A massive shout out to@benisrood for gifting me this game! I've never played any game in this series before. I enjoy the Yakuza setting but sometimes have trouble in the GTA-styled sandbox type games. I never seem to have fun just finding something to mess around with in between missions (a major part of the fun I'm told.) Warning that this video is mostly cutscenes introducing the game with only a few parts I'm playing on my own. I understand that may not be that thrilling to watch (sorry!) But I do talk about some of my favorite Yakuza movies of the 70s if you're into that. Let me know if you are a fan of the Yakuza games or the Battles Without Honor and Humanity Series! (and if a more Battles Without Honor type Yakuza game would be something you like!)

A old japanese movie called "Onibaba", which got me into more sophisticated movies, back then, when i was about 15years old.

Yup, "Yakuza" for the PS2 is yet another game in my collection on my "I'll get around to it one day" list...

If you want a Yakuza game set in the Bubble, Yakuza 0 is a very good starting point.

Michael, you might enjoy the nonfiction books _Lost Japan_ and _Dogs & Demons_ by Alex Kerr. They are both enjoyable reads and very interesting for understanding more about Japan culturally.

So one thing to keep in mind about the Yakuza series is that the main plot lines are played completely straight, but the side quests and side activities are usually very silly.

_Sonatine_ ("Shonatine") has the greatest movie trailer of all time.
I have to say, though, that my favourite Kitano movie by far is _Hana-Bi._ I really think that's his masterpiece.
'Beat' Takeshi movies all have great soundtracks by the famous Joe Hisashi.

1:50 anyone wanting to get a great image of the dirty and violent world of broken Japan of the immediate postwar years should check out the film _Drunken Angel_ (1948) by, yes, Kurosawa.

Re: Japanese theatre, AFAIK for both of the two main traditional forms, Nōh and Kabuki, all actors for all parts were exclusively played by men.

Were played and *are* played still, for the most part.

_Nani!_ How could you play in _ENGRISH DUB?_
Hang your head in shame, Michael-san!

I’m sorry, I forgot how much of this would just be a gigantic cutscene... If I find another game to send you it will be more Lo-fi and gameplay heavy. Ever played Caves of Qud?

I've heard about it but never played it. It looks interesting though!
