I don’t understand how anyone could possibly mistake Julie Moores as either warm toned or olive. Are people colour blind?

I have really patchy skin. My forehead, jaw and neck are very much olive, but my cheeks and nose are pink. My arms are olive, but my legs are pink.

I think Isla Fisher does not look good in the bright tones as you suggested. It overpowered her delicate features. In the other picture with the muted red lip and the white top she looks much more harmonious and elegant.

Could you do an analysis on ice spice? I feel like her skin tone is very interesting because it looks different on every picture. I feel like she’s olive but sometimes she appears to have rosy hues.

I hate how I can’t look at my coloring objectively like I see everyone else’s! I have medium yellow skin,I always choose the warm olive foundation color if available…medium blonde hair and green blue eyes that are bit muted and cloudy looking. Bright colors make me look gray so no to all springs. I’m not cool so no summer but autumn oranges and camels aren’t great on me. I look great in deep reds/burgundy and soft light and dark greens. But those look good on everyone! I give up!

Maybe unpopular opinion but my olive oil skin (MAC C2powder-Fenty 130-About Face F2) makes me feel absolute freedom!✨I can go for all kind of blushes and lippies without being conditioned by any redness, pinkness or oranginess and without worring about how is it gonna pay off. It' s like having a full canvas prep with _Soft Ochre Paintpot_ always ready to wear what I' m feeling. I wonder if having military green eyes and naturally strawberry lips plays a rol. The only struggle was finding perfect matching foundations back in the 80’ s and 90’ s but just a little touch of yellow and/or blue did the job. 🧛🏻‍♀️🖤

Olives? They come in all colors from lime green, eggplant to glazed black. Whoever coined the therm, clearly was making reference to *OLIVE OIL* and the greek language has a specific majestic word exclusively for this oil: ελαιον, *elaion* (eh-🦁) that we should adopt.

A lot of people think they're olive when they are just muted. I see so many people posting photos claiming they're olive and all I see is red or rosy skin.

This makes sense. That explains why my lips are so pale. I'm light olive , my mom is Italian and dad is Spanish, French and Irish my son who was born with red hair & blue eyes, his dad is German. He has these naturally red lips and mine are pale even though I'm darker than him. I remember we used to call people with his skin color peaches & cream , his skin is like Julianne Moore , Nicole Kidman white.

That makes so much sense and brought clarity. I see how red lipstick can potentially work but the shade has to be according to whether somebody is warm or cool. Maybe for olive that red needs to be mixed with another cool colour to suit olive skin? It is complex and nuanced because features and contrast need to be taken into account too. This why an expert like yourself is needed. It's a subject that requires a great eye and skill.

You are so right about the features effect on the color type, sometimes it’s so sad to see a beautiful lady with rounded shapes all dressed in unrecognizable grayish earthy tones that compliment her skin and hair, but she still gets lost in the crowd. And the opposite, sometimes high contrast makeup, even on bright ladies look vulgar, if they have thin noses, short mouth and overall look of a beauty from Rafael Santi’s painting.

I think Merriam is one of the few people in this space who truly understands colour typing for redheads. I'm cool-toned and pale with rosy skin and red tones in my brown hair. I constantly get mistyped as spring or autumn because of this, when in truth I look best in deep winter colours. Warm colours wash me out and make me look blotchy and ill.

Regarding no casual red lip, I think Kackie Reviews Beauty might actually have found a hack for us olives for that, by finding a custom non-red color that shows up as more red on us, its fascinating! (And actually a lot of us have pointed her in your direction too after her latest video where she color-analyzed herself, i think the two of you would really enjoy each other's content!)

I’ve seen seasonal colour analysts who have stated unequivocally that red hair = warm. And I wholeheartedly disagree with them. I have a light Auburn hair that has an obvious copper tint, and based on seasonal analysis I should be a Bright Spring. But all those warm oranges, red-oranges and browns from that system make me look extremely washed out and ill. I can wear some of the blues and purples from that palette but I have to be careful how I mix them in. I believe I have a neutral-cool undertone to my skin and wholeheartedly agree that the red/green should be valued separately from the yellow/blue (warm/cool) aspects of our colouration. Thank you for doing what you do Merriam! ❤❤

Merriam, you have typed me as olive leaning cool toned. Cool toned is pink, right? In this video you said one cannot be red and green at the same time. Is pink toned and red similar considering pink is red and white mixed together?

It’s not easy being green. I feel like my color palette is very limited as to avoid looking jaundiced, gray, or green.

I'm light olive skin leaning cool. Dusty rose, mauve lip color looks best on me.

Genuinely thank you so much for saying red is a neutral colour. I do colour consultation in a paint shop and the variety of what can be considered red is so immense (much like green, which is funny considering they're complimentary colours). Seeing someone point it out feels so validating because I felt like I was going insane calling red solely warm when berry reds are Right There 🧍‍♀️

I am so thankful for your olive videos Merriam! I’m 42, have Italian/English/Irish ancestry and light olive skin. I am warm and delicate, high contrast and soft classic, but still sometimes have people tell me they think I’m cool toned. I went through a period fairly recently when I was quite pale due to very low iron and I actively avoid the sun so that might have something to do with it. I have had many struggles finding a foundation that suits my complexion, but finally found a good one in Lisa Eldridge’s Seamless Skin Foundation in Shade No. 9. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s the best match I’ve found so far. I would love an updated video on makeup for olive skin. Also, I’m curious which season warm and delicate is closest to. I’m guessing maybe Soft Autumn? ❤🍂

Mildred Rosewood by Gucci is my perfect MLBB lipstick, it is a deeper red. I look way better in this than in nude lipstick because I'm high contrast. BRIGHT red lipstick is harder to pull off "naturally" but deeper reds look harmonious on my face.

Also Merriam typed me years ago when she first started on CZcams and put me in warm and delicate but said because of my gamine essence I could go with slightly brighter colors..that was spot on and that is how I try to dress to this day. Finding how your facial features fit in the color type is invaluable and more comprehensive than just looking at the skin.

I wanted to be olive because of the "exotic" connotation but I am not at all. Olive is very cool and beautiful though.

I don't like being olive in the winter time because I look kind of grayish, but in the summer, I don't mind because I take on some colour. It looks a lot better.

Aly Art says in one of her videos that soft gamine can also get away with the super long hair as part of like a mermaid type look. Do you think that's true b/c although Coleman looks amaze balls with her tousled bob, I FEEL like a long haired person. Whenever I cut my hair shorter I always feel way less feminine and like drab. Not sure if as a soft gamine I suit super long hair, but I love it too much to avoid it!! What do you think?

I was color typed by you as cool and delicate, but no mention of olive undertones. I have no red in my skin at all and I tan but it’s not a golden beachy color, but very sallow. I suspect I’m a light olive.

I love your olive videos! I am of Mediterranean descent and I have light olive skin. I tan easily and become warmer but in general I am a more cool olive. With very pigmented lips. I still don’t like red lipstick but a darker brownish rose or burgundy works great! Although many people in the world are olive, I think that is the USA olive is not as common. As evidenced by the makeup that we find here. It is only recently that light olive foundations have been available. There are many darker or tan olive foundations but few lighter ones. I learned how to mix colors very early on in order to get the right colors for me (I am 50). Makeup sales people at department stores always wanted to put me in warm colors, which make me look dead.
