    I use spincast reels myself and since I was little, it's just as important as using a spinning reel or baitcaster. Spincast reels are effective in many situations in the fishing environment. Spincast reels are an amazing tool when I am in a situation when the fishing is really good catching them almost back to back, and you want to get your bait out there really fast, that's one example where a spincast is effective.I appreciate your channel Willy!

    Back in the mid 80s. These little guys were the king of the trout streams. I remember seeing them at the lodge at Montauk trout park in southern Missouri. Back then, the ones made in Japan, were like 75 dollars with the rod. I always wanted one. 75 dollars was a lot of money back when I was 14 years old. To be honest with you. They are still expensive on eBay. Recently I finally found a vintage, new old stock, still in the package, made in Japan Diawa mini spin cast. It is a 4 piece rod and is the exact same style reel you have here. Needless to say I paid a small fortune to get it. 225 dollars to be exact. I loaded it with good old original Stren 4 pound test monofilament. I headed off to a creek near where I live. It was terrible. I spent as much time untangling line from the drag adjusting tip as I did fishing. So I took it home. Removed the line from the reel and reloaded it with 4 pound test braided spiderwire line. I was hoping that since braided line is a bit more stiff than monofilament line that it would not tangle up as bad. Well to make a long story short. It worked well with the spiderwire. However I have noticed that after about 4 short fishing trips the white nylon spool is starting to wear on its edges from the braided line. I’m going to keep using it until it won’t work anymore. I will admit though. I am very disappointed in it. It is a very smooth rod and reel. It is well designed and built. It is a pleasure to fish with. I just don’t see it lasting very long with the braided line on it. I could switch back to monofilament. Then I would have to put up with the tangles that go with it. It’s a shame to because my 35 dollar zebco micro 33 gold setup works great. It is really a nifty little setup. It’s just fun to tangle with a good sized bluegill with an ultralight setup. My cheap zebco ultralight setup works much better than the Diawa and I’ve had it for 3 years and never had to do a thing with it. It just works.

      @@TroyGlaus-yv2yb 🤠Hey there! Sounds like we’ve had some of the same issues and history with these reels. The silver series, with the drag knob in the center of the cap were notorious for tangles.. The larger models were famous for the pickup pins not “picking up” lol. But I did figure out in one of my very recent videos (Andy visits Thousand Trails Campground) that filing the pickup pin and using 6lb line on the micro kept the line from tangling up around the drag button and snagging during a cast… then I gave the entire combo to Andy 😂. I was just happy to figure it out but I never wanted to see it again.. Thanks for watching and commenting!! I’m glad I haven’t been the only one on the planet to have those issues but try 6lb line and I may stop part of your problem with it.. I’m still looking for the greatest micro Spincast..

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors Před 8 dny

      @@user-fi8rf9un1v Hey there, Though this product will obviously catch fish, I have no idea how long it’ll last. I was catching some pretty good size fish that would give expensive equipment a good workout. I personally think this set up is more for children or people to keep in their car for that “just in case” time that may present itself.. it’s very small and the line that comes on it is very weak.. the reel has a very slow gear ratio and it takes time to reel in a fish. Being so small, there’s not much line on it so if a large enough fish decides to make a run, you’ll run out of line quickly and it’ll most likely snap it.. so I wouldn’t use this as an everyday piece of equipment, not saying that you can’t, but I wouldn’t.. hope that helps..

      Hey there🤠, It was actually quite hard to catch those few fish I caught that day. I was out there for over 2 hours just to catch what you saw.. I actually tried a bunch of different baits and techniques in that 2+ hour time frame.. sadly, when you make a 20 or 30 minute episode, you guys only really get to see the catches. Kinda like those old Saturday morning fishing shows of the 70s and 80s, the viewer only gets to see the good stuff😄. A lot of the time, I end up with a pile of used baits at the end of recording that no one e ever sees. All from trying different things to catch a fish.. I do change many different speeds, baits, and techniques to catch a fish, it’s just that you guys, the viewer just see what catches the fish, which may make it seem like I’m not doing anything any different with one than I am the other.. That day, the fish were being a bit picky and I tried crank baits, worms, spinner baits, and jigs/grubs.. but again, they took their time hitting on anything but worms and jigs/grubs were all they would make a move on. I can tell you that those reels cast pretty well, because I probably made 1000 casts with each in that 2+ hour period.. sometimes I question why I decided to have a fishing channel.. 😉😄 Thanks for watching!! I have a Beaver Dam Park close to where I live, too! There is a small inlet into the lake there that has a pier next to it. One side of the inlet is on private property, but obviously a lot of people ignore the no trespassing sign. Long story short the private property was sold and the new owner put logs across the path on his property to keep people and their trash off his property. Guess the trespassers have to go elsewhere now.

      @@ddselvig Have you ever wondered how many “Main Streets” there are in the world? 🤔🤣 I’ve lost several fishing spots in the last couple years because of the insane decisions being made by property owners. The whole not being able to fish from the bank thing just kills me.. or they won’t open until 9 and you can only fish for 3 hours at a time, and that’s after renting “their” boat.. 🙄 I live in a very selfish and greedy place.. they’ll put a “No Fishing” sign up next to a pot hole in the street after a good rain.. in some ways I guess I see their problem because no one cleans up after themselves anymore, so instead of having to clean up after them, it’s easier to make it off limits to everyone.. if it wasn’t for the campground and my cousins lake, I have no idea where I’d be fishing.. my channel would be very different, if there even would’ve been one..

    And here I am to cheap to buy one rod and reel at 56, not to mention a Monkey or Vespa that I’ve been contemplating for well over two years😂😂. I get what your saying about inconsiderate people, I deal with the same type at the gym who try and monopolize the entire gym simultaneously, the irony of most of them is you can’t tell they ever go. I’m like you that won’t fly with me.

      @@samuelfink4799 Hey there🤠, I’m not the kinda person that generally tells people what they should or shouldn’t do, because everyone is different in their decision making process and reasons why they should or shouldn’t do something but I’ll say this, time may seem free but it’s not. You pay every second of the day just like at a parking meter. Eventually your time will expire. So when and if you get the chance to do something that’s been on your mind, like buying a Monkey or little fishing rod and reel, if it’s not going to put you in the poorhouse or cause people to go hungry, experience it while you can. If it’s not your thing, sell it/them but don’t go away wishing you had taken the shot and didn’t.. Sometimes I believe regret for not trying is much worse than giving it a shot.. The Monkey is by far the best financial decision I ever made.. but that’s just me. I can’t imagine “not” having it now.. People have become so self absorbed and ignorant of others that it’s actually depressing for the future of humanity.. not to sound self righteous or better but simple things have been overcome by expectation.. like holding a door for someone or letting someone walk across a parking lot in front of your car.. no one says thank you, not a head nod, nothing.. people parking at gas pumps to go in and shop simply because they’re to lazy to pull into a parking place.. while people who actually need gas have to sit and wait for them to get their burrito.. it’s scary. I understand the gym thing as well.. seen it 1,000 times. Having conversations while sitting on the equipment hogging the dumbbells.. Believe I know.. ok, my rant is over!! lol 😂 Thanks for watching - and allowing me to vent. 🤠 Willie

      Hello my name is David and I love your channel! I'm a subscriber. )) So, I was looking online for a Garcia Mitchell 308 fishing reel, and I was shocked and laughed at the ridiculous prices that people wanted to sell for! Prices like $499.00 down to around $100.00 and $120.00 dollars! And it's stupid, and they act like they act like the stuff is made out gold and silver! It's nonsense

      @@user-tj8zy6zv9b Hello David, thanks so much for watching! I’m very glad that you enjoy the channel.. I’ve owned hundreds of Mitchell reels but I’ve never paid more than $10 for one.. I have two 308s.. one was given to me by its original owner. It had come apart while he was using it and he never fixed it.. I did. And the other was in an antique shop (the one I used in this video) and I walked past it many times. Finally I just bought it and brought it home. It works very well as you saw. Mitchell reels are in almost every antique store and flea market. Don’t jump too quickly because they’re out there. I have three 304 Mitchell’s and never would’ve thought they would’ve been that easy to come across.. A lot of the time, it’s when you’re “not” looking for something that shows up.. Mitchells are definitely not the greatest reel on the planet but they’re easy to work on and you generally find them fairly easily and cheap.. so don’t rush yourself and buy something you may regret spending the money on. One will show up eventually, they’re out there.. call Mat’s Reel Repair Eagle River, Wisconsin. 715-337-2337 There’s an extremely high possibility he’ll have one with a price that you can live with.. He’s a very nice man and has thousands of vintage reels.. give him a call.. Thanks again, Willie
