowns make it impossible for Emma to be anything other than colossally stupid in releasing him first the way I see it. He's the biggest one, even if you don't see the cave paintings, so he will be hard to take down if he goes rogue. The panelists bring up that he was meant as a distraction for Godzilla and Monarch. I'm not sure about that because Mothra was released as a distraction already to make sure they could. The panelists also bring up that Ghidorah is an alpha Titan. I don't remember if Monarch would know that yet, but Emma should have very little reason to think they need an alpha Titan to distract Godzilla when she has seen that two weaker Titans in the MUTOs almost killed him. The film never shows that she wants him to dead so an alpha that cave paintings showed required a teamup is strange. More importantly, hard to control. She's a scientist so she shouldn't be so reckless. She later says she wanted a more controlled genocide, so they shouldn't be that reckless It gets worse I think wirh the idea that her plan hinges on the Titans releasing radiation to heal the Earth, when that's not true of every Titan. Yeah, Kong doesn't (but Behemoth does, which means it is arbitrary). Whether or not she can observe that while Titans are sleeping is important but unclear (Behemoth is in a lush environment as he would make the Amazon later, but Scylla is not in a frozen area like she would restore the ice caps). So here's the important thing. She wants Ghidorah to restore the Earth the way she wants. He is sleeping in Antarctica, meaning either he is changing the environment of Antarctica to be the way it is (in which case don't release him) or he isn't (in which case don't release him) or he isn't right now and we can't predict how he will later (in which case just release ones like Behemoth that you can predict). I think the comparison to Thanos is imprecise. Both have stupid plans and both believe their plans will work, but Thanos doesn't act in logical contradiction to his own plan based on his other attributes. If my logic isn't sound, I would appreciate correction.
1956 > 2019
Yall defended KoTM as hard as I wish I could GVK/gxk. Admirable
Hopefully that could help you on how to defend those movies better in the future.

For as heated as this got, I had an absolute blast discussing my favorite movie ever made. Thanks for doing this Now, to explain in exact detail why Godzilla Singular Point is worse than Godzilla '98...
Proof that my influence continues to grow.
The problem with Zilla isn’t that he has a horizontal pose. If you look at monsters like Deviljho, you can see how that pose works. The problem with Zilla is that he has longer arms than a goddamn Spinosaurus but he’s skinnier than a megatherapod. Not even dromeasaurs have such skinny proportions. The main point of Godzilla’s design is to invoke power, and the invulnerability to conventional weapons.
This is why I like monsters like Anguirus and Nergigante. In a world where most of the strongest monsters have flashy abilities and weapons, they just throw hands and hope for the best
Good thing they didn't make it zilla jr vs gorosaurus
I like both kajius. The 1998 godzilla had more of an advantage due to the terrain and video. But being realistic, zilla would win either way only because of his speed. Goro was given a faster speed to make the video longer
Goro could react to and not die from ghidorahs gravity beam. Ghidroahs gravity beams would one shot 98 based on durability. Goro also could bring down showa ghidroah with a kick and matched ghidorahs strength vs Godzilla who was knocked down
Well... this was fun

The Gryphon would make a Great Monster Villain for the Monsterverse.
Sooo... I guess this confrontation kinda ended up being pointless. :/
Not really I feel that it’s important that the quiet part was said out loud and much of what was addressed in the last few videos was addressed.
If you remove the camera shake then all the impact is gone. Using the camera shake as a way to mimic an actual impact is lazy, and they use the sound design in a similar way
After watching this I put that in my workout playlist. Thank you

Godzilla Final Wars was my first Godzilla movie. Quite the movie to start with right? I saw 1954 at a pretty young as well. Even as a kid, I knew the original was probably the best one, even if it wasn’t my favorite. I loved Shin Godzilla too at a young age. This discussion of silly vs dark Godzilla has always confused me. I say that as long as you execute it well with a well written story, then any tone can work. I personally think that a lot, if not most of the Godzilla movies are probably not very good, but I still love them because Godzilla is always fun and endearing to watch.
24:00 taking yourself seriously doesn't mean you succeeded at being a serious film. Final wars is just dumb, sorry.
This is word salad. Are you trying to say serious doesn't make something good? Because in that case, sure. 2014 is the worst Godzilla movie we had since 98. But it's still by all objective measures, a serious film.
@@DaikaijuSpaceZilla its not word salad. You just don't understand anything i said and honestly I dont even get how you got where you got, you can not compare 2014 to 2004 and expect me to know what mental gymnastics you are doing. Edit: Just to be done with this, FW isnt a serious movie, and whatever you thought i meant is not at all what I meant
@@lautaroasis60 I didn't compare 2014 to Final Wars. I use it as an example on why serious doesn't make something better if that's what you were TRYING to say. Nice strawman tho lol As for Final Wars, I don't entirely agree with Zim it takes itself seriously. Like yeah, it does in spots. But it also has a semi tongue and cheek tone with jokes, and balls to the walls action. What you said tho was "just because it takes itself seriously doesn't mean it's a serious movie". That's word salad lol
@@DaikaijuSpaceZilla Im not in the mood do ill just give sn example. The room: its a movie so bad its good. The movie thinks its good, it thinks its very emotional and even though it thinks it is, its not. Its funny. Its dumb. Its so bad its good. Final wars can take itself seriously as much as it wants but that doesn't make it a serious movie, because its a dumb movie. Its stupid, and as much as it doesn't want to be, it can change it. By the way, im sorry if i was rude or passive aggressive before, its the shittiest day of the week so far and every week things just get worse so im always angry lately.
@@lautaroasis60 Probably should have just said "so bad it's good" then. As for you being "rude"? I don't mind. I was being a bit of a smart ass to be honest. But I do have to ask, what makes Final Wars a "bad movie"? Like yeah, it's got balls to the walls action and sci Fi plots, but that doesn't make it dumb. Just makes it escapism. It's really not anymore goofy than Tarento and Robert Rodriguez films. In fact, it's in the same exact zone as movies like Kill Bill. Just it's done through Godzilla. Ryuhei Kitamura is basically the Japanese equivalent to those two film makers.
Godzilla 54...so silly...ha haaa... 😬
Brace yourself, this guy doesn’t take criticism well.
Oh, so he IS like Paul Dano's Riddler just as Toku-punk said in the chat?
@@TheC-Monster pretty much
Good to know
l excited to go back and rewatch this. I had fun for the little I was on.
What a wonderful stream!
SAY HIS WORDS
I prefer Godzilla because he is a stoic sage of impossibly high standards. He lives solely to work, and has no social needs. He doesnt even need to eat. He is entirely self sufficient and never feels sorry for himself. He sleeps and fights. He has no remorse. He has no guilt. He cannot be shammed. He's territorial, and has a kind of hyper masculine primal rage. He has total confidence in himself. Even Kong doubts himself a bit sometimes. Godzilla never doubts himself at all. Kong has limitless bravery. Godzilla has no fear. So to the average person, Godzilla is kind of a Mary Sue that's unrelatable. But to me, he's a marvel to elicit awe and wonder. The fact that Godzilla is reptilian and so different from humans makes his defence of humans even more admirable
