Weird Ancient Brass Air Thing -Full Restoration

  • Today I am restoring this Kismet Baby foot pump from the 50's I believe .It was found in the same barn as the screw jack I recently restored, you can find that video in my main channel page.
    Anyway for this restoration it has to be a full teardown as every part is either worn, seized or just rusted up so for the disassembly all it took was a few spanners or wrenches if you prefer and some major heat to free off the nuts and pins.
    Once apart it was pretty much standard restoration procedure, clean, sandblast, vapor hone, prime paint and re-assemble. One extra step I took this time was to borrow a lathe so that I could turn my own hardware instead of relying on someone else to do it for me and I have to say I really enjoyed it so keep your eyes peeled for more machine work on the channel in the future.
    Anyway once it was all re-assembled and its data plate was reinstalled I had to test it and what better to test it on that the next project, can you guess what it is?
    So anyway I hope you enjoy this little restoration and will join me again next time for another fun filled project.
    Enjoy

    Sacre Bleu!!! 😳😳😳 It's me Dad's old footpump‼️‼️Never thought I'd see that again. OK well it wasn't THAT exact one, ours was red for a start but ohh the memories it evokes of our old shed at home.❤️❤️❤️
    Apart from the countless bike punctures and car tyre reflations and the sterling service it gave to us and all the local kids bikes (it was a known and valued resource that endowed my brothers and I with enhanced popularity around the estate), our Kismet was not without a modicum of infamy! Dad pumped it nightly to inflate a lorry innertube that was used to nightly aerate our fishtank until one day... pump, pump, pump... ENORMOUS ROOTIN' TOOTIN' RIP ROARIN' BANG!!! The noise was loud enough to bring the neighbours to our door! Had Dad shot Mum??? Were the kids next??? Nope. The fishtank innertube had let rip with a sonic boom 💥
    The CR250 was awesome Sir, but this resto, for me, was mind blowing!❤️❤️❤️

    Nice little project bud. Keep up the great work and your shelves will be groaning under the weight of pristinely restored objects of pleasure. Not so sure about the nose and chin making an entrance as I do like the anonymity aspect. I do miss the narration though. The Scottish burr has a nice soft tone to it. I am not used enough to the different accents to pick out where in Scotland you are from but it is pleasant to listen to.
    High praise for wearing "proper" overalls and I think the workshop dustcoat is developing a beautiful patina. I was always told to be wary of tradesmen who just work in blue jeans as only "cowboys" wear Jeans! Nothing shoddy about your work.

    First, a joy to watch as always.
    Second, some personal, perhaps nitpicky feedback following on your posts about viewership. I do enjoy the one-and-done projects every bit as much as the series projects, if not more. I miss the voice narration. And while I appreciate the value in cutting the time back, it feels here like you cut out some steps (selecting and thinning out the paint, parts washing) you would normally show; maybe there's a compromise of a little more time added, but showing a shorter amount of some steps (which I think you are already doing)? Just some things I noticed which I am sure you have thought about.

    • @RRCRestoration
      @RRCRestoration  Před rokem +6

      HI, thanks for the feedback and you are 100% about needing the voice narration back and showing more details again but with the past few videos I've just been doing a bit of experimenting to see what still works and what doesn't to get an idea of how to film and edit my next big project. Thanks for the feedback and advice.

  • @takoma808
    @takoma808 Před rokem +3

    Remember the other day you posted a poll asking if you should change things? I voted leave it as is at the time, but I do have a suggestion now. Sandblasting is so satisfying, don't cut away from that. I'd watch sandblasting all the live long day, and if you don't believe me go have a look at how massive the pressure washing scene is on CZcams. That's my input. Good vid as always bud.

    • @takoma808
      @takoma808 Před rokem +2

      Oh and one more thing, which I hope doesn't sound like rough criticism, the scrolling text along the bottom that you sometimes do, I feel like I'm either watching that or watching the content, can't do both. If it was me I'd just voice it over so people can watch the video and absorb the info together. Promise that's my last one!
