the receipts value is the sum total of everything on it, it serves as a proof of purchase and you can use it to get a refund on one or more items listed on it, if the item hasa warranty you need the receipt to prove your purchase and that you are within aloted time to claim a refund or warranty, at least in my country. destroying it without the customers concent absolutely should be illegal and count as theft of the sum total on the receipt, even if that would be a simple liter of milk.
