Restoration Of An Abandoned Yamaha DT 250 - Genuine Barn Find!
Its been a while since you've heard from me but that's only because I've been locked in the workshop and been hard at work saving this 51 year old Yamaha DT250 or DT3 from the junkman. Its a project that was abandoned by its previous owner a long time ago and has been lying in this small barn for a long time so it really is a genuine barn find. This restoration really took a lot out of me and there were a few times I nearly threw in the towel as doing a 6 month restoration in 3 weeks is quite the challenge! anyway I hope you enjoy this episode and will leave a little like and a comment to show your support. I was 13 in 1973. I owned one exactly like this. My father was a HUGE fan of motocross and enduro. He had several bikes. Mostly European bikes. My favorite was his Bultaco Pursang. Anyway, thank you. This video is amazing and truly takes me back to my youth.
I always wondered but never thought to ask... why would someone choose powder coating over spray painting or vice versa? Is it just preference in how the finished product looks or is there more to it?
If I were my teenaged weight I would love to have compared the VFR 400 vs. FZ400. Use to take FZR600 motor and hide in in the FZ400. In a city no one could catch you.

lol second video with in common bikes. I had a VFR 1000 with used F1 slip'ons use to spit fiberglass packing from the pipes, no one like riding behind me.
I found an RZ350 is almost the same condition. Changed to RD400 motor. and was able to fit a TZ250 body work. Most fun I ever had.

I would have happily watched a full, four hour, complete restoration video. Just sayin'. 😉 Another belter of a restoration. Enjoyed it immensely, thanks. Re the powder coating. All I know is it must be scrupulously clean before coating, and, don't move it after coating. Makes it difficult to get it in the oven though! Swing arm upside doon! Cheers, Norm.
Thats a restoration, not just a few track days general use. I'd happily keep it a garage queen Sunday ride.
