Hey Michael, I got an epic Dark*Sun question for you. With the 50th anniversary coming up and the Vecna storyline being introduced to all campaigns. How would a piece of the rod of 7 parts get to Dark*Sun and how would a adventuring party from a different realm survive trying to recover the rod. Mr. Welch raised this question in his Mystara video. I suggested in the comments that you would know. Just about every Dark*Sun video I have seen always refers back to this video. The only thing I could think of was the Avangion. Since there has never been one before, it would make sense for the 50th anniversary that a Avangion would make an appearance. I find you to be a very intelligent and well spoken/ interesting crpg commentator and am in agreement about the shortcomings of NWN/ the infubity engine games also and in general, prefer turn based combat systems like Dark Sun Shattered Lands, Templeof Elemental Evil and Knights of the Chalice. Have you ever tried Toee or Kotc? Anyways NWN as well as the BG games still have quite complex and nuanced systems which I enjoy as well as well designed, difficult mods like SCS for BG and Swordflight for NWN. I think youd enjoy SF but I also think youd have to brush up on your NWN knowledge a bit. Many experienced crpg players and even experienced NWN players have a number of misconceptions regarding the game/building characters. For example, Spell Penetration feats are not useless but not really needed. The way Discipline works, if a knockdown bypasses your AC, its unlikely Discipline will save you there and is not a high priority for many power builders. A rogue should almost always have atleast 1 lvl in a warrior class to be able to use a shield. In general, "sword and board" is much better than dual wielding. Expertise feat can also be very helpful for a melee rogue. Id be interested to see you play Swordfllight chapter 1 some day.

53:08 traps: when I played BG2 with my wife I was a ftr/MU/thief. There were these hidden lichs across the map. Very tough. But use to stack traps on top of the other so it would one shot the lich. So you could use the. Offensively in the older games. This also worked with the Amn anti-magic police. We killed so many of them they specifically told us they were going to stop hunting us.

This show was too fucking good. I watched it for the first time in February 2023 and it still holds up impossibly well by today's excellent TV drama standards

Ever since the mid 80s I’ve run mythologised Japan and mythologised Greco-Roman setting and those campaigns have always been my players favourite. I usually do one of each every time editions change but otherwise tend to stick to a dying earth type setting (so weird but mostly medieval Europe). For anyone interested I published a 5e Oriental adventure book if someone wanted to play in a Kara-Tur setting. I think it’s the only complete conversion on dms guild.

The game was unfinished. Most of the spells listed in the manual were not obtainable; some were not even in the game files. Some spells just didn't do anything. There were character customizing features in the manual that did not exist in the game. The towns were empty. There is an elvish fort that you need to do a quest at a tower in a lake; that whole area did not exist. You were flat out unable to complete the game itself because of poor AI pathing. The story is adequate, but nothing special. The combat is stiff and clunky. The company put out a couple patches, then released Collector's Edition, a finished version of the original, then told the original buyers to "buy the game at full price, again, if we wanted the intended game experience". The "Collector's Edition" was also incompletable if you played the ogre race, because the new areas were not sized for them, so they could not progress. The forementioned tower on the lake quest being a notable example. The manual still listed spells and features not in the game, because they didn't even bother to change the manual to the "Collector's Edition". I bought this game at release. I was on the Heuristic forums after the fact, watching the developers sheer incompetence on full display, as well as their loathing for the people who bought their product. Every bit of hate this game received, it deserves.

Man, this is one of those games from the same era as Might and Magic 2 Gates to Another World - that I was kinda interested in would look longingly at the cover box at computer stores but never did pull the trigger on. Sega Port had spell names in game. Real quality of life improvement!

I remember the backstabs. Sooo fun when you get that random huge crit damage blast.

Played this on Sega, and it was awesome. Best RPG I’ve ever played in my book, just ahead of Elder Scrolls: Arena (very first elder scrolls). Fast forward decades and these old games are somehow still better than the new ones. Running a 4080 Super and my fave rpgs are from decades ago. Do any current games capture the old magic? Maybe Skyrim. Elder Scrolls online but not really. Path of Exile? All super sophisticated but not quite capturing the great gameplay of those oldies. When did game designers start to ditch the random number generator stats at character creation? It was just a row of numbers but even ‘rolling the dice’ repeatedly to get great stats was great fun - so simple, yet so satisfying when you get a good combination of stats. Means every character was unique in some way, not just cookie cutter identical base stats. And I still have the manual for the game on one of my bookshelves. That’s how much I dig it lol.

Bloodborne is a masterpiece. It’s the game that got me into Souls game and I haven’t looked back since. Gherman is a true tragic hero. Still want this on PC so it can be modded and it’s not locked to an obsolete system.

I actually played the Sega Saturn version of Bane (in Japanese). It was a little different in terms of game mechanics; for example, either the entire enemy party or your entire party attacks first in order, depending on the combat difficulty you chose. The Super Famicom version by contrast is much closer to the original while also fixing bugs and being more accessible, so it is the better console version in my opinion. Additionally, I thought that the Playstation version of Crusaders (in Japanese) was excellent as a standalone game. Most of the contents are exactly the same as the DOS version, except the game creators did make a few slight changes such as adding the Diamond Ring, Ring of Stars, Cameo Locket, and Fang which would be otherwise unobtainable (as there is no import option) through a well hidden chest in the Dane Tower and a hidden encounter with Bela.

Really not a fan of 3 or 4. I dislike them enough that I don’t count them in my head cannon - franchise story ended with NV (skipping F3).

Played this when it came out. Good game. Have to go back and play the DLC. I backed the various kickstarters for the game. These games along with New Vegas are the true heirs of the original Fallout games (1 and 2). Sounds like I picked the exact opposite decisions to you so interesting to see your play through. Edit: so I went and reloaded my save. I have no idea what’s going on but my melee guy looks like a tyranid; I have a two headed goat, a honey badger and a robotic toaster as pets (pretty good ones too!) and scotchmo (the old drunk) is dressed in chrome power armor. lol.

2:25:55 amiga was special as it was a better gaming machine than the pc at the time. It was basically a console - a custom built gaming rig. Due to its better architecture developers could build better games.

2:13:26 yes. March of the 10,000. I don’t see an issue with wearing armor so long as you got a break at night. Our ancestors were tougher than us.

I’m sure it’s a great game BUT way to archaic in terms of UI and QoL. Hopefully (one day) all these games will be rebuilt in modern engines 🤞 Yellow hit point bar is particularly distracting :)

Are any Japanese wizardry games as good as 6, 7 or 8? This seems inferior to 8 in terms of UI and other systems. And I think it doesn’t look as good as 7.
