    That black outfit 13:00 is during late Queen Elizabeth II passing at the time of mourning. She was doing a walkabout at Sandringham, the Queen’s country estate. You’re right. Good eye. Royals are not permitted to wear all black like that unless they’re in mourning like Remembrance Day.

    Catherine wears bright colours like the Queen did on engagements so that all the people who come to see her, can spot her easily. That’s why she wears brights often. Even if they are not her best colours.

    Really enjoyed this video! Love how passionate you are about Kate's style, and I agree with you about the sharpness and colors. I really love her in the pale pink and a pale yellow, and that jewel green dress is amazing!

    I really enjoyed this because I have felt so often that Kate didn't actually look good in all her amazingly pristine and perfectly tailored clothes. It's a strange disconnect because she is so elegant and so classy, and everyone calls her a "style icon", so I feel like I am taking crazy pills! I have heard her called a classic so many times. But this makes sense. She has classic essence, but she's a flamboyant natural. I love how you show how she can continue to do the very very formal look as future Queen of England, but how to lengthen and soften just a bit to work much better with her line.

    Merriam, thank you so much for taking the time to analyze Kate's style. I completely understand and appreciate that you are being extra careful when criticizing her, because I'm sure her fans would jump at you and think your analysis is a direct attack on Princess of Wales. I on the hand don't really care how much my sister shouts at me for criticizing Kate's style and will say what I think needs to be said. (By the way my sister is a super fan of Kate). ok, so what I like to say is that I don't like the warm tones in her hair, and the warm tones she wears. It does not look good on her. It looks separate from her. Most of the warm tones are well suited for Spring or Autumn colouring. She is cool summer and therefore warm tones are off on her. When she married PW, her hair was dark and cool toned and it look really nice on her and worked very well with the cool tones she used to wear at the time. But at some point, someone decided to give her warm, reddish, coppery tones and everything started going downhill from there. Also, I hate the stiff, structured coats, suits, dresses and extra long wide legged floor length pants or culottes pants she wears. She does not look good in any of them. She is tall, Flamboyant Natural and loose, flowy fabrics look fantastic on her. Structured garments make her look stiff, as if she swallowed a stick. One can definitely look absolutely formal, wearing their own lines. Case in point the blue Mulberry caped coat she wore on her trip to Northern Ireland. I think I died when I saw her in that coat. I thought she looked stunning and believe me NOT a lot of people can pull that look off, without looking like they are wearing Sherlock Holmes costume. Another good example is the green Hobbs coat with rounded lapels, she wore on St. Patrick's day. She looked Stunning. The coat worked very well with her body and moved beautifully as she walked about. Everything else, all the other stiff coats are a NO on her. I don't know who her stylist is, but she needs to be fired ASAP. She puts Kate in a lot of clothes meant for Dramatics. She is not Dramatic, people!!!. She is Flamboyant Natural with a broad shoulders and small waist (like an inverted triangle). There is houndstooth Emilia Wickstead dress she wore on her visit to Harvard....oh dear God, I think that is the dress I hate the most on her. On the other hand back in 2018, she wore this plaid Erdem dress with an asymmetrical neckline, as she visited the Victoria & Albert Museum. That is the dress I love the most on her. Again, not a lot of people can pull off that dress and look elegant and stunning. One final thing, I don't think for a moment that she is a style icon, she is a trend follower rather than a trend setter and wears whatever clothes comes her way. Again, this is not an attack on her. I don't see her as a style icon, because she doesn't have her own unique style. She is a beautiful young lady and wears a lot of beautiful clothes, some work really well on her, some don't. But she does not have a unique signature style, which is unfortunate. With all the money and resources available to her, one would think, she would be able to define and create a unique style that is hers, and hers only. Anyways, my two cents for the day. Let me know what you think. By the way, I love your channel, and I learned so much from you. Keep up the excellent work. Cheers and God bless. 💖💖💖OK, now let's see how many people attack me in the comments section. 🤣🤣

      I totally agree - even when she does more casual styling (ie. the ugly blue blazer), it’s a very tight millennial fit. It’s usually a blazer, collar-less shirt, tight ankle jeans, and expensive white sneakers. It feels like they deliberately want her to look like she’s cosplaying relatability
      I also wonder if the styling team was instructed to get the public to subconsciously associate her with the late queen, who often wore very saturated colors in old age

  • @carm9716
    @carm9716 Před 4 měsíci +4

    I think Catherine dresses more like a Dramatic Classic which explains the blazers. I agree, I think they're a bit too stiff for her.

    She will always be Catherine, Princess of Wales, to me 👑My favourite dress she has worn is a floor-length muted/iridescent silver one. My main criticism of her style is choosing clothes that are too short (and/or tight) for her, she really needs vertical.

    I'm so amused by your angry moments :) "disrespect to her beauty" - love it!
    I am pretty sure by now im beveled taught and I also think I only like to wear elbow/waist-length or cap sleeves.
    Maybe her makeup artist thinks she's an autumn and puts a lot of bronzer and contour on her incl. her neck? In the blue patterned dress, it seems like very warm studio light that makes her look strange - but also, and I was hoping to learn why, I feel thin cotton patterned fabrics like the one in 15:20 looks weird on me too. Looks like kitchen curtains or 50's housewife-esque nature. Is it that it doesn't have enough texture or weight to it? It doesn't fall enough but rather bubbles up and sticks to itself?

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  Před 4 měsíci +1

      thank you for your comment! I'd say 90% of it is that it just needs to be weighed down more. It can't really be a crisp fabric or too airy or chiffon-y without texture. Mix 'n match fabrics are great and just fine if you don't have Classic essence.....so you as FN will do just fine with some lightweight fabrics especially if they're textured or mixed with heavier fabrics and textures. But only a lightweight fabric will be too lightweight. And also the print on her dress doesn't help....it's too small and kind of busy and geometric on her, but not small enough that it just looks like it gives texture.

      @@merriamstyle Thank you, yes I am realising I only like that dress with a long coat or thick sweater over it. So it makes sense. Got it because I owned the same long silhouette but in denim. Well there it has got the level of heaviness..

    I’m sure she does spray tan. I lived in the British islands for over 17 years and meet on one who didn’t do spray tan regardless of social status. They are very self-conscious of their pale skin because of the overcast skies.
    She’s beautiful and dignified so can rock anything, however, wearing your lines and colour palette is priceless.

    FYI she had to wear black in the photos you shared because our Queen had just passed away.....it's Royal protocol to wear black when a royal family member of monarch dies.
    You can not like an item of clothing she wears, but she always looks put together.
    It was a bit unfair to call her "boxy" in the photo with baby Charlotte....she'd just given birth and still had her baby bump....she needs to be comfortable and formal at the same time at that moment on the hospital steps.

    I don't think Kate ever found her own style. She has LOTS of clothes but no consistent style.
    Over the years she wore anything and everything, and those military, plaid fabric styles she seemed to favour in the past looked awful.
    personally, I like her in the country/ hunting clothes the most. But of course she needs clothes for a variety of occasions and she needs a stylist .

    I don't see her as a Flamboyant Natural. Perhaps Soft Natural or something from the Classic, but personally I'm leaning towards Soft Natural. She looks chic in a blouse with a soft bow and an outfit with an emphasis on the waist is always better on her than without an emphasis on the waist. Also, the length and shape of the sleeves in the picture in a bright pastel lilac dress are not for FN. if she were FN, she would look great in those red/blue jackets. And she is Warm and Delicate - soft cool shades make her slightly yellower, but cream (instead of white) looks completely natural and organic on her. It might be a spray tan, but that just means she always uses it. Because in most of the photos she looks warm and the cool shades of the clothes in my opinion are a deliberate contrast and more formal colors.

    6:00 love your channel but totally disagree: this is nót stiff, she wears this gorgeous kobald ZARA blazer with a t-shirt, JEANS, and SNEAKERS! It's not too casual, and not too formal - it was a sportsy occasion, I believe, or something with a school. Another youtube stylist - beebs kelly - has praised this exact look , and I have to concur. Catherine is a royal, she can't and shouldn't style herself as the average jane: the requirements are very specific.
