Why You're Wrong About Revelations

In the lead-up to Black Ops III's final zombies map, the hype was the highest the series has ever seen, before or since. Almost any map would have trouble measuring up to those expectations, and it didn't help that this was a different kind of finale than we'd seen before. Instead of ending with a massive bang and giving us something we'd never seen anything like before, like Moon or Origins, Revelations explicitly almost *only* gave us things we *had* seen. But in my opinion, what they did with adding *depth* to that nostalgia was transformative, and that allows it to stand on its own as a great map in the context of the series.
"A Zombies Retrospective" is a series in which I play through each Call of Duty Treyarch Zombies map chronologically, and analyze its place in the series.

    I think it's fair to call the quests from Der Riese to the Victis Black Ops 2 maps easter eggs but once they become so front and center from Mob and Origins onwards I don't think that label really applies.

    turn to Jesus Christ he loves all of us more than anything and he literally died for us. He took in the punishment for our sins thru on the cross. It wasn’t cuz we deserved it, but cuz he loved us. 1 John 4:10 “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins” it was thru his love that he died for us and we can be forgiven

    I think the biggest issue with Die Rise is that it was made before the engine could do verticality that well. Black Ops 2 and all the games before it were not built with platforming in mind, which means the maps that feature platforming heavily were going to suffer by the nature of the game they were in. If Die Rise was released in Black Ops 3 or even 4, where platforming became a more core part of the gameplay, Die Rise would not play nearly as uncomfortably as it does it Black Ops 2.

    11:55 Bro I’m just saying, there is almost nobody who played origins the first few times and actually built the staffs without looking it up. Finding the records in particular was probably the hardest thing. Basically every one has like 1 obvious spot, 1 kinda obvious spot, and 1 out of the way spot. Seriously the only way that was happening is if someone decided to keep a crawler for 30 minutes while they searched for everything. The whole “the records are all on the other side of the map from the tunnel that it marks” was such a weird design choice to me, and probably the biggest thing that made it frustrating. (I remember thinking the fire record just HAD to be around gen 3 and the tun I also distinctly remember my first few times playing the game having fits looking for the main gramophone record, or getting the ice staff before round 15-20 because nobody understood to keep the zombie only on snow. Also yea obviously you have to shoot a ducking glowing plane to get the last piece of what to that point, was the most straightforward staff to get. (everybody else had to be told or look up a vid for that too right?) I appreciate that they at least made PaP pretty straightforward. I thought the power system was the coolest thing about the map when I first played and really appreciated how not convoluted it was to turn on the power for everything without needing a guide, especially compared to tranzit/MOD. Blops 2 also understood that if you don’t have a staff by round 8 you should still be able to kill the panzer with guns. Meanwhile blops 3 is literally just death without a staff or ray gun. Sorry I’m rambling now it’s a good map but god damn it is one of the least noob friendly maps I’d ever played. Seriously I think people really forget that if you played origins for the first time without a video you were unbelievably out of your element. Even the map itself is crazy big and hard to get a feel for when u play it for the first time. It’s the first map where stamin up is basically needed because you are 100% going down in the mud without it once u pass round 13. It’s a map that has the biggest environmental threat to the player since the falls of die rise. (Seriously don’t underestimate how many people get fucked by the robots at first, because the natural training spots were the robots foot spots which again would slow you terribly without stamin up.). Every trip to the crazy place was soooo hard at first because the wall rng is brutal if u don’t know the general layout. Still great map tho. Just seriously brutal to noobs in a way I think people forgot with age.

    People that say revelations is underwhelming because it's just a bunch of old maps is lazy criticism, the map is well designed in my opinion. I think from the way they built it up, this map needed more in terms of weaponry. They should have made the box weapons a mix from all WaW guns to bo3. They should have introduced a new buildable wonder weapon, potentially apothicon style, there should have been an upgradeable specialist and maybe even a side quest for the tactical grenade. Leave the thundergun in the box for sure, but apart from that remove the apothicon servant (should've been upgradeable in SoE anyway), arnies and DG4. And give us a new buildable wonder weapon, potentially with elemental upgrades but definitely not a necessity. The fact with 1 immolation gobblegum you can be completely set up on any round is so boring when compared to the sense of achievement you get in the rest of the black ops 3 maps for being set up. While gorod had a box wonder weapon, the specialist and dragon strike controller were enough to make it feel like you earned the set up

    I will always see Moon as a great map. BO1 is my all time favourite COD. Back then (and now in retrospect) we kinda knew we would never have it as good as BO1 had been. Moon had it all. Massive EE, fun wonder weapon, one of the best pieces of utility with the hacker, unique challenges with the spawn room records and the grand scale of going between Area 51 and the Moon. I remember doing the easter egg and seeing the rockets blast off towards the Earth. One of my friends even joked about disconnecting and crashing the game because he was the host. I went crazy and basically begged him not to because we worked so hard to get that sweet 100G. I'm really enjoying your zombies essays. You definitely got a new subscriber.

    @AjeetSingh-xq4yb Před 6 dny

    Shang always came across as an odd map. Poor training spots, forced 4 player easter egg and tight areas that you could easily get caught in. However the aesthetics, zombies variety, simple (not convoluted as it became) time travel and a fun easter egg (not the 4 players aspect), made it one of my favourite maps.
