Nice video, Willie, thanks for the tour. I've never been to The Pocahontas State Park, but it looks like a nice camping ground. Take care and be safe.

It was a nice place.. At some point I’ll have to give it a try..
Now that Bert is working pretty well, some fall tent camping sounds like fun..

Enjoyed the vid. Good to see you casting a line in a place that in my growing up years I’ve explored on several occasions.

      Hey there!
It seems like a nice enough place.. I believe there’s some decent fish in there and definitely plenty of wildlife around the area. With a small boat of some kind, I believe a lot of fish can be caught there. It’s got nature walks, mountain biking, fishing, camping.. all in all, it’s got it all. I just couldn’t put my finger on what was missing but I believe it was just atmosphere.. the lack of people in the campground.. maybe it’s different on weekends and for the most part, peace and quiet is what it’s all about… who knows, I may drag the camper up there at some point and give it a try.. I definitely intend to go back again and fish. Maybe I’ll see ya there!! 🤠
      Thanks for watching!!

Snake alert! Snake alert! For just a second when you said "toothy critter" I thought we were going to see a snapping turtle! Good video, looks like a nice park.

Yes the old water snake was headed right for those folks, since those kids were wanting to hang out by the edge, just thought I’d give them the heads up..

Hi Willie, there's always geese. The deer are a bonus.
What is a toothy critter? That's a new one for me. 🤔
Looked pretty nice out there for camping and fishing, but not for me. I agree there's something off about
    what you showed us.
Tell all Hi and meow. Take care and stay safe till next time.
    ❤❤❤❤❤

      Howdy Skye!
Yes those dang geese are everywhere.. the deer were a nice change of pace..
and the toothy critter was a chain pickerel, a very strong meat eater with long sharp teeth, that all the other little fishies fear..
I think the campground was missing “people” out doing things.. it just seemed empty.
Oh well, I’m sure it’s a nice place when it’s full of happy folks!!
      Thanks for watching!
Everyone says “Hi Skye and meow”🐈‍⬛

One of my fishing buddies got his thumb chomped by a monster pike last week. I offered to sew up the gash on his thumb using some 20 pound braid. He declined.

The toothy critters can definitely open you up and cause you to leak a bit.. always keep some super glue in the ol tackle box!!

Seattle Mariners hat? What’s the story behind it? How did someone from Virginia become a Mariners fan? I know it's an odd question!

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Haha, 🤣
It’s a great question with a very simple answer..
My best friend (from 9th grade up) and I were pretty much camping, biking, playing music, or fishing right up until I got married, then a couple years later, he got married and moved to Washington State, Bellingham. He sent me the hat many years ago and it’s been sorta my “go to” ball cap ever since.. it’s starting to show its age and I need to figure out a way to clean it without damaging it.. it’s a “sized hat” so I don’t want it to shrink..
but every time he watches an episode, he knows he’s still on my mind, no pun intended..
Thanks for the question! I may include it in an upcoming episode if you don’t mind?
I have a couple lined up, waiting in the wings..
      Thanks again,
      Willie

@@TheGraytOutdoors Right on! Include it in an upcoming episode, others many also wonder! My interest in people’s hats began when a person asked about my own hat down in the Caribbean many years ago. I was on a fishing charter, and when the we docked for supplies on a small island, a local resident approached me. He was curious about my connection to the ODU hat I was wearing and the Norfolk/Va Beach area. He shared that he had attended Norfolk State for track and field. A simple hat can spark connections and conversations.

@@Bass_Fishin_Jake I understand completely.. all my western hats have been the topic of discussion on numerous occasions but it’s another question I’ve not answered at this point..
the other day I was asked about my Triumph Jacket and why it has the name “Jim” on it. 😂
These are the things I save up for future episodes..
The little things can definitely breakdown barriers and break the ice, as they say.
Using the old fishing reels have started some incredibly long and ongoing conversations by the lakeside.. lol 😂..
