I’m still working on it, trying to get some new gears for it and a new cap.. the line guide keeps popping out, but I’ll figure it out and it’ll be out there again very soon!!
      Thanks again my friend!!
      I very much appreciated it!!

Great restoration, Willie, aside of a little paint ware, this reel looks almost brand new, I can't wait to see in in action! Have a great day, take care and be safe!

Hey CJ! Thanks so much. It’s a personality mark on top of that cap.. Hopefully it’ll get out there soon but man do I have a bunch..
      Thanks for watching!!

That's a good idea for straightening the tip of a dented nose cap, Willie!

Thanks!! I had to get creative.. now if I can just tight the silver line guide it’ll be great. Every time I cast, it clicks while the line it pass g through it..

It was fun right up until the line guide fell out😂. I have no idea how to make it stay.. back burner.. I’m at the campground with two broken reels and one that flew off the rod into the lake.. I’m having a typical “Willie Gray” kinda week..

This is a good learning video and now I just need to find me a Shakespeare 1700 series reel to play with! Willie, thanks for another great episode. We enjoy them all!

      🤠Howdy Harry!!
I don’t under any circumstances claim to teach, 😂 lol… but if people accidentally learn something, that’s awesome!!
But if you’re in the market for a 1700 series Shakespeare, you’re talkin’ to the second closest right guy!!

Wd40 on that door hinge lol nice video sweet reel I have a 1810 that was stoved up so bad I couldn't get the cap off now it works like new but the foot cracked I didn't know they were so fragile was hoping you were gonna fish it

    • @TheGraytOutdoors
      @TheGraytOutdoors  Před 4 měsíci +1

😂Yes, that hinge requires some attention but I think it adds to the experience when watching🤣😂..
As we speak, I’m at a campground (in the rain) hoping to use around 14 different reels while I’m here for the next 5 days.. unfortunately the 1799 needs a bit of a repair that I haven’t quite figured out how to do just yet.. mechanically, it works fine but the repair I made on the nose cap, though made straight again, the line guide keeps popping out.. I’ll figure out a way to repair it, then get it back out there..
sorry your 1810 cracked.. I find the Shakespeares to be pretty tough but honestly they were all made of pretty much the same stuff back then.
I’ve got several Johnson century’s with broken feet.. but I’ll get some replacement bodies eventually..
      Thanks for watching!!

I've been wanting one of these Shakespeare only branded as a Ted Williams, I like searching antique stores for them as far better deal usually than ebay.i will clean and lube but not strip them down as far as you go. Still my favorite since a kid is the spincast reels.

      Hey there Bob,
I’ve only found one Ted Williams 440 in my many searches and I have to say, it was a classy looking reel.
They’re easy to take apart and clean, so I wouldn’t be too afraid to tear it all the way down. It makes a huge difference in performance with a total cleaning.
      They are great reels.
Good luck out there with your search!! Keep me informed!
      Thanks for watching.

Hi Willie, I think that's a beautiful reel, to be so old.😅
It does sound like an old person though. 😊 It seems to fit my age. Lol
I can't wait to see this one out there catching fish, hopefully.
I wonder what bait you will use for it?
What fly rod you will use? We will just wait and see.
Tell all Hi and meow. Take care and stay safe till next time.
    ❤❤❤❤❤

      🤠 Howdy Skye,
It’s actually in pretty good shape considering its age.. it’s in better shape than I am..
I’m gonna use that reel for anything and everything… it’s the all purpose reel.. but it doesn’t go on a fly rod, just the “underspins” are for that.. and I’ve got plenty of those coming up… 😉
Everyone say “Hi Skye” and meow🐈‍⬛

We might be able to make stuff faster and hold tighter tolerances these days, but we sure don't make 'em to last! Or be restored easily haha.

      🤠Hey there,
      I couldn’t agree more..
It’s become a disposable world, Been headed that way since the mid 70s but fortunately the older stuff has managed to hold on. Fortunately there’s still parts out there and these old fellas can be such a blast to use..😃.. I love to fish but using these old reels adds a bit more excitement to the whole experience…
