    The Sabra is pronounced "Say-brah". It's my favorite spincaster and I have several of them. To me, it's the Cadillac of spincasting reels. The models 130A and 130B are the best. I grew up watching Virgil Ward's fishing show in the 1970's. His show was sponsored by Johnson. He caught a lot of bass using the mighty Johnson Sabra mounted on beautiful Fenwick Lunkerstik rods. I fell in love with that reel then and I've enjoyed using them ever since.

      Hey there!
      Thanks for the pronunciation because I truly had no idea.. but I did actually say it that way once, didn’t realize it was correct.
      I finally got the cap off the one I have but it looks like it came off the Titanic inside. The body was totally corroded to a point that it’s unusable.. so I’ve kept some of the good parts and somewhere down the line, I’ll find another..
      I love the old fishing shows.. they made me buy a few things I couldn’t afford, 😂.

    I hope you are able to find parts to revive that 115. Judging by the wear, it was someone's favorite reel for decades, and they fished a lot.

    They started putting the "e" clip on the drag screws when they went to the round drag knob. It prevents the user from backing the drag screw out too far and having it come completely out of the frame

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, when they took away the 1-8 dial, and changed to the +\-, that “e” clip was definitely “needed”…

    Fun video! With all this hype, I really want to see a tear down of that little red reel! 🤣Boo said Monkey cleaning isn't in his job description!

    Hi Willie, wow 161 miles. GPS gets confused sometimes to. I guess!!🙄
    Oh that reel is really a gross mess.
    Try hairspray or nail
    polish remover to clean it, but it might take off the paint if you're not careful. It does growl. I hope you can get parts for it.
    Tell all Hi and meow. Take care and stay safe till next time.

      Howdy Skye!
      Yes that reel was one of the more nasty ones I’ve taken apart but it’ll all work out in the end.. new parts have arrived and now it’s just a matter of time before it’s catching little fishys!!
      Everyone says Hi Skye and meow🐈‍⬛

      @TheGraytOutdoors  Před 3 měsíci +1

      It was one of the worst reels I’ve tried to clean yet.. However, I did get the cap off the Sabra and it’s debatable at this point which one is worse..

    Willie, glad you made it back home safely! That 115 reel was a mess, do you have, or have you ever considered using an ultrasonic cleaner, I was thinking that might be a way to really get things down to the bare parts without any wear, anyway, just a thought. Take care and be safe!

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  Před 3 měsíci

      Hey CJ,
      That 115 is or was a total mess but as we speak, there’s new parts on the way.
      The ultrasonic cleaners are pretty nice.. too pricey for me and a lot of the parts I would have to clean, are painted and I “think” it would destroy the paint..
      But it has been thought about.. I’m ok with cleaning the way I’ve been doing it.. takes a while but turns out nice..

    Try putting the Sabra in the freezer for 10-20 minutes I've had several with the lids locked up and this seems to free them up

      Well, I actually got the cap off but wow, it’s in extremely rough condition inside.. it’s not looking good for a revival but we’ll see..

    Watched, liked, subscribed, now buying Johnson reels after breaking a Coleman lantern addiction, thanks a lot! Looking for gears to a 115 I just picked up, can you hook me up with your buddy with the parts?

      That’s Gary’s email, just let him know what you’re looking for and I’m sure he can help you out!!
      Green reels are much cooler than green lanterns !! Haha 🤣.
      Just kidding, trust me I know how hard it is to stop. Every time I see an old Johnson reel, or Abu Garcia, Shakespeare, I have to try to rescue it and give it life..
      Hey, I enjoy it, it’s fairly inexpensive, and it’s extremely gratifying..
      give Gary a shout, he’ll be happy to help!!
      Thanks again,
      Willie
