It certainly makes sense why Kong would be more popular to the average person than Godzilla and both monsters have their places in the kaiju/giant monster genre overall.

I prefer Godzilla because he is a stoic sage of impossibly high standards. He lives solely to work, and has no social needs. He doesnt even need to eat. He is entirely self sufficient and never feels sorry for himself. He sleeps and fights. He has no remorse. He has no guilt. He cannot be shammed. He's territorial, and has a kind of hyper masculine primal rage. He has total confidence in himself. Even Kong doubts himself a bit sometimes. Godzilla never doubts himself at all.
    Kong has limitless bravery.
    Godzilla has no fear.
So to the average person, Godzilla is kind of a Mary Sue that's unrelatable. But to me, he's a marvel to elicit awe and wonder. The fact that Godzilla is reptilian and so different from humans makes his defence of humans even more admirable

And here I was Just gonna say “first come first serve” but those are some fine points made. Kong certainly has a place in my heart for his domination of his setting and way to show mood but of course I got a greater love for Godzilla. Of course, it was monster like king kong that helped Godzilla be a thing in the first place!

I've loved both King Kong and Godzilla since the 70's. I will never understand why some are surprised that this will always be the fight of all fights. 1962 classic showed the 2 most powerful Titans collide in the best Cinema battle in history. King Kong vs Godzilla is actually a famous analogy between 2 equals. The 2 are equals due to being the ONLY 2 LARGE MONSTER CINEMA ICONS in Movie history. I do notice a large number of young Godzilla fans that can't fathom that Kong is on Godzilla's level. The synopsis of GvK was "The 2 most powerful forces of nature collide in a battle for the ages". Ages can also mean generations of fans of both Titans. In the 70's King Kong was still far more popular than Godzilla. Fast forward to today, Social Media & hardcore kaiju fans has evened the odds. Kong relates to humanity by being a Primate and can overcome any odds. A lot of people are not aware of the script of the sequel of KKvG. We find out that Kong killed Godzilla and they need electricity to bring Godzilla back to life. Also Kong is on a warpath in that film.
The issue with Kong films was that he was stuck in remake hell. It's not the characters fault that since 62 that Godzilla has been powered up on several occasions. Is it only fair to power Kong up to bring him back to being an equal to Godzilla w/out people being angry? Comparing these 2 as equals is far more complex than a fight on the big screen. It's about Cinema history and pop culture.
The truth will always bother some. King Kong will always be the original. He inspired Toho to create Godzilla. All should be grateful for what Kong has done for all. His popularity really connects with casual fans which will always offset hardcore niche fans.
Godzilla is the true King of the Monsters. Kong will always be King of Cinema history. There is ALWAYS room for 2. Godzilla ceased that moment in 62 as Kong's equal in pop culture and some.

I mean it does make sense. After all the general audience just prefers things that look or act like them. But for me I prefer things that are strange and unusual. Don’t get me wrong I love Kong and all but he isn’t my all time favorite. However he does have a place in being one of my favorite monsters but to be honest simians never fascinated me to begin with.
Plus I do feel that there is a level of narcissism when it comes to things looking like humans. However I feel sorry for audiences who don’t want to explore things that are different than them. They don’t know what they’re missing to be honest. I feel reptile’s are one of the most misunderstood animals in the planet 🌎. Anyways great job on this video.

I do wanna say tho Kong's mainly only more popular here in the west. Kong has a popularity over in Japan, but doesn't have the impact Godzilla brought. But Japan tends to be more open minded in what they're willing to accept on screen

Not relatable doesn't mean bad, instead of relatable a character can be admirable, familiar, despiteful and be great without relating to him. Good characters aren't good because we can relate to them, but because they compel us into thinking about things in a different mindset.

I disagree. Godzilla is more versatile than King Kong. And is more multidimensional. While Kong is great and all I feel he’s too stagnant of a character. Godzilla changes throughout each of his films from villain to hero. Heck he’s also an antihero as well as a father too. Also there’s more to Godzilla than just winning fights and being a force of nature. I respect your opinion but I disagree.

I don't disagree that King Kong isn't popular but I really think a lot of people don't actually realise how recognizable and huge Godzilla is, even outside of Japan. He's a household name. Sorry but I find a lot of the arguments of this video to be a bit far fetched, dishonest and to be honest I don't think you really gave much of any credit to Godzilla that he actually deserved. The guy is a pop culture icon that expanded from his home country and is very significant to even in western tv and filmography.
(You know, I've noticed that a lot of people have been making the claim of "King Kong being is more popular than Godzilla" ever since GvK... I wonder why? Just saying, it feels like a large amount of people from a certain point are trying to bring down Godzilla in response to that film)

    • @Zimzilla99
      @Zimzilla99  Před rokem

I’m quiet aware of how recognizable Godzilla is outside of Japan. Kind of why I’m an American who’s channel isn’t Zimkong 99.
You can say my arguments are far fetched and dishonest it’s another when you’d say that but only vaguely allude not giving Godzilla credit. Especially when it can be argued Kong has done the same. Having multiple shows movies comics and imitators outside of America.
As for trying to bring down Godzilla or diminish his role in GVK that’s a different argument entirely
I’d gladly debate the issues you have with my points live tonight if you prefer.
