Merriam is adorable when she gets worked up!

A problem with compliments: it is far safer to compliment a colour or a piece of clothing than a person nowadays. I know lots of people who actively avoid complimenting a person instead of her clothes, lest they be misinterpreted as making inappropriately personal comments. So a lot of the time someone tells you “that colour looks great” it’s being used as a socially safe way to say that you look great.

I have an unpopular opinion.. I think many people wear colours that really are too bright for any living person and that those colours should not be manufactured (I’m talking about neon colours). Zero people can wear them without makeup so they are no one’s colours!

I understand where you’re coming from, but they were just trying to compliment you. Seems like a bit of an overreaction to get rid of the dress because someone said they liked the dress rather than mentioning you specifically. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The best compliment I’ve ever gotten was at a birthday party and I was wearing a very simple dress in a plum color and someone said “you’ve never looked more like yourself”. Also, whenever I wear sage green I get told I’m “glowing”. When I wear teal, I get told my clothing matches my eyes. So I always keep those three colors in my wardrobe.

What if you never get a compliment 😂

  • @narstytevitalija1209

I was typed as Warm and delicate by you and it really made sense. I finally understand why I love olive green but hate yellow 😂. It really also helped me to get a body typing at the same time. As those super earthy w&d colours are too dull on me. Not because I am not w&d, but because they clash with my body type. Honestly, your color and body typings are the only ones I have come across that make perfect sense. I really like how you do not try to make it all sound super complicated 😊

I think people usually mean that you look good in the dress but just phrase it awkwardly. If it didn't suit you they probably wouldn't notice it.

  • @justlivinglife465

Hahaha I have also noticed it’s sooo hard to type very young pretty women sometimes as their skin seems not to react badly enough to anything.. your colour type is “pretty” 😂

As a warm toned person, I believe in colour analysis because now that I wear my colours no one tells me about how tired I look. Turns out I was just wearing black everyday, and it is NOT in my pallet.

    Love your sassiness of late!😂

I knew jewel tones were for me when close friends would say quite literally that I looked so well in that color, not that the color of my shirt was nice.

Thank you for this video. Do you have your color typing videos on a playlist? I have found for many black women we are often mistyped as warm unless we are one shade all over. Also for a video idea maybe ideal nail colors for different color seasons?

  • @ChipsandGuac007

Merriam, your channel is so much fun!!! Out of all the body/color/style analysts, your perspective is my favorite and one I look forward to hearing most. Thank you for sharing your art! Blessings to you!

You are absolutely right about needing to wear less makeup. I got rid of my redness when I started dressing in my colours. All of the sudden the right colours did not contrast with the redness in my face.

    Love the hair!
